I have done both.
I also enjoyed both..but I think it would depend more on what you are looking for.
Hoop is fun and they are mostly on a stage performing. It does get interacive..and it is fun. It is indoors, air conditioned, and the food is served at your table.
BBQ- is very interactive. You have a chance to get out and kick up your feet.. The characters - Mick,Min, Chip,Dale & Goofy are there. They come out and walk around for pics and dancing. There is a show done where its country based fun. They also have a gentleman who teaches rope tricks/show. It is outside in a pavilion with fans above ( wasnt bad in late august heat), and you are called by picnic table sections to the buffet area.
We enjoyed both. I would say that if you want to get a chance to dance and meet characters..do the bbq. If you would like more of a show with food served atmosphere..then Hoop.
I dont think you can go wrong either way.
These are my kids at the BBQ..you can sorta see behind them. Ill see if I can find a better pic.
WE love the HDDR. I went 2 years ago with DGD & DGS, they were 3 and 5 and they loved it. The laughed and enjoyed the show and the food.
We (all adults) are going again on our next trip
