Mickey's Backyard BBQ in August---bad idea?

We're looking for a kid-friendly dinner experience for a 2 and 7-year old during a WDW visit this August. (Just to be clear--neither Household 6 nor I picked the date. ) We'll also have two elderly grandparents with us.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ looks good at first glance, but I'm concerned it will be all-fired hot and humid on an August evening...so hot that it won't make for a nice evening. I'm also concerned about the crowds. Is this show normally packed?

I'd appreciate advice from folks who've been there in the past, especially in the summer. Thanks

We went in the summer, beginning of July one year, and DH said that he wouldn't want to do it in the summer again. It was hot, and it was crowded. Crowded wasn't bad, but the heat was.

We went in May, on a very hot day. We were miserable. It really is a great time and worth experiencing, but the heat made it not very enjoyable. I would definitely do it again in cooler weather.

We briefly considered it for our August trip, but decided against it because of the weather. It sounds like a lot of fun, but not in the heat, IMHO.

Hoop Dee Doo is air-conditioned and really a lot of fun for all ages. It used to be just a few dollars more than Mickey's BBQ, but I don't know current pricing.

We went about 6 years ago in September and were pretty miserable. Don't know if the setup has changed any but it was held in an open-air shelter. I believe there were fans but no air conditioning. The heat and humidity really put a damper on things.

The BBQ has good food and is a neat idea, but the Florida climate just doesn't cooperate most of the time.

Your thread may get moved to dining... but when I went some years ago I was rather unhappy with two things... wonder and hoping they improved:

1) food quality was very low for the price - steamer-reheated burgers and hot dogs and ribs.. deli salads... I got a lot of laughs in the food line when I said this was the most expensive hot dog I ever ate.
2) Character appearances were a free for all in which aggressive children got to the characters and non-aggressive ones did not. They did not visit all guests in an orderly fashion at all.
