Mickey statues on tour--How are they in other cities?

I went to see the Mickey statues in Boston the other day, and there were only 13 statues out. We walked around a couple of times, and couldn't find the last two statues. I sent an e-mail to the management company that runs Faneuil Hall, and was told that two of the statues had to be sent out for repair after being damaged overnight. It's really too bad that some people aren't showing more respect for the statues.

The statues are definitely showing some signs of abuse. The paint was chipped and scuffed. One of the statues had a chip of paint larger than a quarter chipped off of them. A few of the statues were roped off, but most of them were out in the open. I lost count of how many kids were climbing all over them--and I'm not just talking about stepping on the base, I'm talking climbing on the arms and sitting on them, climbing up the back, and leaning over the head.

For those of you with the statues in your cities, how are they set up? Are they roped off or out in the open? Are they showing any signs of abuse?

They are still great to see though :) I'll be going with a big group of DISers on June 13th (yay Jerry aka :goodvibes ). I'm sure I'll visit them many times again before they go, though.

People in general don't know how to act let along when you get in the city of Boston, I am suprised that the staues wern't stolen from the spots they were put it in :D

That's why I'm glad we got to see them at Disney in December. At least at WDW you know the people appreciate them and won't abuse them.

Sorry, but I beg to differ. When we saw the Statues in WDW in January I couldn't believe the number of people/kids climbing over/under the ropes and touching/climbing on the statues. I was horrified! And of course, my kids were disappointed because they saw people doing this and I wouldn't let them do it!.....P

We have some on display in Chicago as well. I think it was the first night where someone tore off Mickey's nose and left a huge hole (about 10 in. diameter) in Mickey's face. If I remember correctly though, they did catch the guy who did it.

I can't believe people can't leave them alone for all to enjoy. :(

When we saw them in Dec at WDW, they had a couple of security guards near them. Not enough for the folks that had to get on them. The ones by the train station were watched much better than the ones down by the lake. Some folks would just get by them for a pic and maybe put an arm around them. Unfortantely just putting an arm around them over time damages them.

I really wish they could have been left at Magic Kingdom. I really enjoyed them and when I saw them in December I did not see any damage to any of them.

With all the damage they are getting, how are they ever going to be able to auction them as planed?
