Mickey Mouse Rice Krispy Treats now contain milk?

Can someone confirm or deny that the plain (not chocolate dipped) mickey head rice krispy treats on a stick now contain dairy? I just got an email back from special diets, and I'm not saying I don't trust it, lol... I guess I'm still in denial.

Before I email her back I just wanted to have a little info in my pocket.

I don't know who manufactures the Mickey Rice Krispy bars (Kelloggs, WDW, or a different company), but I can tell you that the Rice Krispy bars made by Kelloggs that you can buy in boxes in the grocery store contain milk and soy products according to the label. Since this is the case, its possible the Mickey Rice Krispy bars also contain milk product.

I mean, we'll certainly get over it and move on if this truly is the case... just have to deal with our disappointment if it is. I don't want to question the helpful lady at Special Diets, kwim?

Especially since there are chocolate dipped and non-chocolate dipped. She may have given you the information on one kind and the other may be different.

Got a response today. At least according to Mary Jo at Special Diets... both versions of the rice krispy treats contain milk. I'm still in denial, lol. I'm hoping to be nicely surprised when I get there. My DD is very accepting, but I'm sad I have to give her the news.

I emailed her again. (part of me is still in disbelief and is being cynical I'm a tiny bit ashamed to admit) I did have an honest to goodness question about the Boca burgers that she failed to answer before. Just knowing that they are Boca wasn't exactly what I meant by "Can you tell me more about the patty, the ingredients and where I can find it."

Anyways, I just mentioned how sad we were that my DD wouldn't be able to enjoy the rice krispy treats this trip like she has on previous trips now that they contain milk. (JIC on the slight chance she's still confusing the ingredients)

I miss Brenda.

Personally I do not see where the milk gets into the rice crispies treat and nobody has reported problems with them. I think you better demand to know where the dairy comes from as it is nto a normal ingredient in them. At least you have WDW as we in DLR haev nobody to bake us special cakes and I have never found out what foods are soy free and no word on any shops at all. Fudge is is soy free, they wont tell me, have to ask in person.

The Kelloggs Rice Krispies Treats that you can buy in the supermarket have artificial butter flavoring in them and that's where the milk is...it's possible the ones at WDW contain this too now. That's a shame! It's not the same, but you could make some at home for a pre-trip fun treat. We've made them in Mickey shapes before and they are pretty cute (and dairy free).

I think they always have. DS has a severe dairy allergy. We've been dealing with Brenda Bennett and disney dining since about 2004 (when he was really young we didn't bother). I don't every remember rice crispy treats being a safe food. He definitely hasn't been on the safe list since April/May 2007.

They have a bunch of other cookies/brownies that are good though.

Thinking about it and having made Rice Krispies Treats.....................

They are made from
1/4 cup butter or margarine
6 - 10 ozs. regular marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies

according to a recipe I found on line that said it was copied from the Rice Krispies box.
I have a box of premade Rice Krispies treats. It lists "artificial and natural butter flavors (contains milk)" specifically for those items. The ingredient list actually is quite nice because it tells what each ingredient is for and what it contains if it is made from something else. It sounds like the flavors were probably always there, but may not have been listed as "contains milk". Since it's the flavors, for some people, the milk in there may not be a problem, depending on exactly what part of milk their allergy is to.

The ones you get in the boxes have the following ingredients:

INGREDIENTS:
Toasted rice cereal (rice, sugar, salt, high fructose corn syrup, malt flavoring, niacinamide, reduced iron, riboflavin [vitamin B2], folic acid), marshmallow (corn syrup, sugar, gelatin, artificial flavor), fructose, margarine (vegetable oil [ canola and/or sunflower oil, partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, TBHQ and mixed tocopherols for freshness], water, natural and artificial butter flavor [contains milk], datem, acetylated monoglycerides, BHT [preservative], vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D), corn syrup solids, contains two percent of less of dextrose, glycerin, salt, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), thiamin hydrochloride (vitamin B1), soy lecithin.
Contains Milk and Soy ingredients.

Non Kosher.

They normally list any wheat in their products but this is definitely not for soy or corn free diets. I gave up on the Evironmental groups bars because of soy.

In 2005 and 2007, the plain, non dipped in chocolate, mickey mouse head shaped rice krispy treats on a stick did not contain milk. They used a milk free margarine. I am very aware that the Rice Krispy Brand treats contain milk... but there are milk free margarines, kwim? I clearly remember the parentheses by the margarine ingredient. Anyways, it doesn't really matter now. Mary Jo, who apparently either reads the boards or picked up on my complete denial about the rice krispy treats sent me a photocopied image of the ingredients. It makes me wish I still had an old treat, lol... just to compare for curiousity sake. It is interesting to note that this treat still uses milk-free margarine, but the ingredients contain nonfat dry milk and cultured nonfat dry milk. It is further interesting that Mary Jo mentioned a star shaped milk free one.... I know it was mickey's head on a stick. But, I've got my closure, no longer in denial. I greatly appreciate Mary Jo sending me the photocopy. Off to pout now

I was also disappointed when I heard they have milk. Brenda told me that they had trouble keeping the old ones properly stocked so they had to change suppliers (I think she said maybe a year or two ago) and that the current supplier doesn't provide a dairy free one. Sigh!!

I don't know if it's still a problem or not, but when we were at WDW at the very end of February, the frozen bananas were recalled due to the peanuts and were therefore unavailable. This happened around half way into our trip and my daughter ended up in tears. She doesn't like strawberries and she's allergic to citrus fruits so this is all she could have at the vender carts (the strawberry and multi-coloured popsicle type treats are dairy free but just don't work for us).

My friend just dropped off a sack full of the treats ( non chocolate) that he bought last week at DW and I have just checked the label. They are made by Selma's Cookies and the number for them is (407) 884-9433. The ingredient label list nonfat dry milk and cultured nonfat dry milk. They seem to be listed as the ingredients in the margarine and also listed as having less than 2 % of each. I hope this may help you some. Also they have the allergy warning that states it contains milk and soy and is manufactured in a facility which handles peanuts and tree nuts. I'll keep the label for a few days just in case you need more info.
