We are doing our whole back yard over, since we tore it all up last summer and got a pool. I will be working that into it somehow...if I can convince DH. Thanks for the great idea!
That is just so awesome and the perfect way to compliment my Mickey house - that will really give the neighbors something to talk about - hope you don't mind if we borrow your idea!
Thanks again for the kinds words...just a few hints for those wanting their own mickey berm.
Start with the edgers and form it in...I started with the dirt and mulch after outlining the shape with the ol' garden hose (of course, that's where I thought it would stop-dirt and mulch) and then we found the edgers. The edger actually has an "L" shape to it when viewed from the end of the stone. They make a straight stone and a curved stone. We used all curved for ours - I believe it took 29 and tha includes one I cut to finish out the top of the head. We found the rope lighting at Target for $9.99 for 18 feet. You can't cut it to size so I had to use 54 feet of rope lighting for 41 feet three inches of stone. The rope lighting is doubled on the "inside" portions of the ears and the top of the head because of the overage.
I have found a company that will cut commercial grade rope lighting to any length (in 18 inch increments) and am in the process of ordering the red and green for Christmas. The lighting we bought at Target is safe for indoor and outdoor use and can be linked together without problem. We've had rain here off and on this week and it's done fine. I just have to remember to disconnect the electrical cord when I mow the grass...
Is that COOL or WHAT?!?! My neighbors already think I'm nuts because of Disney....that would really give em something to talk about!!! Thanks for sharing!
That is too neat! I would love to do that, but our neighborhood is too strict. There's technically nothing in the bylaws that says no Mickey heads in the lawn, but I think I'd get fined anyway.
Kermit - sounds like you live in the next town over from me! They don't allow colored lights on Main Street during the Christmas holidays!! People who own on Main Street must use white lights only!! Annmarie
