I really wanted to make a lamp for our trip in 2 weeks. I have been looking for months for the globes, where does everyone get them? I would rather get plastic or I guess acrylic, as I would hate for them to break in travel? I think I have looked everywhere. TIA

I just ordered mine from Amazon. Do a search for "white acrylic globe". Make sure the 6"ers and the 12"er are from the same manufacturer so the whites match. Mine came to $32 after shipping. I'll post again in a few days to relate my experience with them.

We got ours about a month ago at Home Depot. The two small ones were like 10 each and the big one with the wires was 27. I think all together my hubby said we spent about 50 on all three plus bulbs and calk. For the large globe (acrylic) we fount it by the outdoor lamp posts and cam in a box. The smaller ones were over by the replacement globes for ceiling fans. I hope this helps.

I also got mine at homedepot they have them by the interior lighting i had to look a little they were at the end of a split in the isle but they had plenty of the large one's my home depot has the large one's 2 different ways as just a globe then they make one that is pre wired look on www.homedepot.com and you can find a item number and have your local store see if they have one

Just for jollies, I thought I'd share what I intend to do with my acrylic globes:

Oh, and the pot/base will be full of seasonal plants -- poinsettias I guess for this trip. Hopefully, I will get to do another as Minnie, with arms that hold out seasonal flags... but, that's a later post.

That's awesome. Did you make the plaques yourself or have them designed? I'm not creative--you certainly seem to be. I'm really looking forward to seeing the decorations. We were in 300 last year and they were great. We're planning to look at other loops this time. I'm counting the days

I designed them myself... have yet to make them. But soon! Haven't really finished designing them, not quite sure if I will try to do relief carving or not. I will get to the plaques after I assemble my light pole. I will post pics as I go, so stay tuned, y'all!

I found this very cute, 6' tall pre-made Mickey Lamp Post at JCPenney's online. Really nice, but a bit pricey for me. Maybe someone else can enjoy one? Also, not sure if it is indoor use only.

We bought all of our stuff at home Depot. They had the globe for the head already wired for light. Thy sell a post for it but, we thought that the price was to high so we used PVC and painted it black. The only problem was that the base of the globe would not tighten down all the way on the PVC ( size of the post was a smidge to small). the base has 3 screws to secure it to the post and I just bought one of the same diameter and thread but longer and it works great.

Mike, I have a way to fix that so you can take the "head on and off" I have instructions on my site on how to do it. I used PVC too, and I screwed the head to a rubber "fernco" and then it slides on and off the post to travel, and it works really well.

John, I'm just wondering how that small of a base works for ya. It seems like any decent wind would create enough load to pull the pegs and induce lean. I'm thinking about a large plastic flower pot filled with water bags to weight it. But if yours works well, this may be overkill. I do like the idea of filling the pot with poinsettias, though. Thanks for the work that went into publishing your plans!

Shan, I have made 5 of these things, I kept 2 and sold the others, I haven't heard about any problems. The 2 I had set up at disney went through 2 nice thunderstorms, and no problems, even in the sandy soil. I drive the spikes in at 4 different angles. But I did have a problem with one when we went camping this summer, the ground was really hard and when I was trying to pull the spikes out, I cracked the base. So, before the next trip I am going to figure out a better way to do that. I just really like that I can take it all apart and it is really small to keep in camper, I didn't do the pots because they take up so much space. Before the next trip, I am going to redo my pics with my new camera, and show my modifications.

The fernco is my best idea, IMHO, it makes it so the head can be taken off and stored under the bed in my TT, and the post can just be tossed in the back of the truck.

If anyone has questions just ask me, I live for this stuff....:)

thanks John, I bought an extension cord that I hard wired to the light. Unfortunately, the way that I did it would not be condusive to removing the whole head. Now the cord runs down the post to a small notch that I put in the post at the base and still have around 20 ft of cord. As it is, I loosen the two screws holding the globe to the base to remove it to travel with it that way. I don't think I will take the time t rehab this one but, I will probably do the next one like yours to give it a try.

I bought one of John's Mickey lamps in March and its still going strong!! In fact we had it illuminating our campsite at Lake Bastrop this weekend.

We have changed the base and use a cheap metal parasol umbrella stand which works quite nicely!

Bx, I haven't seen you in quite a while, how are you doing? Glad to hear the lamp is still going strong!!! Come and play with us some time would ya, we miss ya!

Before buying my globes I measured a Mickey chip-n-dip set we bought at the Disney Home Store that used to be at DTD and the proportions were closest matched to the 8" and 12" globes. When they arrived I put the three globes in the corresponding dishes and marked the centerlines for the ears and the proportions worked out nearly perfect.
