Mickey Lamp Post?

I saw a few as well. One of those who had one said they picked it up at Walmart.

When I prepped to go to FW this past weekend, for some reason I found the box my lightbulb was supposed to be in, but not the bulb. I spent many hours looking for a replacement & NOBODY carries them in the stores. The only thing I can do now is to buy one on e-bay.

I like the bases but I want to know about the color changing bulbs we saw last year in the Mickey head lights.:confused3

I've seen them at either Lowe's or HD in the LED lamp area in the same isle directly across from the regular bulbs. Just ask an employee about the LED bulbs that go into a regular bulb socket. My local HD carries the CFLs in orange (for halloween) and the red, green and yellow along with a black light one.

I used a 12" for the main head and 8" for the ears. It looks more propotionate that way, IMHO.

I agree :( I wish I had paid more attention to proportion while making it. I'll probably redo it...once we're finished with the other 11 dozen projects that are in the works :rotfl:

We also use a 5 gal. bucket that we fill at the campsite. Our Mickey head comes off and lies safe on the trailer floor. The post and bucket travel in the bed of the truck. My DH cut a square toilet flange to fit the circle of the bucket. He also put a light sensor on the pole so we don't have to turn it off and on.

That's a great idea! I wonder how hard it would be to add that to the lamp now?

Cindy your base looks like Pooh's Honey Pot!

I didn't notice that until you mentioned it but it does! I remember seeing a really cute Pooh lamp post on here awhile back, that pot would have been perfect for one.

That's what I used since some I saw sort of looked funny at least to me. I even measured several pics of mickey heads on some websites and measured not only the diameter of the head and ears, but even the angle of the ears to the vertical diameter of the head and smallest horziontal distance between to two ears to approximate where the ears should go on the head. Finally before cutting anything I tied some string about the base of each ear and carefully put them on the head to see how the placement looked. Below are pics of my Mickey head in it's halloween and Xmas mode. These are my lampost at home since I made a second head for the house.

This Xmas I might use a green vs. the white in the Xmas mode since the white is sort of bright since I have a 13W CFL in both the head and each ear. Even with the isolation of the base of the ears to the head, just the light from the head sort of washes out the red at the base of each ear when you see it in person. The pic looks better than seeing it in person.

Looks good. I use an orange light for halloween too, but I drape a sheet over it to make it look like the ghosts from MNSSHP.

For x-mas, I just run some lights up the pole for a festive feel.

I just recently started using a green light in mine for normal use. DOesnt put out a blinding light like the white does but creats a nice glow you can see with. Plus it represents the DIS.

My post is made from half of a 10' piece of 4" black PVC. I cut my base from a piece of 3/4" plywood and painted with several coats to make it weatherproof. I originally secured an upside down toilet flange with wood screws, but later replaced the screws with bolts all the way through the base. I rounded the corners and eased the top edges with a 1/2" roundover bit in a router (before painting). We have never had a problem with "blow-overs". The globe is held on with three thumb screws and comes off to ride in a cardboard box, just big enough to hold it snuggly. I have most of the parts for a second lamp, but I have to get me one of those round "tuits" first.

We have such a small RV that we put ours in a Christmas Tree Stand that we spraypainted black to match the pole/light set we bought from Home Depot. Light and portable.

I got my color changing bulb off ebay. I have looked at multiple HDs and have never seen one.

I really want to Thank everyone for their suggestions, etc. I appreciate it very much!!! Now, all I have to do is decide, and that has not been easy. :confused3

Everyones lamps and posts look so good.... I like how ya'll dressed them up for the holidays. I have no mind when it comes to doing stuff like that. :lmao:
I really like the one that looks like the ghost for Halloween.

Well I finally finished our lamp post thanks to all the instructions and tips from you guys on here. We took it on a test run on our trip last weekend. We will be at the Fort on Sept 29th, can't wait to set it up there. I used a cast iron umbrella base from Lowes, it's heavy enough the post rides standing up inside the camper with no problems, although I did have to cut the post off and redrill the hole for my cord so it would fit. I just used 2" schedule 40 pipe and couplings to shim up the post to the to umbrella mount. As you can see in the pics the DW loves her post, lol.

My son wrapped the post with some flicker lights the DW had bought.

Your lamp looks very good!

I finally got mine!!! I can not wait until I can use it in 2 weeks!!

Looks awesome, DW and I are working on ours, thank you to all who have posted ideas and pictures! It is a big help.....

Your right sinceday1, without all the tips and info from everyone on here we could have never built ours, Can't wait to set it out when we get there. 9 more days, and we can't wait. We are bringing a friend who has never been to Disney before. She's gonna fall in love with the fort.

we had a windy day last year in the middle of our trip and my lamp post fell over the 2 small globes are fine the large one didn't make it though we have been looking for a replacement i was told that homedepot no longer carries the globe and couldn't find one in lowes either called several electrical supply places no one has but most can order they say just measure it and we will see what we can do oh yeah and will take several weeks to get in sobe carefull with the globes I found a larger globe but it was expensive 50.00 and was a 16" so my ears will look a little small compared to the 12" globe i had wish me luck:confused3

I have also had trouble finding a 12" globe localy. Home Depo lists one on thier website that you can order.
I founs an industrial supplier that has a 36" globe and 22" globes but DW won't let me buy them:confused3 Maybe it's the $1,000 cost for the three:rotfl2:
Anyway here is my light I finnished last night using a globe I had.

I found the globe online with Home Depo it is $18.49 but shipping is almost $10:scared1: and the store can't order it:confused3

You don't want to hear what they want to ship it to Canada! :scared1:

I have always found them in stock (all the parts) at the Home Depot at 7423 Southland Blvd., Orlando, FL 32809 (407) 859-3500 (near the Florida Mall)

If the $10.00 shipping is too much, just drive to Orlando and pick them up! :rolleyes1
