Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas DVD will be released Nov. 9th. 2004. Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas is a follow-up to Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, 1999. Last time there were three shorts each running about 20 minutes. This time, there are five. Twice Upon a Christmas marks the debut of these characters in 3-D computer animation. But I have mixed emotions about this.
Two different computer animation production companies worked on animation for this DisneyToon Studios feature. This is huge because with the end of Pixar's contract running out Disney is trying to survive without them. Now I'm a huge fan of Pixar, and I truly wish they would stay with Disney. You can see Disney is stepping out into the CGI world independent of Pixar in Chicken Little, which looks great. I was also impressed with the Philharmagic 3-D show in WDW. I'm very glad Disney is adapting to the times. They have to in order to survive in the 21st. century. But on the other hand Mickey's medium change IMHO is the beginning of the end. It's really fun to see these characters in 3-D, it's progress, but with that step you have killed the last of the "Frank and Ollie's" of Walt's and our day - hand-drawn animation/2-D animators.
Well that's my two cents. What do you think?
