It will be my BF's bday while we visit. I am sure the $45 cake add on at Wine Country will be too much for us to share.
Has anyone done anything else to celebrate an adult bday -special desserts ? What location?
He isn't that much into chocolate but loves ice cream!

We had Ghardellis last time at DCA.
THANKS!

ps-I do know about the bday button !

for some of the character melas they will bring you a cup cake with a candle and sing happy Birthday to you .

At Carthay they bring a cake for you with a candle. It's small, but enough for one person. So just let them know it is both of your birthdays and they should bring you each one.

Also I think it was complimentary, I don't remember seeing it on the bill. So that can be a money saver too.

You could always share a Clarabelle’s Kitchen Sink sundae at Clarabelle’s if he likes ice cream. It comes in a cute container/keepsake, too.

We just saw the cake for the first time, and were glad we didn't order it. It wasn't huge, but it didn't look fantastic. I have always gotten a free small dessert on my birthday at Disneyland.

Carnation Cafe does a chocolate cupcake, Cafe Orleans does a single beignet, and Lamplight Lounge doesn't do anything special. Those are just the ones I've tried.

A shake at Black Tap might be fun. A few have cake slices on them and one is definitely enough to share.

Agree that a Crazy Shake at Black Tap might be just the thing. Also, Salt & Straw is very generous with their ice cream samples. Spend some time trying all their flavors before deciding which one you like best! Maybe served with a cupcake from Sprinkles across the way? Maybe try a Dole Whip with rum at the DLH? I think you can get this at the Coffee House and at Tangaroa Terrace. There is a Cold Stone Creamery across from the parks on Harbor, if your BF likes mix-in ice cream.

Thank you so much! I am leaning towards the Black Tap shake- I see it on the insta acct for Disneyhungry and my mouth waters at the sight of them!

Maybe try a Dole Whip with rum at the DLH? WHAT?? Awesome!! never knew- that is what I love about this board!!

No need to pay for a cake. When we were there in 2012 it was DH birthday, we were at Ariels Grotto Princess lunch with our daughters , We told the server it was his birthday and they brought out a decorated brownie with a candle for DH Birthday.

No. I don’t have the will power to fight through threads but the short answer is that my family got caught in the middle between the switch of being able to order personalized cakes and these generic cakes. The generic cake looks like the ghost of Mickey.

I will never pay for a cake again. Last week I took a friend (who had just returned from a year deployment to Afghanistan) and his family of six people to Disneyland, and it happened to be one of the middle daughters' birthdays. As a surprise, when I made the online reservation for Wine Country Trattoria, I also ordered two cakes--one milk chocolate and one dark chocolate.

When I checked in, the hostess said there was a shortage of cakes available and all they had was white chocolate, and was that okay? Well, it wasn't really but at that point what was I going to do so I said okay.

Then later, about when our entrees were finished up, a manager came over to tell me they were completely out of cakes. As a goodwill gesture (which we appreciated) she did comp us a tiramisu and three bowls of ice cream.

But I still don't understand how, when you reserve cakes in advance, they can run out. It was my first and last attempt at using that service, because it turned out to be much more of a hassle than anything special.

Did you tell Disney about this, either at Chamber of Commerce on the day or afterward by sending in a comment (use the Contact Us link on the DLR website)? If you haven't already done so, send in a comment now. Be calm and as detailed as you can be about date, time, location, reservation confirmation number (if you still have it; otherwise, date, time, and name should work), and exactly what went wrong and how it affected your visit. Disney needs to know about this so that management can fix whatever issues are not working. Because clearly, something isn't working and can be fixed.
