Mickey Bars in Bed & Dole Whips for Lunch - Nov 15 Dining Report - Complete!

That morning we headed to Magic Kingdom. We rope-dropped and headed straight for Peter Pan. I had not yet seen the new queue so I was excited to wait standby for this one.

We had an 11:30 AM lunch reservation for Be Our Guest. I have eaten dinner here twice and lunch once. Justin really enjoyed Be Our Guest for lunch so he requested it again - he loves the ham and cheese sandwich there.

We got in line about 15 minutes early to check in. It was crazy long already.

23198192790_edc2050225_z.jpg

And once we got to the front, we were told to come back at 11:25 because they would only take us 5 minutes prior to our check in time. So I think we popped into Gaston's to look around and get a few PP pics.

I love this pic! Haha.

23197955980_c295759bb4_z.jpg

SIDE NOTE: I am wearing Skechers Go Walks in the pic above. I have been eyeing up these shoes for a while and I bought them on Amazon. They have the Goga Mat cushion and they are the MOST COMFORTABLE SHOES EVER. And I think they're cute, too! 8 days of vacation and my feet did not really hurt at all.

So back to the line we went, to check in.. CM's were walking up and down the line just making sure that those with strollers knew where to park them, and that everyone had an ADR. The CM let everyone know that this restaurant was only taking those with ADR's that day. So of course someone says "You don't need a reservation for lunch though.." and the CM said "Today we are only serving those with a reservation." and the woman was bewildered that she could not eat at BOG. She said "I must have been misinformed, so there's no way I can eat here?" No lady, there is not! Lol. I felt bad because her kids wanted to eat there but nothing you can do I suppose.

We pre-ordered our meal and we did not wait long at all. The ballroom was pretty busy but I really like the Music Box room so I asked Justin if we could sit in there.

Justin loves the Croque Monsieur sandwich and I liked the taste I had of his last time. We decided to each get our own because he didn't want to share.

23493732875_052bcf0808_z.jpg

Croque Monsieur - Grilled sandwich of carved ham, Gruyere cheese, and bechamel with Pommes Frites $11.49

Justin's sandwich looked very similar so no pic there. I was really torn on what to get and I had heard the soup was great so we decided to share a bowl of French Onion soup.

22866569283_985b43dcc7_z.jpg

French Onion Soup - $5.49 (You can use a snack credit on this)

We also ordered a soft drink and I just had ice water to drink.

So, the verdict? We weren't blown away by lunch this time. Last time, we were really looking forward to it and it did not disappoint. I had the roast beef sandwich and Justin had the croque monsieur, and we loved both. So this time Justin really wanted to eat here again and we were looking forward to it.

Justin thought we got more fries this time. The fries were really chewy, not hot and crispy. The sandwiches were lukewarm at best and honestly it seemed like the quality of the sandwich had decreased since our previous visit in June. Neither one of us were impressed with the sandwiches or the fries and we both thought they tasted like they sat under a heat lamp. We rated these a 3 because it's still a great QS option.

The French Onion soup was really delicious! We'll definitely get this again if we come back. Hot with lots of thick cheese, not too salty either. We rated this a 4.

Overall we weren't too impressed with BOG this time and we think we'll skip it on our next visit. We also had breakfast booked at BOG for our last day of our trip.

On the way out we snapped a few pictures of the restaurant all decorated for Christmas.

With the Christmas parade taping that afternoon, the hub area at MK was packed so we tended to stay away from there. We did stop up front and watch some of the scenes being shot though, it was pretty cool! Seal was singing when we were there.

I wasn't feeling 100%, I'm not sure if I was tired or queasy from riding too much (my stomach cannot handle those rides anymore).. so we took it easy and went on Buzz.

Now any time Justin and I ride Buzz or Toy Story Midway Mania, he wins by thousands and thousands of points. I was seriously not even trying that day because I just did not feel great, but I scored a target on the ceiling (having no clue that it would get me a ton of points) and I beat him. Woo hoo!!!

After some more rides we stopped for an ice cream cone at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor.. Justin really liked their ice cream! The line was not long at all and were in and out.

Kids cones for us! Seriously best value ever.

I had mint chocolate chip and Justin had vanilla.

A few hours later we headed to our new home for the next few days .. THE POLY!! Seriously one step in the door and we were obsessed. The villas are absolutely beautiful and I am so glad we decided to stay there! When we were renting our points we originally wanted to stay at the Wilderness Lodge but with the construction, and the Poly being available, we were so happy with our choice.

This was our view.

This is how excited we were to be staying at the Poly! Lol

One of my "must dos" was to see the Festival of Fantasy parade at MK. Because there was a parade taping that day, they bumped the FOF parade back a few hours to 5 pm. So before our Ohana dinner that night, we headed back to see FOF, and it was amazing as always!

Next up, our absolute favorite dinner at WDW, Ohana.

That night we had a dinner ADR at Ohana at I believe 8:10 PM. Since we were staying right at the Poly we decided to head over a little early and have a drink at Tambu Lounge.

Ohana is our absolute favorite dinner here so we always have to go there. There is always a wait to be seated so we have come to enjoy watching a game and having a drink at Tambu Lounge beforehand.

I don't know what was on, college football of some kind, but Justin was happy to sit and watch while we waited.

23197938280_68d10d5a40_z.jpg

We decided on an Island Sunset to share.

23468140306_56c721914c_z.jpg

Island Sunset - Seven Tiki Spiced Rum, PARROT BAY Coconut Rum, melon and peach combined with our guava-passion fruit juice

I think this was like $9 or $10, so average for a WDW drink. It was really good! I don't really like rum unless it's mixed in with a fruity drink. This wasn't really that strong and did not have a strong alcohol taste at all. Perfect to pass the time while we waited for our table.

I believe our reservation was for 8:10 PM. We were about a half hour early to check in. Around 8:40 we were a half hour past our seating time so I just took our buzzer to the front desk to check on it. The poor guy who was checking everyone in was very apologetic but he told me this: "Your buzzer should've gone off 5 minutes ago, but it didn't." So I'm like ok? Is there something wrong with the buzzer!? Glad I checked.. and he said "We have the tables open but we don't have enough people to seat everyone as quickly as we would like so your table's been ready for like ten minutes but there's no one to seat you." Whaaaaa? OK so 5 minutes later our buzzer went off and all was good but I just though that was odd.

We were seated in the same area we ate for breakfast (and the same area we ate for dinner the last time we were there). Our server this time was GREAT - his name was Josh. Seriously we waited for nothing! The last time we had dinner there, our service was less than stellar and our server wanted no part in serving us, it seemed like. So the server we had that night was fantastic and we made sure to let him know!

We were seated right next to the grill where they cook the meats.

23411767531_acde33cdf3_z.jpg

We were given the salad, which both of us loved. This has edamame, won ton strips, and pomegranate vinaigrette dressing.

23411962651_82388b5b0d_z.jpg

And our server brought out the dipping sauces for the meat.

23494282575_604849754f_z.jpg

And one of the best parts... honey coriander wings and potstickers. Seriously I could make a meal off of these two items alone.

Noodles with steamed veggies:
22865405074_f5b334b684_z.jpg

The noodles and steamed veggies were delicious. Sometimes I find that the veggies aren't really cooked enough and they're still really crunchy, but this time they were done well.

Chicken came around on the skewers first: The chicken was done well without being too dry. Love this.

23468221836_07405fdfd0_z.jpg

Our server gave us SO MUCH steak! Whew. I prefer mine to be medium-well and Justin likes his well done so there were a few pieces that I had to trade with him since the steak was more medium-well this time around.

23197937620_9ea0be0da2_z.jpg

Up next, the shrimp. These are my fave.

22867122203_08f24c9286_z.jpg

Lastly the best dessert ever, bread pudding! I can't lie I probably ate half of this.. but Justin ate most of the ice cream because (gasp) he doesn't like bread pudding!

23125738189_17f2802fa1_z.jpg

Afterwards, we literally rolled ourselves back to the room which was SO NICE. Stretchy pants on and we were ready to watch some Wishes! We went to the end of the hall and out the door on the third floor and we were facing the fireworks. It was so nice to be so close! Justin and I both rated this meal a 4.5 because it was really great, the only thing he wishes there was, was some better done steak. I don't think we even though about asking for a different temperature of steak. It was a great meal.

I somehow came down with the wine flu and I've been in bed all day.. :confused3 Not sure how that happened. :rotfl:
Msn, I've gotten this a few times myself. If you find out what causes it be sure to let me know ; )

The verdict on these? Not a fan. I'm not sure what I expected, but these just weren't my thing unfortunately. I honestly ate half of one and the rest didn't get eaten because they're not Justin's thing either. I know plenty of people rave about these but they're not something I'll be going after again.. That's okay though there is plenty of other wonderful WDW food to be had!
I'm with ya on the zebra domes. I had such high expectations and was woefully disappointed.

I'm going to have to check these out. I struggle with shoes for the parks. Got myself a pair of Ola Kai flip flops for the last trip and the did well, but not for long days.

The sandwiches were lukewarm at best and honestly it seemed like the quality of the sandwich had decreased since our previous visit in June.
I'm totally with you, volume has not been BoG's friend.

The French Onion soup was really delicious! We'll definitely get this again if we come back. Hot with lots of thick cheese, not too salty either. We rated this a 4.
The exception of course begin this little cup of joy. We were big fans too.

Same for us. It just feels like vacation away from it all yet just across from MK

Yum!!!

Sounds like a meal to me.

These look delicious and strangeley not at all like the shrimp I made for dinner.

Lastly the best dessert ever, bread pudding! I can't lie I probably ate half of this.. but Justin ate most of the ice cream because (gasp) he doesn't like bread pudding!
Still can't believe I haven't gotten to try this. We hoped to get it last trip at the lounge but just had a lapu lapu instead ; )

Sounds like a great dinner and an amazing way to end the night. Gotta love the poly.

Merry Christmas Ashley :goodvibes Totally cannot believe I've missed this! As usual it's a great report and I'm enjoying it so far. It's really got me wanting to go back for F&W!!
Glad you finally got to Sanaa-it's one of our faves along with the bread service-but I wish Justin went with the butter chicken! I love it. I've considered trying the Tandoori chicken but now I'm thinking I should just stick with my usual :thumbsup2 Definitely give lunch a try!

Sketchers Go-Walks: best shoes for the parks I've ever purchased!

I really should not read your dining reviews while hungry and drinking wine. I want to eat everything and there is next to nothing but booze in my house ; )

Thanks for all the great food and wine reviews. That sustainable chew booth really seems to have taken the cake this year. And who knew China was so good. And totally have to get myself some of those nachos next trip. They look unbelievable.

Those nachos were totally an unexpected fantastic item! I guess we needed a break from all the fancy F&W items we tried. ;)

I just found your report and can't wait to dig into it. I have only read your first post board so far. Y'all are a cute couple!

We are headed back at the end of May after a 2-year break when we went to Disneyland instead. Thanks for posting your report; it will be helpful to fill in my gaps as I have made my ADRs, but am still fine tuning everything and trying to decide on our quick service meals.

Thank you for reading! :) I love reading others dining reports so I am so happy you're enjoying it. We'll be heading to Disneyland next year for our honeymoon for the first time.

Msn, I've gotten this a few times myself. If you find out what causes it be sure to let me know ; )

That darn wine flu, seriously! I never know how it happens but I hate myself every time and I always swear it will never happen again. :rotfl2:

I've heard good things about those flip flops, too! Only thing that I didn't love about the go walks was my feet sweating (ew) but you'll have that with any sneaker type shoe in WDW I guess.

I don't know what I expected w/ the zebra domes but it was not what I got, lol. I think I expected chocolate cake or something!?

Hi Ariane, Merry Christmas to you and your guys! I think next time Justin will like the butter chicken. That was the second on his list but somehow the tandoori won out, but once he tried the butter chicken at F&W he was wishing he had ordered that instead. We can't wait to go back for lunch, even if just for the bread service!

Hooray for the Poly and Ohana! I stayed at the Poly in October for the first time and totally loved it. We sadly couldn't get an Ohana ressie, but already have one for our trip next spring. Can't wait for those potstickers!

I hope you love Ohana! We are trying to get back to WDW this spring and my fiance mentioned skipping it :crazy2: I'm not sure that I can!

The next morning, I was up super early, so I made myself a cup of coffee to enjoy on the balcony while Justin slept a little longer. It was so nice out there. I think I was actually out there for like an hour and a half before he was even up. So relaxing!!

Justin decided he wanted to try breakfast at Captain Cook's. He isn't a huge breakfast guy but is satisfied with a breakfast sandwich or bagel or something. We honestly weren't in a rush that morning as we'd pretty much done all of the rides we'd hoped to, so we decided the last few days of our trip would be slow paced.

23126500329_ae44ca55f1_z.jpg

Having just eaten a rather big dinner at Ohana the night before, I wasn't super hungry. But.. we had breakfast at Kona the next day, and breakfast at Be Our Guest the following day (our last day), and I was really torn. I really wanted to try two different entrees at Kona but I knew I'd only get to try one (knowing Justin wouldn't like either) so when I heard that Captain Cook's had the infamous TONGA TOAST... I knew I had to try it.

The one thing I noticed about Captain Cook's that seems different is that you get in line to check out and place your order, then they give you a buzzer and you return later for your food. I think every other resort I've stayed at is the opposite - get in line to order, they give you the food, and you pay for it on your way out.

That being said, Capt Cook's had only two registers so it was SUPER busy.

22866186434_85825d203f_z.jpg

22866338364_4ec262534a_z.jpg

They had a cooler full of pastries that you could get, I think these were probably all a snack credit.

23412064421_7a2d8f49e0_z.jpg

They had some pretty good options for a QS breakfast.

23494570475_368b7f2ec1_z.jpg

23470944416_5e7fed656d_z.jpg

We paid for our food, waited for it, and found a table outside to eat. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here, though it was pretty busy every time we were there.

I of course had my Tonga Toast.

23198725270_8d0808936f_z.jpg

23126499539_15cecd438f_z.jpg

Tonga Toast - Banana-stuffed sourdough bread, battered, deep-fried, and dusted with cinnamon sugar. With bacon or sausage, $6.99
And the inside .. :bounce:

22867396973_b007babef2_z.jpg

This was good, but it did not live up to the hype for me. Perhaps it was the missing strawberry sauce? Although I don't even know if I'd like that. My piece was a little burnt. I also don't like bananas on their own but generally I like things such as banana muffins or bread so I didn't think I'd have a problem with this. It wasn't really overwhelming and the parts with the big hunks of banana I just picked out. I ate about 1/3 of this - it was one of those times where you knew you should eat something.. but you didn't need a bunch.. so I packaged it up and put it in the fridge for later.

I rated this a 3.5 because it was good despite me not really liking the big hunks of bananas (but that's personal preference and I knew what I was getting into!)

Justin decided on a breakfast sandwich. Pretty basic and an option that can be found most places.

23494571845_37293984dc_z.jpg

Breakfast Sandwich - Eggs, bacon and cheddar on a croissant, $6.49

He liked this and was satisfied with his choice. He rated it a 3 and said it was just okay and nothing special.

Justin thought Captain Cook's was good, and at this point in our trip we felt like we had eaten at SO MANY ADR's that he requested that I cancel our Be Our Guest breakfast for Saturday, and we'd return to Captain Cook's (or another QS) instead. I was so happy he suggested that because our ADR was at 8 and I thought we'd want to sleep in before checking out on our last day. Also, I wasn't too keen on the $21.99/person we'd have to spend (unless we split which he probably wouldn't go for), so I was happy to cancel it.

After this, we headed to Epcot for a few rides before our ADR at Via Napoli. We had an Eat to the Beat Package since Hanson was playing that night! #MMBOP :jumping3:

Glad you finally got to try the Tonga Toast but sorry it was a disappointment. Even after staying at Poly last trip I've yet to try it, but only cause I can't pull myself away from the Samoan at Kona. Still wanna try it, but after your review it can wait a few trips ; )

I really enjoy following your dining reports!! We check into the poly in 12 days:D:D and can't wait to try the Tonga toast for the first time. It does look yummy.

I'm so confused as far as where to eat breakfast when we go in a couple weeks and you aren't helping lol!! When we're at the Poly, I was going to go to the Wave one morning and Grand Floridian Café another. We did Kona breakfast once and DH didn't like it at all and doesn't want to go back. But then I decided to just do Capt. Cooks one morning and nix GF Café.........but I keep hearing the set up is weird and all reports seem to say it's always crowded. I guess since you were ok going back twice it really wasn't that bad? If you didn't want to sleep in on your last morning would you have preferred a TS breakfast again over Capt. Cooks?

The Samoan was on my list, too! Too many good things to try. But now that I tried the pineapple macadamia pancakes I'm not sure that I can pull myself away from those.

They didn't play MMBOP????? :faint::eek::confused::confused3o_O:crazy2::scared::sad2:
(I think that's their only song I know!)

THEY DIDNT! I kept saying to my fiance "It has to be next..." But it wasn't! Their new music was pretty good, though I didn't know any of the songs haha.

Thanks, I am glad you are enjoying it! The Tonga toast was pretty good despite my distaste for bananas ;) My fiance had the breakfast burrito a few days later and he really liked that too.

Hahaha, there are SO MANY good breakfast options! I am dying to try the Wave too, a lot of people love their breakfast buffet from what I have seen. It wasn't too bad for a quick service. I personally love a TS breakfast because I don't get yummy breakfast stuff like that too often, but Justin is OK with a quick one - so I probably would've wanted a TS had we not wanted to sleep in that morning. Captain Cook's was definitely crowded, the two registers doesn't help, but we never waited too long. The set up is pretty odd, we would look at the menu, see what we wanted, wait in line for 5-ish minutes, pay and get our buzzer, find a table, wait 5-10 more minutes, then our buzzer would go off and one of us would have to go get our food. The food itself was just OK in my opinion, nothing special, I had Mickey Waffles and Tonga Toast and Justin had the breakfast burrito (which he raved about) and the croissant sandwich. So it wasn't terrible but for as big as the resort is you'd think it would be a bit bigger! Since that was really our first deluxe experience I'm not sure what the others are like (since Kidani doesn't have a QS place).

Ok, rethinking my plan again :scared: Lol guess I'll ask Steve his opinion on this. He usually just goes with whatever I decide :thumbsup2 but since he REALLY isn't such a fan of CS I'll let him weigh in. Thanks for your thoughts! And Happy New Year to you and Justin pixiedust:
