Please help me settle and argument I am having with my boss (on company time - haha). He claims to have heard that Mickey and Minnie are actually married. I have never heard this and firmly said "nope, they live in separate houses in Toontown." After laughter amongst co-workers, my boss says he heard it on the radio. First of all, this particular boss is not a Disneyfile and, frankly, jokes about my Disney obsession. I think he is pulling my leg. So I went to the interwebs and found a random site claiming that Walt once said that Mickey and Minnie were married "in their private lives" but remain single on screen. Hmm... :confused3

What say you all - the actual Disney experts - on this subject?

I say single for the following reasons: 1. Separate house; 2. She hasn't taken his name. ( I looked at her drivers license).

I've read that they were married in the 30's, but that on-screen, they're only dating. There was even a song about the wedding. Dave Smith was on PCC 4.0 and showed a picture of the song sheet, if I remember correctly.

I think the official line is they are not marie where there is some confusion is the actors who did the voices for Mickey and Minnie at one point were married. The actor who did the voice of mickey has since passed away and been replaced by someone else well his widow still voices minnie.

From the Walt Disney Family Museum:
People have often speculated as to just what kind of relationship Mickey and Minnie share. In the September 30, 1933 issue of Film Pictorial magazine, Walt Disney addressed that very subject. “In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie. A lot of people have written to him asking this question, because sometimes he appears to be married to her in his films and other times still courting her. What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady. If the story calls for a romantic courtship, then Minnie is the girl; but when the story requires a married couple, then they appear as man and wife. In the studio we have decided that they are married already.”

They are progressive and don't need a paper to show their love.

That's what's wrong with this country! Two mice getting married. That never would have happened in my day!

I believe society calls this a "common law marriage". :rotfl2:

So you are both right!

but then again you point out that they have separate housing. However that could be just for business purposes of where they work and in reality they have the same primary residence.

Wait! Minnie and Mickey don't have the same last name? What's that all about? I thought they were Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Oh my you have crushed my day.

What about Donald and Daisy? Just sweet hearts?

I thought I saw Minnie in a wedding dress in a past cartoon.

I'm so confused.

Wish Walt could clarify this.
I'll be talking to the CM in the Magic Kingdom tour area next week to see what scoop I can find out. After all they know all Disney.

They live separately because they like their space. And they got that paper to have 2 places.
