Michigan DIS meet next month at HFM

It looks like the weather will be perfect this weekend for a trip to Henry Ford. Please post pics!!! I want to go when I get back from DL.

It looks like a fun exhibit. Can someone who has gone please clarify something for me - does the exhibit have an additional price to get in? If so, can you get into just the Disney exhibit and not the rest of the museum? (It said Disney Exhibit tickets were $10 for adults and that the non-Member tickets include Museum admission. But the Henry Ford site also had a one-day museum ticket at $14 for an adult :confused3 :confused3 )

The girls have a half day off school next week - maybe I should make it a full day? :rolleyes1

Thanks for the help!

Yes there is a seperate admission to the exhibit, when you purchase the museum ticket tell them you want to see Disney. I think the total is $24/ticket. No you can not see Disney with out admission to the museum. I would definetly make it a whole day there is so much to see there! Then theres the village portion, but that has a seperate admission as well.

In with my Comcast bill yesterday there was a coupon for the Disney display at the Henry Ford Museum so I guess it is a separate admission.

I am going to the exhibit tomorrow with my DD and my sister/niece who are visiting from California.

Yes, I do know the price is $14 to get into the museum and then an extra $10 for the Disney exhibit ... total of $24 to see the exhibit unless you are a member.

I've been the the museum and it is fabulous ... looking forward to see the exhibit too!!!

Any feedback from those who have seen it?

I went on 10/2 (sorry just found this thread). I stopped for every video and looked at/read/studied every display and it took me about two hours to go through.

Some pretty cool stuff. Some preliminary drawings that actually had houses on Main Street. Mostly it was elevation drawings, color charts and concept art for the attractions though some "secrets" are revealed. There were some drawings and information of things that never made it. I think my favorite was the concept drawing for the "castle" for Paris that look liked the apartment houses in the Jetsons (the ones on stilts). The pages from the cast member handbook were interesting too.

This is very much a Disneyland history, not Walt. I did not find it as broad as One Man's Dream. The displays were not as varied as One Man's Dream either.

If you have any questions I'll try and answer them.

Well I was wondering if it would be similar to One Man's Dream. Glad you told me how long you were in the exhibit. My sis and her daughter are not the Disney nut that me and my DD are so I may suggest we split up as this will be their first time at the museum ... they may want to spend more time on the regular exhibits which my DD and I have seen most of.

I'll try to remember to post again once I've been.

We saw the exhibit on Friday. While it was wonderful, I really didn't think it was as interesting as One Man's Dream. Some of the lighting was poor and some of the signs were difficult to read - even with my reading glasses on. I guess you have high expectations given that it is a Disney exhibit.

We also read/viewed everything there was and it took us about 2 hours as well.

Photography of any kind was prohibited. You were allowed to sit in the ride vehicles for Mr. Toad and Peter Pan, but NO PICTURES.

Outside of the exhibit, however, they had a Toontown Trolley that you could climb on and take photos to your heart's content. They also had tables where you could pick up some "tatoos" and Pirate names for a paper pirate's hat - along with your choice of colored feather. We had fun wearing these throughout the day.

The exhibit also boosted it's own giftshop and we purchased a $10 poster with the Haunted Mansion pictures (stretching room) with the "50 Years of Disney" Henry Ford Museum and the dates of the exhibit. We also bought a coffee mug with the exhibit name/dates, etc for $13.

My personal opinion is, if you live in the area, check it out. I wasn't that impressed with it to recommend that it is a "must see at all costs."

Just MHO.

A couple of my fellow teachers went the day they had the "teacher preview" and said that they were disappointed in it, too, and were glad they didn't have to pay the $10 to see it. They said you had to be a Disney fan to appreciate it.

I'll reserve judgement until I see in in the next couple of weeks. I am a member, so it won't cost me the price of admission to the museum to go, just the exhibit.
