Michigan and DVC

Hey there my Michigan friends!

I am a newbie here, as this is my first post. But I have been a lurcker here for a long time. We just returned from our first visit "home" at the BCVs. As most people on this board, we are thrilled with our DVC purchase and are on a mission to acquire more points! <G>

We live in Livonia, in the Farmington and 7 Mile road area. I am a teacher and my DH works in Auburn Hills. We are the proud parents of two sons. Our oldest just graduated from LTU with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is on a quest to find a job. Our youngest is going into his third year at MSU to become a science teacher.

As I said, we just returned on Monday night from the BCVs. We had a few 'minor" problems while there. The DVD player wasn't connected properly, doorknobs on the closet fell off in our hands, the door lock on the master bathroom fell off and when our company went to turn on the lights in the second bedroom, there were no lightbulbs in the fixtures. All the problems were taken care of promptly.

We were in a dedicated 2 bedroom, room 378. The second bedroom had a bed and a pull out couch. We stopped by the model downstairs (room 108) and overheard the hostess telling some visitors that all dedicated 2 bedrooms have 2 beds in the second bedroom! Of course we corrected her <G>. We did have only a small balcony off the living room with a view of the parking lot. It was very quiet on the end, however.

We had a wonderful time, meeting with a great group of friends while there. We ate a Rose and Crown and found the food only so/so. We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at Boma's with our group of 10 and then enjoyed a super dinner at the Yachtsman Steak House with a great server named Michael. He was very attentive and friendly!

I already have a studio booked for next Easter and am going to combine my points with a friend for a visit in August 2003 at OKW. We are anxiously looking forward to that visit because it will coincide with the Drum Corp Finals that will be held at the Citrus Bowl there in 03.

Our other interests include DCI and you will find us next week in Indianapolis at the RCA Dome for a competition there and then we'll be in Madison, Wisconsin for DCI finals Aug 11!

Wow Pinnie we are neighbors! I am South of 7 mile between Newburgh and Levan. Welcome to the DIS! Glad you had a great trip.

WOW - it is amazing to me how many DVC- Michigan people are from the same area - don't worry I won't sing but...."It's A Small World"......

Hi! We are a family of three from Northville (son is 11). We own at BWV. Sanddune, you will love living in Northville. Its great.

Another Michigander checking in!

We live about 6 miles north of Dexter (Webster Township) on 11 acres. Dexter is outside of Ann Arbor.

We are both transplants: my husband is orginally from Blaine, Minnesota and I am from Western Pennsylvania.

We have one daughter, who is three. We purchased our first contract, an OKW resale, in June of 2001 and just closed on an OKW add on. We try and get there twice a year (spring and fall); and have made 3 trips so far with a fourth planned for early December.

Lars624, I think you and I are the closest "neighbors" so far. Did you see me at the Brighton 4th of July parade??!

LisaR, my husband works in Dearborn, he's an engineer at Ford. He hasn't started to grumble about the drive yet, but he leaves pretty early in the morning!

TerryS and Pinnie, I still get my hair cut in Livonia at 7/Farmington area. I used to live in Northville, and some habits are hard to break!

Hope you guys are all having fun at the Ann Arbor Art Fair! It's great, except for those of us who work in town (I'm at U of M)--for us, it is a sea of madness!

My wife and I live in Ann Arbor, MI, though by this time next year, it will probably be somewhere in FL. We bought at the BCV in Feb, as soon as they went on sale (we were actually getting ready to buy at BWV when they announced the BCV - you know what they say, buy where you want to stay the most!).

We are a family of 4 in Southfield, with 2 boys (11 & 12). We own at BWV and HH, and just returned home from our first BWV trip!

Hello from a former Michigan resident and former DVC'er (had to sell our points at VWL for financial reasons). I grew up and still have family in the Camden (tri-state) area. I lived and worked a couple of summers between Ludington and Traverse City. Every year at about this time I get really homesick for there.

I've been in Iowa for 20 years now.

I've lurked on this board for a long time now, but decided that this would be a good thread to finally join in.

Welcome, PennyRoberts!

We're from Kalamazoo with three kids. We hope DVC is in our future! :D

Hi from a DIS Lurker and DVC Wanna-be

Just wanted to chime in from Alpena in northeastern MI

We have rented points for a visit to OKW in Oct./Nov.
with a secret hope to convince DW to become members,
keep your fingers crossed.

DisneyFan Lisa- My family is from Powers, not far from Iron Mt.
I guess that makes me a all most a Up-er.:D

Penny-My closest friend growing up had a weekend home in Camden that her parents eventually retired in. They finally sold it about 10 years ago when her Dad pased away and she moved her mom back here. Her brother and his family still live there.

Hey, UpNorthPooh! I don't feel quite so lonely now.... ;)

I always wonder what happened to all the West Michigan DVCers. We are a family of five from Zeeland, MI. I know of two other families from our town who are DVC members. We purchased in 97 and have purchased two add ons since. We typically go once in the Fall, and then again in March. Can't wait for our next trip this November!

upnorthpooh - my best friend from college is a County Commishioner from the city of Alpena (Mike Nunneley) Have you meet him? I keep hoping we can arrange a trip together. I took our other college room mates family with us last year.

I just had to jump back in and say we lived in Alpena for two years while I was in high school. I'm willing to bet, WDWDad, that UpnorthPooh knows Mike Nunneley (boy, that last name sounds familiar!). Everyone knows everyone there -- at least that's how it was 15 years ago; goodness knows things can change, but I don't think Alpena's grown that much. Can't say for sure -- since the day we left, I've never gone back.

UpnorthPooh -- does the scent of Abitibi still linger in the air? ;)

WDWDad- I do not know Mike, like DiznEeyore said everybody in Alpena knows everybody but we a new here. Alpena is one of more then a few towns in Michigan that work has taken us. I actually grew up in Gaylord. I do hope you get a chance to take Mike and his family to WDW, Im sure they would love it.

DiznEeyore- The scent of Abitibi is still hanging around, it has been a tough summer. The only thing different is that Abitibi has changed hands three or four times since you have left.

Upnorthpooh-
I'm starting to be a little familiar with Gaylord because my sister moved to Lewiston and Gaylord is the closest place to go for shopping. I really like that area alot. I've spent some time in Alpena too because my inlaws have 120 acres in Harrisville and Alpena is the closest town there.

Lars624-
Im glad you have enjoyed the Gaylord area, it is one of my favorites but Im a little biased.

I have been to the Brighton area, the co. I work for has warehouse there, but I have seen little out side of that building.

Okay, for those of us in Livonia, Westland, Novi, Northville, Redford.... How far is the meet for us? How long will it take to get there?

I think it's a couple hour trip. I'm planning to check a map later this week & I'll let you know.
