After a reasonable night's sleep at the Gatwick Hilton we wake around 7am. We head down to breakfast in the Garden Restaurant, where we enjoy a lavish breakfast buffet (Half Price thanks to Holiday Extras), the boys are served hot chocolate from a teapot! Fully fortified for the long day ahead we finish packing up and walk over to the terminal at around 8.45am.

I had checked in online the day before so we just had to do the bag drop. Quite long queues everywhere but we are seen fairly quickly. However the conveyor belt that transports the bags is broken so we wait a long time to get the bags checked in. Eventually all the bags are sorted and we go through Security, no wait, and through to the departure lounge. We buy books, magazines and drinks in WHSmiths, then wander to the gate.

The plane is rather late landing so is still being prepped. We board around 11.30 and take off around 12pm. The flight takes a very long 9 hours. I watch The Prestige and, no I didn't understand it either. DH watches it later and says it's the sort of film maybe you're not supposed to understand!? I am sat next to a girl whose family has been split up around the cabin, they made quite a lot of fuss on boarding but there was nothing the crew could do. The youngest girl was maybe 12 and she got a bit upset, but she did end up sitting with her sister.

We land in Orlando at 4.20, collect our bags, go through immigration and then take the monrail thingy to the main terminal. DH is surprised to hand the bags back in but I assure him this is standard procedure! He sorts out the car, we had booked a luxury car but he can't resist an upgrade to an SUV for an extra $10 per day. We collect the car and are very impressed. The weather is warm but rainy.

We cautiously negotiate the roads to the US27 and Bahama Bay. One minor crisis where we get stuck at an unmanned toll without any change, we have to beg some from the car behind! We check in and are shown to a huge 3 bed apartment with all mod cons. We are flagging by now so we eat at the restaurant on-site, this is adequate but nothing special. We soon return to our villa to bed.

Always great to arrive and find where you are staying.

Who did you fly with?

Looking forward to hearing about your first full day.

Thanks

Susan

One minor crisis where we get stuck at an unmanned toll without any change, we have to beg some from the car behind! .

same thing happened to us this year as well
only the car behind us had no change
He told us just to go on

never heard anything more about it :confused3
but the car was filled with all our change from then on

Looking forward to hearing all about your first trip
are you hooked

We flew with Virgin, it was a package from Virgin Holidays. We enjoyed having the seat-back TVs and DH and DS1 liked the games! In fact the boys were so busy watching TV they didn't use any of the books, colouring, comics I had brought with us!!

Ummm, am I hooked, not completely and DH doesn't want to go back for another 3 years or so. I would go back again like a shot but not year after year I think.

Shame for the girl split from her family but hopefully the flight was okay.
Great now that your there. Looking forward to hearing about your first park day :goodvibes

Look forward to hearing more:thumbsup2

I loved The Prestige when I saw it.

Off to read the next days report.

I just KNOW, no matter how much I plan this holiday, that I will forget to get change before I leave the airport for the tolls!

Having said that, I will likely take a route other than the Beachline Expressway to my hotel so dont think I will face any tolls....I hope :teeth:

p.s Enjoying reading the reports Michelle :thumbsup2

Sounds like the journey wasn't too stressful, but that is a very long flight. Looking forward to hearing about your first full Florida day.

We had an SUV last year and loved it!

We also had no change! we drove through very cautiously, prepared to stop if spikes lept up out of the road or something....but nothing happened so we carried on. After that DH refused to throw money in unless he had some cents rolling around

Its like the car park at Blackgang Chine, Isle of Wight. You approach a "staffed" booth and throw in the right money, then realise its a mannekin dressed up:rotfl: DH got caught the first time we went, and again 4 years later:lmao:
