After a reasonable night's sleep at the Gatwick Hilton we wake around 7am. We head down to breakfast in the Garden Restaurant, where we enjoy a lavish breakfast buffet (Half Price thanks to Holiday Extras), the boys are served hot chocolate from a teapot! Fully fortified for the long day ahead we finish packing up and walk over to the terminal at around 8.45am.
I had checked in online the day before so we just had to do the bag drop. Quite long queues everywhere but we are seen fairly quickly. However the conveyor belt that transports the bags is broken so we wait a long time to get the bags checked in. Eventually all the bags are sorted and we go through Security, no wait, and through to the departure lounge. We buy books, magazines and drinks in WHSmiths, then wander to the gate.
The plane is rather late landing so is still being prepped. We board around 11.30 and take off around 12pm. The flight takes a very long 9 hours. I watch The Prestige and, no I didn't understand it either. DH watches it later and says it's the sort of film maybe you're not supposed to understand!? I am sat next to a girl whose family has been split up around the cabin, they made quite a lot of fuss on boarding but there was nothing the crew could do. The youngest girl was maybe 12 and she got a bit upset, but she did end up sitting with her sister.
We land in Orlando at 4.20, collect our bags, go through immigration and then take the monrail thingy to the main terminal. DH is surprised to hand the bags back in but I assure him this is standard procedure! He sorts out the car, we had booked a luxury car but he can't resist an upgrade to an SUV for an extra $10 per day. We collect the car and are very impressed. The weather is warm but rainy.
We cautiously negotiate the roads to the US27 and Bahama Bay. One minor crisis where we get stuck at an unmanned toll without any change, we have to beg some from the car behind! We check in and are shown to a huge 3 bed apartment with all mod cons. We are flagging by now so we eat at the restaurant on-site, this is adequate but nothing special. We soon return to our villa to bed.
