Day 8 - Fri 9 Feb. Warm and sunny.

The plan for today on our itinerary was either half a day at Animal Kingdom or SeaWorld, followed by some chill time before a meal at Wofgang Puck's and Cirque du Soleil. We ruled out SeaWorld as we had enjoyed a really good day there on Monday and seen everything we wanted to. I hadn't been on Everest on our first visit to AK the previous Friday, as I had been feeling a bit queasy, so I was keen to return to AK. The boys were keen to return to Blizzaed Beach too, so we decided to do both! We took our evening clothes with us so that we could change later.

So we make an early start to get to Animal Kingdom for opening. We see lots of characters including Mickey in his safari gear to open the park for the day. We hadn't seen this last week, maybe because it had been raining? We decided to split up as DS2 doesn't like rollercoasters, so he and DH head to Africa to go on the safari, while DS1 and I head for Expedition Everest. We realise we should have taken the park tickets so we could get fastpasses for another go, but never mind. We approach a longish queue for Everest but it is moving very quickly and we are on within ten minutes. A very exciting ride, I have a good scream! DS1 is comparing notes on coasters with an older boy in the queue.

As we exit we make a quick detour to the Ladies! We then rejoin the standby queue which is now 30 mins! It takes about 40 mins as there is a delay at one point due to a 'technical difficulty'. Oh well we get to examine the theming of the waiting areas, which is very good. We enjoy our second ride and then walk quickly to our rendezvous point to meet the others at 10.30am. They are a bit late as one of the safari vehicles had broken down, but they had been on twice and seen lots of animals.

We then walk slowly to leave the park, it feels very odd to be leaving while everyone else is still arriving! But the sun is shining and we are looking forward to a swim at Blizzard Beach. We ignore the pleas for a stop at McDonalds (bit too early yet!) and get to Blizzard Beach which looks a lot quieter than on Wednesday. We set up 'camp' at Tikes Peak and I relax while DS2 plays with the fountains. We buy some water shoes and lip salve. We share fish and chips for lunch and I have a cocktail to complete the the atmosphere! We then all go on Teamboat Springs, DS2 is a bit worried but survives unscathed, and we then have a float round the lazy river. Certain people try to force me under the cold jets of water but they do not succeed! The boys and DH share a bucket of ice cream with lots of sweets on. At 2.30pm we go and change into our decent clothes for the evening.

We drive to Downtown Disney and have a quick look round the shops. We have an ADR for Wolfgang Puck's at 4pm. We are shown to a very nice table overlooking the lake and spend a long time perusing the menu. We decide upon calamari and the veg spring rolls to start, then I have fettucini with chicken and cream sauce, DH has the sushi platter, DS1 has chicken strips and DS2 has pasta with meatballs. The food is good but not outstanding, with the starters being better than the mains. There are several tables around that have not been cleared and our server disappears for long periods of time. Maybe I had too high expectations but I was slightly disappointed.

We have tickets for the 6pm show of Cirque du Soleil. We enter around 5.30 and manage to resist the popcorn. We have good seats and settle down to enjoy the show. The boys love the clowns which are entertaining the crowd before the main show. We watch mesmerised by all the performances that unfold around us, and the music is fantastic. A good time was had by all! Tired but happy we head home.

Next day: Mini-Golf and Epcot!

Michelle,
You're doing an excellent job of reporting. I should also say that your entire family did an excellent job of vacationing, so that you would have lots of fun things to report.

So sorry that WP was a slight let down--it's one of my favorites among favorites. The Orlando Wolfgang's is award winning and has always been a delight, so I'm surprised to read about the semi-neglecful service and the slow bussing of the tables around you. I can only think that the mid-afternoon shift was short-handed, but that's no excuse for a restaurant that bears Wolfgang's name. I really hope this was just the odd (though inexcusable) bad day and that things are back to right.

Have to ask--where among your photo illustrations do we see you? Are you one of those family photographers who some how avoids getting her own picture taken?

Thanks for your kind comments, SusanEllen. There will be a shot with me in coming soon! And you can just see me in the horse-drawn tram at MK on Day 5 sitting next to the boys.

I too am enjoying your reports as it is great to see wdw through the eyes of a first time visitor.

Thank you

Susan
