My 11yo son has been on a modified Atkins plan since January 10th. He's bound and determined to do well and I WISH I had the commitment he has.

Just watching the pounds fall off of him is incredible. But having Mommy tell him is just not enough.

Yesterday his teachers made a big deal about the weight he lost and boy was he proud! One of his teachers asked him if she could join him! :teeth:

He asked his coach if he could run more laps during PE. His coach is in shock! And so am I!

It's not easy to be a kid on a "diet". I was one and it was no fun. Finding a way to enjoy it is a daily thing for us, and to reap the rewards is just the cherry on the top of the sundae!

Oh Robin!!! I am SO HAPPY for Michael!!! I can't even imagine how big your smile is--you must be so proud of him!!! He is to be congratulated on is motivation and determination--most adults don't have his strength and drive! Gosh, he must be feeling so AMAZING about himself (extra laps in PE?:hyper: )--I've got goosebumps, myself!

I am so thrilled for both of you, Robin! I saw your pictures from the Atlanta DIS Meet, and may I say that you're both quite the lookers! The girls must be crazy over that boy of yours--are you having to beat them off with a stick, yet?:)

Please give Michael some big Old Lady Hugs from me...   and take one for yourself! I'm so proud of both of you!

That's great Robin. I know you're so happy. We want so much for our kids and some things we just can't do for them. Most of the time they don't want us to do for them!
Michael must be so proud of his hard work.

Robin,
That's great news about Michael. Please tell him everyone here says "Great Work!" and that he's an inspiration to all of us. You must be so proud of him, and I can only imagine how good he feels about himself! :hyper: ::yes::

That is sooo wonderful! Good job, Michael!!!!

Robin, please give Michael some hugs from me too! It is so inspirational to see a young person like him do so well.

We are all so proud of him - and his mother too!! :)

Congrats to BOTH of you! What a wonderful example your son is setting for all the kids at school - whether they are overweight or not. His healthy lifestyle choices should be applauded!

Robin, that is soooo wonderful!!! I saw pictures of both you and Michael on Dan's Atlanta meet thread and you both look wonderful. As adults we need positive reinforcement for our hard work and so do our kids. How great that his teachers noticed and took the time to comment!!

Weigh to go Michael!!! Keep up the great work!!

You guys are so great. Yes, I AM proud of him, for more than anything for making this easy for ME.

I remember resenting my Mom for making me want to lose weight. She would get very angry with me and demand me to do things she wouldn't do. I had a very skinny sister and was always the only one in the house on a diet. I didn't want Michael to ever feel alone in this. He sees me doing the same thing, even on a higher level, so it motivates him. The food we eat we BOTH eat, the commitment we made we BOTH made, so it makes it so much easier for us both.

And YES, I have always had to beat the girls off him!! Not because of his looks but because he truly adores the female gender and works hard to protect and revere them. This is something ALL women want.

Thanks so much! I will definitely let him know that you guys are behind him. He grew up with the DIS and thinks the world of all of you, especially his cyber Grandma, nativetxn!! :bounce:

this is soooo wonderful
What made Michael decide it was time to loose the weight?
I wish DS would make some kind of commitment

With younger children that are dependent on their parents for food it is often a little easier than when the get older. You have developed some wonderful eating habits Barb -- and I'm sure you've passed alot of these on to your son also. Slowly stop buying the 'junk food' and replace it with healthy snacks. Don't order take out as often [where you are giving DS more choices]. By him eating only the healthy wonderful foods that you have available to him he will begin to see the results from the change. Once he sees the results -- he will likely make good choices for himself when the situations arrise.

And a BIG YOOOO HOOOO for Michael! He is quite a winner!

I'm so glad that Michael's teachers acknowledged his progress and success with Atkins. So motivating.

{{{HUGS}}} to our Michael!

I agree with wovenwonder, it is much easier to make the changes while they're young and eating mostly what YOU give them.

I was the one who decided it was time. Getting him to agree took more coercing and cheerleading on my part. Once he saw that he was not going to starve or be deprived it was very easy to get him excited about it. You HARDLY get hungry on Atkins so he really enjoys it. And once he saw the benefits, it's like all of us, no matter what anyone says, we know how it makes us feel! :teeth:

I seem to remember doing a little cheerleading for mom last May ;)
