I've been wondering what was going on with Michaels - at least in our area our Michaels have not been well stocked for quite awhile now.

I'm hoping that this means the stores will go back to what they once were! I would hate to see them shut down because I love to go in there and just wander (although that usually gets me into trouble!!).

According to the article, you will be paid $44.00 per share. They two groups who bought Michaels are taking the company private.

I'm in Ontario Canada and in the last couple of days I was at both of our local Michaels stores and I was surprised to find that both stores had under gone a total renovation - signage colours changed and the entire store layout. The colours and layout reminded me of the AC Moore store we recently visited in Niagara Falls NY. I too hope they don't close - I love those 40% off coupons.

If they change to ACMoore, you'll still have your 40% coupons. (50% at ACMoore this week) I have both stores near me and ACMoore consistently has better regular prices and better sale prices. Plus you can sign up to receive ACMoore store coupons on-line. You can print as many as you like, but are supposed to use only one per day.

Was just at Michael's yesterday -very well stocked! BTW, are you aware that they both offer teacher discounts? You can apply for discounts at both stores- Michael's and AC Moore. I love them both for yarn and scrapping supplies. Just finished a Disney scrapbook tonight and was able to get a few things at each store . Caroline

AC Moore tends to have poorer service, IMO. But Michael's takes original ACMoore/competitor coupons, so that works out.

I believe you can also print the coupon out on their website if it's in their weekly ad. But I've never tried so I'm not positive. I hope they don't change too much either but I have also noticed things have not been well stocked over the last month or so in our store - and we have a decent sized store. They did just put all the Sizzix dies under a lock and key and I thought that was strange.

Michaels probably put the Sizzix under lock because of theft. Hobby Lobby (when they still carried Sizzix) had to because of that. One store was totally wiped out in one night.

As a Michael's employee, I can tell you the following:

Michael's will be selling off some of their stores.
Michael's is building new stores (my store that I'm at is getting a larger one down the road).
Michael's has put Sizzix under lock and key due to theft. That's why there's all the empty boxes. (People have been stealing mass quantities of those expensive art pencil sets too).
Michaels does not accept coupons that have been printed.

And that's about all the thought I can put in at this time...lol...it's been a long sunday!

thank you for the update and info - I didn't see a coupon today, so now I might know why. and one thing I so didn't like about Michael's was the way they hide the prices on the register when I checked out. At least in our store - you had to fight to see the prices go by , and somehow I wondered if they were hoping I couldn't match against what I thought the price should be.
AC Moore would be fine.

Makes me kind of wonder about those dies on ebay. Not that I am accusing, but why would you take so many, if not to sell?
