IT'S GONNA BE CROWDED...

By Michelle Malkin · October 31, 2004 01:45 AM
...and it's bound to get ugly somewhere on Nov. 2.

Michael Moore says a total of 1,200 professional and nonprofessional cameramen, filmmakers and videographers will bring their cameras to polling places in Ohio and Florida to prevent "intimidation."

Moorewatch notes that "Moore himself is BLATANTLY trying to intimidate people with this ploy," and has issued this call: "For every camera crew you see, get two people to film *them*. Watch the watchers."

That's on top of the 100 or so U.N. monitors who will be elbowing their way into polling places across 20 states, including Florida; 10,000 Democrat lawyers; 3,600 GOP observers in Ohio; and 1,090 Justice Department enforcement monitors.

Bush-haters + Moore-haters + European nosybodies + Democrat paranoiacs + Republican crusaders + FBI agents + 24/7 media coverage + computer glitches + ballot confusion + fear of possible election-day terrorist attacks

If this isn't a recipe for trouble, I don't know what is.

I read an AP piece about this earlier this morning. All I can say is

I'm sorry, but this man makes me crazy!

Anything with MMoore..just gives me the ....ummm how can I put this nicely the creeps.

I have had the unfortunate expereince of meeting him. I thought he was okay until I met him. When I met him, I was just appalled on so many levels at the way he treats people that it made me sick. I can't stand him.

I've never heard of intimidation at any polls, but showing up with all those camera crews sure sounds like it to me.

I've met him briefly and hung out with his group of handlers. They were great people and very nice to my kids, but they were extremely busy and focused people. How did you meet him? What was your problem with him?

I will have my video camera with me at the polls in case I am harassed by any of the Republican "poll watchers" or "designated challengers." These people are hoping to intimidate democrats into not voting or having their votes thrown out on the basis of ridiculous information like one piece of mail being undeliverable. Here's a story of how they are imtimidating african american voters in Florida. You can watch the video segment at the right of the page. These tactics are why the cameras are necessary.

This is going to be a nightmare. Based on what the GOP plans
to do in Ohio, we will need to have it all filmed so there is NO
question about who did what. Sorry it's come down to that but
I have several friends who are worried about being confronted
at the polls; they are already intimidated so they need to be
protected. There is even a rumor around here that off duty
police are going to be specializing in their own kind of intimidation
on election day. It's ugly and we need to have documentation.
If you do not live in an urban area of Ohio, you have no idea
what is happening here. Of the 350 people who are my workmates, 300 of them are African American. I have a pretty
good idea of what they are feeling based on personal discussions
with them. They are literally afraid and are determined to vote.
It's awful. I am thankful for the filmakers headed to Ohio.

If people are legally eligible and registered to vote, why are they so worried about people asking them to prove it? I don't see how it is intimidation to ask someone to prove that they are who they say they are and that they are eligible to vote.

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad I am not in a state where someone might use those tactics when I'm trying to vote. If someone would try to vido tape me voting I'd call that an invasion of my privacy.

And mom0f2in pa...if you are legally registered then you should be able to vote with no problem...why are you so worried about it?

Unless something dishonest was going on I don't know why anyone would be upset about cameras videotaping the polls. Makes the Republicans nervous? GOOD!!!

I don't see anything wrong with videotaping at the polls. But I also see nothing wrong with asking people to prove that they are legal, eligible voters. Do you?

Let the paranoia begin!!!!!!!

You people are bordering on the ridiculous!

:scared: Paranoid doesn't even begin to describe it! I can't believe people who have always voted are afraid their vote will be challenged- if you have always voted and are legally registered why would you worry about it?

I think it's a good thing. Really. This way MM will have a visual reminder of the day Americans stood together against terrorism and pacifism and re-elected George W. Bush!!!

GO BUSH !!!

The GOP here in Florida has said they would use the Florida Felons List to challenge voters. The Felons List was so riddled with errors, inaccuracies, and an believable low number of Hispanics in relation to the population in Florida, that a court threw it out. But, does that stop the GOP? Hell, no.

It's his right as an American do film at the polls, so there's that. Whether it's a waste of time or not will be shown later in the week. Personally, I think it would be very funny if either (a) MM gets so caught up in trying to find voter corruption that HE forgets to vote; or (b) there are absolutely no problems at any of the polls anywhere and he ends up with thousands of feet of footage of ... nothing. :p

Update...

Well, it looks like you may not have to worry about that because two judges said that poll challenges (even after 51 years) are unconstitutional.

Although, several counties have more registered voters than people of voting age.

Huh? How can that be and WHY shouldn't that be allowed to be challenged?

I hope they turn away the cameras as well.

One of your newspapers conducted an investigation and found that @ 27,000 people registered in Ohio are also registered in Florida.

I don't ever want to see someone intimidated from voting, but come on, we should all be able to agree that this BS has to stop.

I think we're LONG overdue for significant voter reform.

I think that each state should compare voter registrations with other states and clean out the duplicates (I know of one person registered in FOUR states). I know it would be a massive undertaking but I think it's essential that it be done in order to get the voting problems to as few as possible.

I know this is a simple comparison (and easily circumvented) but how can someone set up a poll here on the DIS which blocks people from voting twice but we can have a Federal election that lets it happen.
