Michael Jackson This Is It Move, Are you going?

Just got back. It was very interesting, and we all enjoyed it. I wish I'd ever managed to make it to a live concert. I'm telling you, the This is It concert would have been worth every penny. He was an amazing talent, and the concert would have been quite a production. I walked away with a different view on him as a person than I'd had before.

eta: No nutcase lunatic fans at our suburban movie theatre. Just a bunch of boring suburbanites. Although I don't really like someone profitting from his death, I was affected by the content, and am glad I saw it.

This seems to be the consenses from everything I have heard and read. I can't wait to see it. :thumbsup2

Excellent assesment. :thumbsup2 I saw it today too and this just about how I felt. The timing of the release of the movie maybe a little exploitive, but I didn't feel the movie itself was. I thought it was well done, enlightning and tribute to the Michael Jackson the artist. I'm glad I saw it too.

Thanks for the nice opening day reviews:thumbsup2 We are now more excited than before to see it today.

Only mandatory if you are an obsessed loony fan. ;)

:rotfl2:I think some people think if we are going at all we are "obsessed loony fans":lmao: DS10 might almost qualify as that--he knows a ton of dance moves and all the music and is still amd at me for sellign my Thriller jacket at a garage sale when I was 15:rolleyes1 But, he is 10 and was as big a fan before Micahel died as he is now--it is just easier to find videos, music, etc now than ever.

Anyway, we are excited to see it. The profit thing does bother me a bit--however, if his mother has the decency to save most of it for his children (which I hope she does, if he wanted his mother to care for his little ones he must trust her), then I don't really see that it is such a bad thing. Who knows, maybe he would want it this way--with the world seeing what a great talent he was until the very end and still enjoying his music. Know one can really know, ya know? I figure WE would have seen it had it come out while he was living so we will see it regardless. I would not go if the kids just had some sort of morbid fascination with his death.

We will wait for DVD.

As far as the "family cashing in on his death" - aren't profits going to his estate, then to be paid according to his wishes? That would make it seem that the profits from this concert are being spent exactly as they would have been if he were alive to perform - as he wished. Actually, the spending is much more controlled now than it would have been in that situation.

I think, if I remember correctly, that this is an attempt by the concert promoters to recoup some of the money they lost when Michael died and thus the concert was a no go.

I am torn. While I was a Michael fan when I was young and I do feel he was an amazing entertainer, I don't know if I can contribute any money to this venture. My boys want to see it (they didn't know anything about Michael until after his death) but my DH is in the "no way" camp. I would be more apt to say "yes" if this was a philanthropic movie.

DD and I went yesterday and I'd like to offer my viewpoint on it. I will declare that I have owned Jackson albums and been to one live concert (Dangerous tour) but would not ever have called myself a fan, by any means. DD was more or less unaware of him until he died.

I think it would have been a criminal waste if this footage had not been released.

It gives the fans who had tickets a chance to at least get a flavour of the concerts they were looking forward to so much. And it gives people like me the realisation that if the concerts had gone ahead and reports of them had started to come out, I would have been kicking my shins black and blue and trying to get hold of a ticket from WHEREVER, as they were going to be massive!

The 3D film bits they had filmed for the gigs were fabulous, the sets outstanding and the whole thing was just going to be awesome.

(Remember, this is from a non-fan, and I came out of the cinema gushing about how awesome those concerts were going to be.)

The amount of time, effort, talent (and yes, money) that went into developing this should NOT be wasted and it should be out there for people to remember that weirdness and troubles notwithstanding, this man was an entertainment genius.

I heard that he filmed it for his personal archive and so his kids would have a lasting record of what daddy did. I'm sure they will cherish the footage as it shows him doing what he did best.

(Steps down from soapbox, stands for applause in the spotlight, and fade out)

I would agree. I read some interview with I think his sister LaToya or something where she said he would be horrified that this rehearsal footage is being shown because he wasn't giving his "all" as he would have in front of an audience.

However, because of all the reports that came out of him being so sick he needed wheelchairs and would never have been able to come through for the concerts and stuff, well, because of that I think he would have liked his fans to see this to see the truth that he really did still have it and could perform like no other.

I'm looking forward to seeing it!

I would love to go but I am going to spend the money on the DVD when it comes out. I can't wait to see it!

At one point in the film he says something like "excuse me, but I'm conserving my voice" so no, he's not belting it out and going for the top notes like he means it, but he's still pretty good. And he was moving well - he wasn't the person on the verge of death the media were making him out to be.

IMHO I'm glad I saw it on the big screen as the bits that were going to be 3D really stood out. It wasn't actually in 3D, but you could really see the bits that were going to be iykwim.

You actually expressed my thoughts better than I was thinking them!!!

At one point during the movie, I said to my friend "these are some of the best dancers in the world, but they look just well-trained next to him." Or as a critic said this morning, he has more musical expression in his 50 year old left heel than most young people have in their entire body.

I completely agree (except I was always a fan--not a huge groupie kind of fan, but Ialways enjoyed and appreciated his music and dancing and videos).

Maybe we "wailed"--DS did have tears in his eyes at the very end when they put up the love lives forver line:rolleyes1

Anyway--that would have been an amazing concert--worth the steep prices in every way. I agree all the hard work and talent which went into it needed to be shown. I am glad both myself and my children got to see it.
