:sad2:well the text jokes have started, dh has just received one, we dont think this is funny at all, all i can say is sick sick sick :mad:

I agree. I find those texts really distasteful. I have never found any of them remotely funny.

I have thought long and hard about replying to this thread since it started because I am not a fan of MJ the man and cannot pretend to be now....sorry.
I do however think that musically he was a genius and I have fond memories of my oldest daughter glued to the tv watching her videos of him when she was young. He is a great loss to the world of music and I feel that just as most people remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard about Diana and Elvis they will remember this.
I am sooo sorry to all of you that were huge fans of his and obviously my heart goes out to his poor children

It was a UCLA Cardiologist that confirmed his death-that's how TMZ got there info.

I only posted a thread on here earlier about needing a hotel to stay in when i see him in August :sad1:.x.

my sentiments exactly - a tragic man but what an amazing talent.

I don't think anyone could underestimate his contribution to music. Some of his hits form part of the soundtrack to my life. I wasn't a fan, but I could recognise his genius.

:).
I adore the man,have done for 27yrs.
Was'nt being funny with you-just thought your comment was a little harsh-after him dying :goodvibes.x.

:goodvibes:hug: no probs michelle - I know you and monay others adored him and totally respect that. Its like when I was bawling over Princess Di dying and friends of mine thought I was barmy to do so over her and told me so - I know it wasnt personal, their views were just different from mine.

and the text jokes - thats low, I hate that kind of thing.

I am going to put the controversy aside to say i am deeply in shock and in tears over this news. while there is generally no smoke without fire I will say that as a performer no one can ever come close. He changed the face of pop videos with "Thriller", his moonwalk dazzled the world, his back catalogue which most of he wrote himself have been proved popular long past normal sell by date and still selling fast, he still sold out 50 dates at the O2, and i am so honoured to say that I had the privelage of seeing him live in 1997 at Wembley Stadium. and honestly I had never ever seen a perfomance like it. The message he tried to convey was that of a better world and loving each other. He did extensive charity work and raised millions.

so yes he may have been eccentric, he may or may not have done things considered a crime, but put that aside and the performer and music will live on. I was not even a huge fan in recent years but i think it is a very sad night, i am even sadder for his children. no doubt the press and effect will go on for some time and we will hear truths in time and horror stories, but i will always have the music and try to remember him as the legend I idolised as a child and the king of pop I saw on stage.

Hugs to anyone else upset:hug:

It's very sad that he has always tried to protect his children from the media, successfully, so they can live normal lives and now they will be the coveted news story. Who is going to protect them now? Their lives are ruined. :(

omg i have just woken up to this news ........what a shock !!!
RIP Michael Jackson !
and big:hug:to his loving fans x

I've only just heard this news. It's sad, I wasn't really a fan but he was a talented man and liked his earlier music.

I am shocked to wake up to this news. RIP Michael.

 to all his family & fans.

What a shock, a very sad end to a tragic life

And a lesson to all wannabe stars today :sad1:

I was shocked to see this news last night on BBC24 when I went to bed last night, and I still can't believe it

I was a huge MJ fan back in the 80's. My fave album was Off the Wall, and I was lucky enough to see him at Wembley back in the late 80's

It's such a shame that the last 20 years or so he courted controversy, and his music went down hill too

I never thought for one minute that he'd make the O2 concerts this Summer, but never envisaged his untimely death

RIP Michael

Totally agree with you Mandy.

I was reluctant to contribute to this thread as the memory of Michael 's controversal personal life has, in the recent past overtaken his music, for me.
The various "friends" and commentators on TV this morning completely disassociated themselves with him in recent years but now are "close friends" once again. This shows how even people close to him probably used him.
Respect is the key word. When a man walks this earth and he leaves this earth do you think of him as an honorable respected man? I cannot say yes for MJ.

There was something mentally wrong with the man, and he was probably blameless in that after the way he had been treated by his father. Regardless of unproven allegations any grown man in his 30's and 40's that is adamant its okay and natural to want to sleep in a bed with young boys has lost his grasp of what is right and wrong.

I will remember his early music, particularly the Jackson 5 but I cannot forget the allegations, the pay-offs and hurt and pain he has probably caused some children and their families.

I hope he is now at peace.

I'm shocked too, my DH is a big fan of his music and 50 is far too young to die, his poor kids :sad1:

Can't believe I didn't hear about this last night. I was too busy watching Greys Anatomy finale.
Have only just seen it on the breakfast news. What a shock.

Over the years his behaviour had become very strange but I'm with Mandy in that I grew up driving my family mad playing the Off the Wall LP in the 80's. I still have it now. He was part of growing up for me.

Love him or hate him, you have to hope that his children get all the support and love that they need now.

I was not a big fan as many others have said, but I did enjoy Michael Jackson's music whenever it was played. He was truly a musical icon.

Watched in disbelief last night before bed and felt extremely sorry for his family and friends. His fans must be devastated and my heart goes out to them today

R.I.P Michael Jackson - sad day for music!
