Mice Chat: Marvel Studios, Star Wars Land, MyMagic+

The way the new fastpass system is described in that article is a vast improvement over the system in Orlando. It sounds a lot more like a paperless version of the current FP system than the FP+ that's in Orlando. It's nice to see them have the location requirement too. I know these are all rumors at this point, but that kind of fp system may not be the total headache that WDW has now.

Sounds like the 2 fireworks shows per night will only be during holiday times like Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year's.

One thing I was confused about: it said that day visitors and AP holders would not be able to make advanced reservations for FP, just DLR guests, but then can you get FP's with the app once in the parks if you are not a DLR guest?
I know it's just speculation at this point.

From the way the article read, yes, it sounds like DLR hotel guests (and eventually possibly good neighbor hotel guests) will have the ability to book in advance...but the article also said there wouldn't be any 90 day reservation windows (well, 60 days is what it is in Orlando...author should fix that). So what that advanced window will be for hotel guests is unclear.

Maybe it will simply be for the length of your trip, once you arrive on property? Because the article also makes clear that the FP reservations will be made on the app, and that the app will have location restrictions - so you'll have to be on property in order to book FPs. Perhaps for resort guests, they simply need to be anywhere on property in order to book, but day guests/APs will have to be in the park they're booking FPs for?

Regardless, it sounds like a massive improvement over WDW.

I could get behind this plan for FPs. I'd be curious to see how it worked for larger parties, though. One person booking through the app? Everyone has to book their own (wouldn't work for kids)?

Regardless, if they're planning on taking FP reservations through the app, they'd better get cracking installing that park-wide wifi, stat.

I was having similar thoughts - at the moment you can use a FP runner with everyone's tickets to get FPs for all in the party. Not sure how this would be done for families with young kids or larger groups who want to ride together using FP through the app. It does say that paper FP would remain for now so maybe for those families/groups the paper option is still to the way to go.

Are there barcodes on the tickets? Maybe the app could scan each ticket in your party? If I don't have to run around collecting FPs, that would be great!

Isince they are saying mm+ will be part of the system, I imagine it will have the same option to link family and friends all in one account that exists in wdw From that account, fp can be made for everyone. It's just the rules of the fp that will be different in CA.

It seems like there's a way on the app now to scan your AP barcode or ticket in... So maybe with families, the phone-app-holder would be able to scan everyone's ticket on the app, then do FP ressies with that? Hope that makes sense. In other words, I have the app on my phone. I'd scan my ticket, DD's ticket, and DH's ticket, then do FP ressies by connecting them to a specific ticket? It seems like that's essentially how they do the returns for mobility issues now--they take my ticket, add a call-back time to it, and then can see that time when I bring my ticket back at the specific time.

FINALLY..... at least they are trying to come up with a solution to the extremely LONG waiting times to rides!!! Although I love the system @ WDW (I know not popular around here) I just want a better way to deal with this madness that will only get worse when the new Star Wars Land arrives! Yes I am a local and sometimes AP holder but also DVC member so on property reservations will only enhance the system for us. The Mice Chat article says it may begin the system sometime next year so I will be keeping my eye on the progress and or set backs of this. We have not been in the parks since March when our AP's had expired but we are saving $$$ AND our DVC points so when Star Wars Land is COMPLETE we will PLENTY of time with hopefully NO long waiting to ENJOY all the new rides!!!

As much as I think this would be a huge improvement over the WDW system, I wonder if any Disney IT system could withstand the number of hits it will get looking for Star Wars attraction fastpasses at park open once that land is ready to go.

Aloha,

Does anyone have any idea of the closure time frames in 2016 for POC, HM, JC, etc...? First I have read about POC and HM closures in 2016...earlier read rumors about JC. It would be nice to know the closure time frames for planning purposes.

Right?! I'm thinking the IT will start out in "unmitigated disaster" land and it can only get better from there ;)

Thanks for the link OP! It sounds like there is a lot to get excited about for DL in the upcoming years!

I was a little bummed to see that HM, JG, and Soarin' will be closed on our trip in early February, along with the RR, Aladdin, show etc. BUT, I can live with it.

Is it 2019 yet?

Yes.... the thought of this happening does have me a little concerned. It kinda of reminds me of the hassle of Universal Studios in Orlando on how they dealt with the opening of Harry Potter areas. We wanted to spend most of our time there and thought if we buy extra for "Skip the line " perk it could be done with LESS waiting time BUT NO that was not the case. Skip the line was ONLY good for everything EXCEPT for MOST HP rides since they were NEW attractions!!
We had to stand 2 1/2 hours to ride Gringotts !!! Still loved the ride!! There were also LINES to get INTO the little shops although to be fair we did go during Christmas time. I am really hoping Star Wars Land will not be like that BUT if they are giving early morning time & Fast Passes as perks for on property guests
then that may be our BEST option for this POSSIBLE NEW system!!! Hopefully they will work out the kinks for the system & have a GOOD back up plan for overcrowding when the "LAND" is complete.
