I am sure we all have people who we only knew on the internet, either via BB or Chat that one day just sorta became MIA's. I know when I first came online I used to visit a chat site a lot and a group of us became pretty close but slowly but surely one by one, for whatever reason, someone would stop coming and eventuetly they were all gone. I often wonder about some of them, how they are doing etc. but I have no way of getting in touch. Is this one of the "dangers" of on line friendships??

I guess it is. There are a number of former DISers I wonder about. We have a nice group but sometimes you hanker for a certain brand of humor. LOL.

We all have to move on sometime...

We were talking about that at Fulcer-Con. Dan Murphy was telling us of a few people. even some moderators, who were just gone and noone knows what happened to them!

It's more than likely just a matter of real life intruding and not enough time for online activities. I'm sure I'm a MIA in some circles and I know that's what happened to me.

Before I moved to Richmond 4 years ago I was fairly heavy into the Highlander tv show fandom -- regular in AOL chat, posted on the AOL boards and the newsgroup, etc.

I became MIA after I met my then-soon-to-be DW. I've thought about contacting some of them and saying hi, but I wonder how awkward that would be. Three years of no contact and all of a sudden they hear from me?

Of course, a lot of internet MIAs probably feel the same way.

I have to agree with Obi....real life often times gets in the way. It is hard when you connect with someone and learn a little about their life and they learn about you, but life happens and often there isn't enough time for everything and generally the Internet life is the one that gets left behind.

I used to mIRC alot before I came here. Slowly real life took over, interests changed, people I chatted with left, my computer crashed, etc. etc. etc.

Recently I downloaded the program again and went into my old chat room. Alot has changed in the two years since I was there, but there were still alot of the same people in that chat room and they were very happy to see me.

I've popped in a few times since then. It's not the same as it was when I quit going there two years ago, but still kind of fun.

I suppose that is the nature of the internet. People come and go. Right now, I'm here on the DIS, who knows what tomorrow will bring?

You'll still be here, Kath! What would we do without your dancing Daisy Duck??? :p

I was just reminded about a message board I used to frequent and made so many great friends. It was a site for people with a disease I thought I had. After I was diagnosed to NOT have it I stopped going there. Hmmm, I guess it's the same with everything, there's a season for it.
