Anyone know how long it takes to drive to Miami from Kissimmee via the Florida Turnpike. We did this in 1990 and seem to remember it took 5 hours - not the most scenic route, but probably the quickest! What are the alternatives - down the East Coast and back up the West Coast?

As Miami is roughly 230 miles away it really depends on how fast you want to drive. I think 3 and a half to four hours is a reasonable estimate. You could travel via I-95 though this would take a bit longer.

We are flying into Miami this year and spending one night, there then, and 2 more at the end of the hols. Our first morning our body clocks are always out and we wake up really early, so we are planning on starting the drive then, stopping for breakfast somewher, we don't mind pulling off the beaten track if someone wants to recomend a good stop, and then arriving in the disney world area at our leisure, being the only driver I did not want to walk off the plane straight into a car and another 4hour drive!

Think it was about 4 hours for us as well, roughlly about $12 You get a ticket when you go onto the turnpike then just pay when you come off as you will know.

We did this in August. If you stick to the speed limit then it will take you roughly 4 hours (bear in mind that, in August, there were loads of roadworks around the airport in Miami that took at least 30 minutes to navigate).

We have done this a few times now, and usually takes us around 3-4 hours (but we usually have at least one stop on the way).

The Florida Turnpike isn't a bad road and from what I can remember the signposting is also good.

Has anyone driven to Miami having got of DCL at Port Canaveral? We're doing it this summer & wondering how long it should take & if anyone has any route suggestions?

TIA

Celestine

regarding the alternatives, there is a scenic route along the east coast...i think it's called route 1....but it will take longer than the turnpike...

Miami up to WDW is well signed.

Just be careful on the way back... we were driving merrily on our way and I see the little plane on the exit sign and off the turnpike we get. However in the US airports are everywhere and this was the wrong one! :rotfl:

We couldn't find our way back to the turnpike somehow and after going through some not so great neighbourhoods (witnessing a police chase) got to Miami in the nick of time!

Hahahahahahaaaa...the same thing happened to us.....we ended up in not so good neighbourhood it was only when someone whom we stopped and asked the directions from at a local parade of shops told us.....now we now when we rolled down our window to ask directions we were ignored!!!
