for our trip in october, we were thinking of going down to miami and stopping overnight there.
Anyone recommend anywhere to stay??
Thanks

I've always fancied the Fontainebleau myself! Never stayed there (so feel free to ignore this!) but it's where I would stay if I went to Miami :)

I like the South Beach "Art Deco" district of Miami. There are dozens of small "boutique" hotels in that area as well as some large well known hotels. Jana and I stayed here http://www.richmondhotel.com last Christmas and we both really liked the hotel. Very friendly staff, reasonable rooms ( our room only had one queen sized bed so if you're more than 2 people you should check they have rooms with two beds in, many of the boutique hotels only sleep 2 people) a great pool area and an excellent location (right on the beach and a few minutes walk from the bars and restaurants on Ocean Drive. I usually use http://www.hotwire.com to book rooms around the US, you don't know the hotel until after you commit to the booking, but I've found it's by far the best way to get a cheap deal.

If you want to spoil yourselves here's a few of the more upmarket hotels in the area http://www.loewshotels.com/hotels/miamibeach/default.asp

If you're just looking for somewhere to stay for one night to get a feel for the place I'd go the hotwire.com route, even if you get a less than perfect hotel ( I've never been disapointed using hotwire) it's only a night and you're only sleeping there :D. The posh hotels all look wonderful, but if you wouldn't get the chance to enjoy the facilities I'd view it as a bit of a waste.

personally, if i had to choose one place in the US other than orlando to visit, i'd head for Manhattan...
i'm not a big fan of miami....or any of florida for that matter....
i'd never set foot in the state if not for the fact that the mouse lives there....
lots of much more interesting and beautiful places to visit than florida.......

already been to manhattan..
but thought as were in florida 4 the 2 weeks miami would be a change!!

Were stopping four nights in Miami (hopefully) next week.

Three nights at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay and one at the Intercontinental.

Never been before but will report back and let you know what we think.

Netty, Miami is on my to-do list also. If you go I would love to hear all about it :)
