We are taking a January cruise on the Dream. There was a significant price difference for us to fly into MIA for our cruise versus FLL. (We are flying home out of FLL, as the MIA flights don't work for our schedule)

So we fly in a day early to MIA in the early afternoon. Wanting to hear peoples opinions on just staying near the MIA airport in a hotel, and taking an Uber from the hotel to Port Everglades the morning of the cruise? Or would you land in MIA and travel to Port Everglades area first, and then Uber to port in the morning? Thinking it might be nice to just get to a hotel, and let the kids get some pool time versus a 3.5 hour flight, and then a 45 minute car ride. (But its a 45 minute car ride form the airport when we go to WDW, so not that big of a difference I guess...)

Thoughts?

We have sailed from Miami a few years ago, but flew into Fort Lauderdale Aiport. We took an Uber from Fort Lauderdale Airport to a hotel close to the Port of Miami as we like to be close to the port. There was traffic from the airport to the hotel, but once we got to the hotel we relaxed.
It's really a matter of preference and what will work for you. You have children so your thoughts on staying near the airport can be more convenient for you. Have a wonderful cruise!!!

I always like to be closer to the port but as mentioned it is just personal preference.

Just did this for a recent cruise. Flew into MIA -> Tri-Rail to Fort Lauderdale for about ~$4 per person -> Uber'd from Tri-Rail station to hotel.

If you value the pool time after flying in, then stay in/around MIA. I personally like to be as close to the departure port as possible as soon as possible, but that's just me 😅

It can be too cold in January for pool time, it will just depend if a cold front is coming through. If pool time is important make sure the pool is heated at the hotel as not as many are down here. Hollywood beach would be a great place to stay the night, you can enjoy the beach and a pool and it has a broad walk that has no cars along the beach where you can rent surrey bikes to ride on. There’s lots of restaurants along the broad walk too. For big hotels there is a Marriott and a Margaritaville hotel, otherwise it’s a lot of small mom and pop motels. You could take the tri rail to the Sheridan street station in Hollywood and an uber down to the beach hotel.
