Well, FINALLY we have a house...booked, deposit paid, all set. After the disappointment of having two other houses fall through, I'm just happy the stress is behind me, :rotfl2:

It is a gorgeous house...and the owners are wonderful....friendly, helpful, patient :cheer2: and to top it off turns out that they homeschooled their kids (now adults)....so we have something in common too!

They use a management company Alexander & Associates and I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with them before.....any tips, problems, praises, etc. It won't change my mind about this home, but it never hurts to know about the mgmt company we'll be dealing with! Luckily they're about 3 miles from the home so picking up the key will be very convenient.

Thanks to everyone who held my hand (especially you Ted!) while I went through this process.

I haven't heard of them but if you like the owners and have a good relationship with them I am sure you will be fine!

The first time I stayed in a rental home it was from them. The home was clean and we had no problems.

My mom picked it and I would have done things different but it was fine.

What I would have done different just so you have an idea
TV's in all rooms
game systen for kids
spa
the little extras thats all the home and vacation was the best and still remember it well.

Well, I think those extras have more to do with the home/homeowners than with the mgmt company. The home we're staying at has Tv's in the bedrooms, but they aren't the fancy flat panel or the huge size, but that's fine with me.....I have a 19" in my bedroom at home, but mostly only watch the News before bed on it, maybe a movie that I usually fall asleep watching, lol. Our living room TV is a 25" but it's also pretty old. We're just not TV type people, nor do my kids have or even know how to play a game system, so again, that's not something that would matter to me......but I totally understand how for some that could be important.

Our house has a pool and spa...though going in Jan/Feb I'm not convinced that we'll be using it much, though I did go ahead pay for the heat since it was only $200 for the whole month.

This house struck us as perfect because the photos were beautiful and the house looked comfortable. Some of the homes we viewed were like something out of a magazine....and I just know I'd worry every minute about something happening to all that wood and leather and berber carpet. Our house is decorated in a style that we're used to living in, not shabby, not fancy....but a house to "live" in as my husband puts it. The kitchen is smaller than mine at home, but even though we'll be there a month, I don't plan to be cooking big meals and definitely no parties!

Another amentity that was important to me.....parking the car in a garage. Many of the homes we viewed had converted the garage into a "game room" complete with pool table, foosball, even video arcade style games. That's just not us, and I really feel better coming home late at night and driving into the garage and closing the door behind me. And the neighborhood has a security guard on duty. I called the local police to be sure this wasn't a sign of a problem, and the police don't report the area as crime ridden, so that's another plus for me, since the girls and I will be alone most of the month with my husband only visiting for a little more than a week.

Another thing that didn't matter as much to me was location....now it turns out that it's about 7 miles away, and I was looking at places as far as 20 miles away....but I know for some that 7 miles is still too far. I drive all over the valley here in Phoenix....so it doesn't phase me, in fact, I can't think of many errands/events that we do at home that are only 7 miles away, so it'll be a treat! Yet I know for many they'd not even look at this house because it wasn't in the 4 communities that are able to see/hear/feel and occasionally get fall out from the fireworks :lmao: When we were at DisneyLAND we stayed at a hotel across the street once and our first night there we went to bed just before the fireworks started. I'd just drifted off when "bang bang" and I woke with a start and fear that there was a gunman outside, lol....until a peek out the window revealed the bright colored lights.

So...it's really all a matter of what's important to you in a home. For me, it's privacy and safety first and foremost....comfort a close second, and the amenties a bit further behind.

I've pretty much assured myself that these nice of people would never have a scary mgmt company.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :cheer2:

We went with them last year and had no problems we loved our stay.
We booked through them again for next Feb.
Which home/place did you pick?
I have nothing but happy memories going through with them last time so don't worry. And Enjoy your trip.:)

Thanks so much....we picked a 4 bedroom in Chatham Park owned by the Brydens. We'll be there from Jan 10 to Feb 11.

We have rented homes through them three different times and had great luck. I agree about the garage thing, we'd rather have parking privileges than a pool table! In the last home we rented we actually pushed the pool table to the side of the garage and used it for our vehicle. (it wasn't really a "game room" with any other games, so we weren't messing it up) The only thing I don't like about renting through Alexander and Associates is that we had to drive to their office to get the keys to the homes. Maybe they have changed that in the last couple years? I love being able to pre-pay the owners and get a code for a lockbox on the home.

Thanks...it really helps hearing positives about them, since if there any problems we'll have to deal with them first before calling the owner (which I won't hesitate to do if mgmt can't/won't resolve an issue).

You do still have to pick up the keys from their office (and they have a night lock box which frankly worries me!)...but the office is about 3 miles from the house so for us it's not a big deal. I imagine some other locations it might be more of a pain. The instructions they sent me for "after hours" lock box worries me about security....it gives the code to get into the box and then says to take the envelope with our name on it and inside will be keys and directions to the house! I'm wondering what would stop someone who has used the lock box a year ago, a month ago, etc from taking the keys and directions and getting to the house before we do (after all if we arrive and there are no keys for us in the lock box we'd have to wait until morning to resolve it, so that would give many hours for someone to steal everything in the house....tv's furniture, whatever). Ok, so I tend to think that everyone around me is a potential criminal, lol.....occupational hazard.......but still. I intend to tell them to NOT put my keys in the box.....we actually rented it starting the night before we want the keys anyway (we did a monthly rental so the 1 day didn't make any difference in price and we're staying in Tampa with Grandma after our 7pm flight arrives...we'll get the key bright and early the next morning).

I know how you feel I worry about everything and this is one thing I just mentioned to my dh a couple days ago. In the past we arrived when they were open but next year we arrive the Sunday before Presidents day so It won't be open the day we arrive and probably the day after so if our keys are gone or there is any other problem with getting into our place then that is 2 days of our trip messed up.
But as I said before as for the company keeping their places clean and as shown on the descriptions (online) they are very good. What I like a lot about this company unlike all others I've looked into is that you don't have to pay much upfront and the cancelation fee is not much.
We'll hope for the best.
