At MGM, your choices are limited. I would rank them as follows:
(1) Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant
(2) 50's Prime Time Café
(3) Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano
(4) Hollywood & Vine
(5) Hollywood Brown Derby
Disclaimer: The only reason for ranking Brown Derby 5th is (1) our children are still small and I don't think they would enjoy it, (2) I can't see using 2 TS credits for one meal because there are so many other great locations that are 1 TS. I am just too frugal. If we were to eat there, I would pay OOP. Perhaps my opinion would change if I had ever eaten there.
We always eat at 50's Prime Time Cafe. You eat in 'Mom's' kitchen and are served by Cousin Brother or some other 'family' member. It's a lot of fun and some of the best food on property. Great pot roast and fried chicken. Scj-fi definitely has its fans. And Hollywood and Vine is the choice if you want a buffet.
We dis Sci-Fi once, it was unique however I have no desire to go again. We did Prime Time last summer and loved it We plan on going to Prime Time again this July.
I haven't eaten at Sci-Fi in years but unless things have changed you sit in fake cars and all seats face forward in rows watching movies. Keep that in mind in case you wanted to sit in a circle and talk to the people you are with.

I have to admit that I have not eaten at Mama Melrose's or Hollywood and Vine, but I have heard good things about Mama Melrose's and most buffets at WDW are pretty good, IMO.
The Brown Derby is the ONLY restaurant in MGM that I have enjoyed on a constant basis, but it is 2 TS credits . All the other 2 TS restaurants kick butt on the Brown Derby. 50's Prime Time Cafe was terrible and the Sci-Fi Diner was even worse!
We ate at Sci-Fi last week and had a lot of fun Like someone else said, the seating doesn't exactly encourage conversation, but it was really different and fun. My kids had a blast and I would do it again.
When we are at MGM, which we try to limit our time b/c it is the park with the least activities, we eat at the Brown Derby. (We never use the DDP because we stay off-property, so the 2 credits isn't an issue.) The food is not as good as other Disney restaurants but it is the best at MGM. The food was decent at 50's prime time, but if anyone is even slightly shy they won't appreciate the "antics." And Mama Melrose was the worst. We considered ourselves lucky to not leave with food poisoning.
We enjoy HBD. It's a nice place to take a break during the heat of the day, and while it's elegant inside, you feel just fine in your shorts and T's. On one of our trips in Jan. 06, most of us weren't too hungry for lunch and the waiter let some of us (3 adults) order off the kid's menu. It was just the right size portion of chicken, and left us with room for dessert, later. My DM really enjoys the Cobb salad and last Sept. we went to MGM just so she could order it. We were on DDP, so while it wasn't the best use of 2 TS, it was a very good meal, nice and leisurely, good service, including singing "Happy Birthday" to DD7. (See pix in signature below)
Prime Time - great food, great service, great fun
Mama Melroses - I liked the food and it's tucked away
Sci Fi - its a fun atmosphere, but gets old after the movies re run
Brown Derby - over priced, over rated and noisy IMHO
