MGM Studios has been renamed!!

It'll always be MGM to me, has a much nicer 'ring' to it...Disney's Hollywood Studio's...just doen't sound right :confused3

I agree, it's also easier to use and recognize the acronym when making trip notes. MGM just means 'movies' in the American vernacular, while DHS sounds more like some high school's initials.

It will always be MGM they tried this before, but if they need something new how about
TTPFKAMGM = The Theme Park Formerly Known As MGM

AHHH! They must stop with all the Pixar! I LOVE Pixar, but it just seems that the Pixar movies are all that anyone cares about anymore! Finding Nemo especially. Ugh. That movie was so over-hyped it made me not like it when I saw it. And it's NOT a bad movie, I just didn't understand what all the fuss was about.

I also wish they would just name it Disney Studios. But I don't think I'll ever stop referring to it as MGM. Maybe in about 10 years, once it's been drilled into my brain.

Anyway.. rant over!

Initial guest reaction to proposed changes at WDW is usually met with the dragging of heels but in the end everyone adjusts and life goes on. After all, practically nobody ever refers to ADRs by the old PS (priority seating) acronym any more. And if they did, many folks wouldn't know what they were talking about. Epcot is not commonly referred to as Epcot Center even by the old-timers. In a few years time, asking folks at the resort bus stops if the MGM bus has come yet, will, in all likelihood, get nothing but blank stares in answer to the question.

So Disney Hollywood Studios it is. And the beat goes on...

Even though they are changing the name, they are going to find that many people will still refer to it as "Disney's MGM Studios". I just called it MGM...now i'll call it Hollywood.

dont like the name change, but it is a park in need of a major overhaul, I'll have to check out the info :thumbsup2

:confused3

wow...that was completely exciting news....not :lmao:

aside from already knowing about the toy story ride and the new parade coming, nothing else they announced sounds even remotely interesting..bummer

You can't teach an old dog new tricks and to me, like many other DISers, it will always be MGM. Why in the world (no pun intended) is there a necessity to change the name? After all, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow never came to fruition and yet is has always remained, EPCOT. And what was wrong with Dixie Landings?

Well, let us not forget that Walt himself didn't want his first name included in the name Disney World. It was only after he passed away that his brother Roy insisted that it be called Walt Disney World.

And Walt Disney Studios is already the name of the studio complex in Burbank, CA. It would be too confusing to have a similar-sounding name for the theme park.

As opposed to say Universal Studios - Florida? We're not morons. To be perfectly honest, I don't care what the heck they call the place as long as they take down that darn hat! They heard us regarding the wand, now let's get them to remove the eyesore in front of the Chinese Theater!

Regards

MGM flows much better to me, too. Plus, DHS is our child social services initials! I'm foster caring for three little ones and the system stinks here in Oregon. Oh well, maybe Disney will put a sweet thought in my mind each week I deal with the offices!

No more MGM (Mickey Gets Money).

They are going to have to change a WHOLE LOT of those purple road signs on Disney World property. Not to mention maps, brochures, guidebooks and the park entrance itself.

I'm glad I took lots of pictures. Same with the Epcot wand.

Hopefully the name change will bring about big changes in the park-- my least favorite (and most DISers according to polls posted here).

Funny about name changes. They never stick with some people. Our supermarket went from Shop N' Save to Hannaford at least ten years ago and I just heard a lady on her cell saying "Yeah, I'm at Shop N' Save right now"

I'm very pleased with the new name. If nothing else, it signals that the park theming, inspired by many actual structures in 20s / 30s Hollywood, will not be shoved aside in favor of the latest fad.

Disney Hollywood Studios is much better than Disney / Pixar Studios, Disney / ABC Studios or any other name that has crossed the rumor mill in recent years.

MGM was little more than a recognizable Hollywood brand that Disney slapped on the park as part of its initial plan to compete with USF.

Oh and can someone explain this line:

"Toy Story Mania!
Your Clients can get sporty in a new, interactive “Toy Story” competition..."

The press release was probably composed by an outside PR firm. When they used the phrase "your clients" they were referring to Disney's clients (park guests.) It was a contextual mistake that slipped through proofreading.

Or maybe that part was originally composed as part of a press release to travel agencies. :upsidedow

Notice in your example that they added the word "Florida" to differentiate from California. The original comment was that the name should be changed to "Walt Disney Studio," not "Walt Disney Studio - Florida." The former would have been confusing. The latter would be fine, IMHO.

BTW - They were wise enough to differentiate when they opened "Walt Disney Studios Park" in Paris. The name is similar to the Burbank studio, but that extra word sets them apart.
