MGM Studios has been renamed!!

I'm just going to pretend that hollywood isn't there and call it Disney Studios. I'll be sure to buy a shirt and a shot glass that says MGM Studios on it when I'm there this fall.

Haven't they been trying (unsuccessfully in my book) to call it Disney Studios (no Hollywood) for some time now????

Back in 2000 I was a CP. While I went though training, I was told when referring to Disney-MGM Studios to guests, use either it's full name, Disney Studios or just The Studios, but NEVER as just MGM. I worked at MK and never had to refer to the park, but it has always been MGM to me. I tried so hard saying "The Studios" to my family, but they never accepted it either.

Disney's Hollywood Studios??????
Disney-Pixar Studios might be better.

Glad they dropped the MGM, but not sure I like the new name. Maybe just Disney Studios would have been better. Hollywood is in the OTHER state!

I'm with others and think Disney Studios would have been OK. Hollywood just sounds wrong.

Whatever - I, many of you, and I'm sure most others will always call it MGM.

Yuck! I don't like that! I hope they don't change the themeing and make it "new Hollywood". Then you'll have anorexic teen celebrities running around drunk in the parks instead of the usual street characters we've come to know and love!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

BTW, DH would appreciate your signature pic. ::Boy Meets World theme song playing in my head::

Disney's Hollywood Studios doesn't roll off the tongue quite like Disney Studios..maybe they'll change their mind?

 Too funny! Maybe they could put in a replica of the seedy stretch of Sunset Blvd, complete with the Disney princesses dressed up as, shall we say, ladies of the night? ;)

At disneyland resort paris the movie park is called "walt disney studios" this is often refered to on signs and merchandise as "walt disney studios - paris" why not rename disney-mgm studios as "walt disney studios" or "walt disney studios - florida"

the backstory to the artist formerly known as Disney-MGM is a tribute to Hollywood summed up with the tagline 'the Hollywood that never was and always will be.' it was always meant to be Hollywood regardless of the name. when you consider the timeline the park takes place in, there really only was Hollywood when it came to movies. the fact that it's some 3000 miles away is technically irrelevant.

MGM was a good partner for that theming. MGM used to be a movie powerhouse. it's been barely breathing in decades.

i might be mistaken, but i don't believe Disney Studios Paris has that connection (other than studio 1, which is more like a miniature version of Disney-MGM). to me, it even makes little sense that LMA takes place on parisian streets in DLP. that part actually makes more sense in orlando.

I like the new name. It reminds me of watching Otto Von Bonn Bahn directing Dorma Nesmond in "Love Me, Love Me, Love Me" while standing on Hollywood Blvd. in front of Hollywood 5&10 and wondering if I should grab a bite at Hollywood and Vine or head to that big ride in the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

One of the reasons I love the park so much is that it reminds me so much of the "Old Hollywood" I've been fascinated by since I was little. Those skinny little celebutantes aren't Hollywood to me and never will be.

I might be in the minority here, but I kinda like the name. As bradk alluded to, when I think of The Studios, I think of a park based on the golden age of Hollywood, and not what it has become. So Disney's Hollywood Studios actually makes me think of that era of film. But again, I'm probably in the minority.

The set in LMA isnt a parisian village, its a mediterranean village. it represents villages in spain, italy etc where a lot of old hollywood films were made on location. they explain this in pre-show of LMA in paris.

I can't wait for the meet and greets with Handy Manny! DS loves him! I also love that they are re-doing Playhouse Disney to the stuff that they actually show on that channel now! I could care less about the name change -- I think it is silly. It will always be MGM to me!

I was hoping they would change it to....

"The disney/PIXAR Studio Adventure Park".

:rolleyes1

sorry, i stand corrected. i was under the impression that the sets were the same at both DLP and MGM. the sets at MGM, according to Disney are based on streets in Villefranche-sur-Mer specfically, in france.

I do know DLP's set was taken almost literally from a real street (as per the Inside Disney Studios Paris show). whether it's the same or not, i'm not sure.

i shouldn't have called it parisian though. but it is french.

my underlying point though is that in the US, that's exotic. it's not really the far away place you might imagine being portrayed in a big studio in France.

the hollywood tower of terror is currently under construction at walt disney studios paris (due to open jan 2008) they're also constructing a hollywood street around it, simmilar to the entrance of mgm (sorry - disney hollywood studios!) when completed this section of the park is due to be renamed "hollywood studios"

also the soundstages of walt disney studios paris are themed as mediterranean studios, so the mediterreanean vllage of LMA fits this perfectly.

if not "walt disney studios florida" what about "WALT disneys hollywood studios" i think walt should be included in the name, honouring his contribution to classic hollywood.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I think the new is fine and fits perfectly well. After all it is a park that is a tribute to Holloywood and is designed to look like Hollywood. There is nothing Disney about MGM, so I think this works better anyway.

As for Hollywood, FL...no offense to the fine people of Hollywood, FL, but when I hear "Hollywood", even in the middle of Florida, I think of Hollywood, CA. There's a Paris in Texas, but when my wife says she wants to go there, I don't think she's talking about a 12 hour drive down I-20.

I will probably always call it MGM.

same here....although in 10 years the newbies will shaking their heads at us, like we all do at the people who think Disney World is just the MK, and Epcot is a separate entity! :rotfl2:
I agree with ChipnDale though...I think it should be Walt Disney Studio or Disney Studio. It seems like the more time passes, the less Walt is included...

For those who are now referring to The Studios under it's new name as DS this acronym already has several related disney meanings on these boards as well as some others as Darling or Disney Son or in some cases as The Disney Store. So I vote for using the already mentioned DHS or HS. Can't use DSF for Disney Studios Florida either as that acronym already refers to The Disney Soda Fountain in LA. BTW I noticed earlier today that I finally made it to Disney Veteran status on these boards. WOO HOO!
