MGM Studios has been renamed!!

the name and content were all separate contracts. as it is, wizard of oz is NOT owned by Sony/MGM, it's owned by Warner Brothers I believe.

DHS / HS now added to my acronyms database. any others?
MAW - lots of people use it for Make a Wish. I dunno if you want to add that or not. ??

Is MGM going to Uni??

well i meant other acronyms for DHS, but you're right, MAW was missing and should be in there, thanks :)

i don't think MGM isn't going anywhere, least of all Universal. it's owned by Sony (who also owns Paramount) and given the track record of Paramount parks, I don't think you'll be buying a ticket for an MGM theme park any time soon.

plus MGM isn't exactly a hollywood powerhouse anymore. it used to be, which is why it fit with the theming of Disney-MGM studios, but other than bad queen latifah movies nowadays, it's barely edging out New Line in the market share as per boxofficemojo.com

To me, DHS sounds like a delivery service. Or maybe a disease. "I'm sorry, ma'am, but you have DHS. I will have to give you some ointment to clear that up."

well the delivery service is DHL..

DHS is however the Department of Homeland Security.

which makes me wonder given the lighting refurb the hat is getting if it will glow in the appropriate terror alert level.

I'm bummed that they are now saying summer of 2008 for Toy Story Mania, I thought they had said Spring before and was really hoping ot would be open for my April trip:sad2:

Oop. Duh. :headache:

I am kinda hoping everyone uses DS instead of HS or DHS. Easier to type is all.

Maybe we should vote. :rotfl:

It's owned by Turner Classic Movies, which is owned by Turner Broadcasting System who merged with Time Warner. This puts TCM under the same corporate umbrella as Warner Bros. Hope that helps! :)

So were we. The new name has no ring. Everything seems to be going "Hollywood". Oh well, it'll grow on me. Sometime...in the future.

I don't like the name at all. Maybe they should open another park in Hollywood and call it Disney Orlando Studios. Makes about as much sense.

oh, okay. i dunno, i was going by wikipedia who says WB acquired all rights in 1998
1939-1986:
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (all rights)
1986-1997:
MGM (video)
Turner Entertainment (TV and theatrical)
1998-present:
Warner Bros. (all rights)

although the website ( http://thewizardofoz.warnerbros.com ) copyright does say both Turner and WB, so technicalities there I guess

actually, my first reaction to it was Hollywood, Florida?

I think it's because most of the rides and shows are based on Hollywood stuff? I mean take a look at "The Hollywood Tower Hotel", that suits the new park name. But I can just picture it "Mommy let's go to Hollywood today!!". Actually I like the name...hmm...it's grown on me.

You beat me to it! I was just about to post about the new name change. It just showed up on the DisneyLink I have installed on my PC. Anyways, I like the new name. Better then MGM Studios. Although I would have just been happy with Disney Studios.

DHS is also the acronym for Department of Human Services.

I agree, it'll have to grow on me. Kinda makes you wonder if Crofton's gonna actually do some good, or run things into the ground?

When people say "Hollywood", I tend to think of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, on a drunken tear, getting publicity for being stupid little rich girls. Oh well...

But, we all must remember, All those Disney Channel shows you love? They aren't exactly filmed in Orlando........they're part of the LA/Burbank/Hollywood monster, too.

Yuck! I don't like that! I hope they don't change the themeing and make it "new Hollywood". Then you'll have anorexic teen celebrities running around drunk in the parks instead of the usual street characters we've come to know and love!

you know what just occurred to me.. the last 2 parks to open:

Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's California Adventure

now Disney's Hollywood Studios

i wonder if we'll soon see Disney's Magic Kingdom, Disney's Epcot Nahtacenter and Disney's Disney Land
