MGM resturant ideas

That depends.... are you traveling with kids, looking for lunch/ dinner, fancy/ casual?
Anyway, I like the burgers and shakes at the Sci-Fi for lunch.:goodvibes

Oh, and, welcome to the DIS!

Welcome to the Dis! Hollywood Studios lacks in food as far as we are concerned. But our order of preference (and only places we will eat) are:
Mama Melrose, 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi (which is a last resort).

You can take the boat to the EPCOT resorts and have a much bigger selection to choose from!:goodvibes

I've only eaten at Sci-Fi and ABC Commissary, Sci-Fi was really good but avoid the commissary at all costs, that was just gross.

for a nice sit-down, the brown derby (love the cobb salad and grapefruit cake! and when they have the crabcakes, get them, too!)

i love love love the sci-fi (dark, cool, sit in cars, watch movie screen - what's not to love?!) for cheeseburgers, fries and a shake

my DH loves the theming at 50s (and the pot roast, too!)

Prime Time 50's was very good. Great fried chicken and pot roast mmmm.
The waitress like to (in a fun way) give you a hard time, like, "take your elbow off the table, eat your vegis" and so on. Also, theres the Fantasmic package, you get priority seating for the show after you eat. (dinner)

Totally agree. The commissary was disgusting. We gave it two tries too and ordered different things each time, so it wasn't just a "bad experience."
The Sci-Fi however is a favorite, must-do every trip. The food is sort of average, but tasty enough and the atmosphere is amazing.
I liked 50's Prime Time Cafe too, but I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie which wasn't exactly phenomenal, but the decor is so genuinely '50s that it's so fun to eat there in the midst of it all. Our waiter was awesome because he didn't pick on us too much (:woohoo: ), but we got to watch him interact with other people which was fine and quite interesting.
I didn't think very higly of Mama Melrose, my spaghetti came out cold.

So out of the 3 TS places I've been to at DHS, Sci-Fi is my favorite.

Do not go to Hollywood and Vine, it is a typical buffet with tons of little kids! I do not mind kids do not get me wrong, i love to see how happy disney makes them, but when sitting less than 3 feet, and that is not an exaggeration our tables were more than neighbors, it was like they just joined your family, and the screaming 3 yr. old too! It was awkward because it was like they were in on your convo and the same for them. The food was lukewarm too, it was just a bad experience!

My picks for Disney Hollywood Studios are:

1. Mama Melroses
2. 50PT
3. Hollywood Brown Derby

I haven't tried Sci-Fi because I'd rather get on the boat and head over to Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club for a burger, fries, and ice cream....

I also agree with Belleatheart, avoid H&V. We went right before the changeover to the character experience, but the food and service were horrible. The food was so bad that we actually left hungry. I got a little bit of everything, and tried tasting little bits of each. Even the desserts were bad. The "food" was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out all day.

As for ABC Commissary, we have been there many times, but we always get the burger and fries, and it is... a burger and fries... I'm not sure what ppl are getting that is disgusting (although as I recall the menu, some of the things up there didn't look very appetizing as a quick service meal)...

50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi are 2 of my favorite restaurants anywhere on Disney property! Food is yummy and atmosphere can't be beat!:thumbsup2

We always hit Sci-Fi, but only because of the atmosphere! The food wasn't great the last time we ate there. We tried Moma Melrose for the first time back in September and really loved it! The food was fantastic and it was nice and quiet. I will be scheduling dinner there again!

50' is good too! Not my favorite, but it was good.

Love 50 Prime Time
Brown Derby was good - small children with us were bored
Sci Fi - okay food - kids loved it
We are trying Mama Melrose this May

My picks: Sci Fi, (drive in style food- yum yum burgers and shakes)
Primetime (lots of fun w/ your new "family" & great chicken)

not a big fan of mama melrose- they have better food at toy story pizza-

imO: DHS needs another restaurant (or two) as it lacks a GREAT restaurant for all ages.

Anything but 50's!! YUK!!! Nothing was good but the worst was the root vegetable hash, by far!! DH thought I had lost my mind for picking such an awful place!!! We will NOT be going back!!!

Oh no! I'm sad you didn't enjoy 50's PT, it's one of my favs!

I've been going there since I was a kid, and the reason behind why I enjoy it so much might have something to do with nostalgia but it's popular nonetheless.

It has a great atmosphere and the waiters/waitresses really make the experience!

Favorites for us are 50's PTC for a more casual experience and Brown Derby for a nicer meal.

If you are not traveling with small children then The Brown Derby would be my choice. It is one of my favorite restaurants on property.

Then the order I would go in

50's Prime Time
Mama Melrose
Sci-Fi (but the atmosphere is cooler than Mama's)

Hollywood & Vine has good food for a buffet, but for lunch it is a character meal.

Sci-Fi is my choice as well esp if you have kids. My son loved eating in the cars and even the movie clips. Avoid the backlot too! We had an aweful meal there.
