Hi,

Well, the kids marching band trip schedule is out, and now we know that we'll be celebrating New Years Eve at MGM. So, tell me about it - how crowded was it? Where is the best place to see the fireworks? Any tips for seeing the Osbourne lights?

I'm all ears (to coin a phrase :teeth: !)

The crowds are out of this world. Be prepared. I would normally suggest watching the Epcot fireworks for holidays but, MGM's NYE show as better than Epcot's this year....bigger and longer. However , nobody beats Epcot for July 4.

Anyways, be prepared. It's heavy heavy heavy. I basically look at it like this........if you are not someone who likes to wait VERY long times for attractions, just go to enjoy the park itself and dont plan on doing many rides (unless you get there early).

This year at Epcot at 9:00 pm the line for Soarin was 2 hours. They had CM's standing outside to keep people from even going into the building it was so crowded. They were out front shouting "2 hour wait for soarin" to turn people away from going in to see how long the wait time was.

Oh, crowded, I expect. We were at Epcot for NYE 2 years ago, and it was insane. That's why I'm wondering about MGM. I've never been there for any fireworks except Fantasmic. Are the New Years Eve ones different? Can you see them from other places?

Yes, the New Years Eve fireworks are a variation on Sorcery in the Sky and it's a fireworks show that is around the Great Movie Ride (details from 2006 New Years here: http://mgmstudios.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=2511) and you can see it from anywhere in the park. A great tip is to actually see it outside the exit of the park (as in parking lot) to avoid the crowds. I think in a perfect world, you'd be on the Sounds Dangerous side of Echo lake to see them or right down Hollywood Blvd.
