Mexico's River of Time

I don't know how I will feel about the change...I always enjoyed the ride , especially the volcano.... But if the change is anything like the Journey to Imagination change..I am not hopeful......

Thanks Nascar for the video idea...I just searched and found a GREAt video of the original Journey ride....it was fantastic...

It's worse than the Journey to Imagnination change. I rode it to see it, next time I'm just going into Mexico to shop. It would've been much better if they just gave Rio de Tiempo a good refurbbing.

We did the ride the first week of Oct. I do not see it as an improvement over the old ride. Sort of stupid. The same can be said of the new film in Canada. I do not want to see Martin Short goofing around, wasting quality film time about Canada. Is this the new Disney way? Cheaping things by making them new.

I loved the old version. I tell you what....Epcot has not been the same since they took out Horizons and World of Motion. These classic dark rides gave Epcot it's charm and imagination. What were they thinking?

That's the problem, they weren't, and still aren't.:sad2:

I didn't quite understand the ride. We go on it everytime we are Epcot, just to get out of the sun, but that's about the only reason. Everyone talks about it being "updated" and the differences between the old and new version. We went in October in 2005 and then again this past April....I don't remember seeing differences, but does anyone know when they revised/ refurbished the ride?

The main difference was that they took out most of the live action clips and put in stupid cartoon characters, or in some cases overlaid the cartoons on some of the live scenes, as well as taking out the marionette merry go round and putting up a movie screen with....you guessed it, more cartoon characters. A shame, really.:confused3
I believe the "changes" {as such} were done earlier this year. Oh yea, and they took out the catchy tune that used to play throughout the ride.

They also don't let you take the margaritas on board anymore! To me this is a non starter:sad1:

I think they must have changed their mind on this one, I've rode it twice over the last month and was allowed my drink onboard both times. :)

My wife and I rode it just after it opened when we were donw for our honeymoon in April. We really enjoyed it then, but acknowledged it for the slight diversion it is.

We just got back from an early-November long weekend, and walked straight onto the ride. Still not much to it, but they've worked the early kinks out, and we had a good time.

If you go into it with light expectations, you'll be fine. If you expect an 'e-ticket,' you'll be let down.

Has anyone else noticed that the new "plot" of this ride is pretty much exactly the same as the "plot" of The Seas with Nemo and Friends across the park?

In both, animated characters spend the whole ride looking for Donald, whereas at The Seas, they spend the whole ride calling out for Nemo. The lost character re-appears by the last scene in both. Both of these rides opened in 2007 after rehabs. Are you telling me that the Imagineers are so out of ideas that they can't even think of new stories anymore? Where's the wit?:confused3

Whoa, I thought we were the only ones that noticed the similarities! Apparently Iger does not want the Imagineers spending any more time on things then he thinks is necessary.....a damn shame, really....:confused3

Now I've actually been the park and seen this attraction ... I have to say .. I was far less than impressed.

As some of the regulars on this board will tell you, usually I'm the 'fanboi' on these discussions .. but not this time. This was one giant stinking ball of pooh. And not the fuzzy orange bear kind.

I too noticed the similarities to the Finding Nemo attraction .. and while we're talking about it .. I found the technology in parts of that ride neat, but frankly it left me pretty flat too.

As for the new Oh Canada! film. I haven't seen that in Epcot yet, but I have seen it. This is a general improvement in my book. The old film was 25 years old and woefully out of date. The changes in this attraction are for the better in my book. I'll be looking forward to seeing 'in place' at Epcot in 7 days.

Summary: 2 "not impresseds" and 1 "that's better"

Really?! In all the time ive' been, we never went and rode it. Thanks for the input. We won't waste our time when we go back in 08'!!!

Whether or not the old one needed an update, the new one is certainly lacking in Mexican culture. Cute for the kiddies, but not right for the World Showcase.

hmmm....... I'm surprised so many people don't like the new version. I like the old three caballeros movie. I also like it when they combine cartoon with real life action (like Mary Poppins & Bedknobs).

I haven't ridden it yet, but I'll see how I like it when I go in January.

I do wish they had left the catchy song in the ride and the marionettes.

Believe me, Mary Poppins and Bedknobs it ain't. They did it cheapo style, unfortunatley...........:sad2:

Gee - when I think of Mexico I think of cultures thousands of years old, mysterious and vast ruins that dwarfed the cities of Europe of their time, of deep jungles, of the Sea of Cortez, of mountains and deserts - of the largest city on the planet.

Instead I'm supposed to think of a cheap, bad cartoon from the last century that was about everyplace but Mexico!

Yes - it's shocking more people don't like the toon'd ride.

I agree mitros. This is simply an abomination, IMO. If "it's Ok for the toddlers" is all the great and all mighty Disney aspires to these days then we're in big trouble.:sad2:

Oh, and I like the three Cabelleros too but Epcot just isn't the place for this simplistic innanity.

On a brighter note, my daughter (14) and I literally giggle our way through this ride...Sadly we're laughing at, not with...:scared1:
