Mexico or Dominican Republic?

Looking at going to an all inclusive this summer. Can't decide between the two destinations. Have narrowed it down to Sandos Playacar Beach Resort, or Viva Wyndham Azteca both in Playa del Carmen Mexico or Majestic Colonial Punta Cana DR? Help!!! Both are around the same price for us. We are travelling with our 2 kids ages 11 & 13.

We've been to both areas several times and our favorite is the Dominican. We think the beaches are much better, which is very important to us!! Beautiful sandy beaches that are wide and you can walk forever in either direction!! You can check all those places on Tripadvisor and view travelers pictures.

I lived in the Northeast peninsula of the Dominican Republic for 9 months, and I would choose an all-inclusive in DR over Mexico too. The beaches are awesome, and the people there are amazing as well!

My sister went to DR and really liked it. I'd stay away from Mexico.

We really enjoyed Sandos in Playa. *(we had the select package which gave us premium drinks) Check out tripadvisor and read the reviews for both places.

Only been to Mexico, but we absolutely love it. We've been 4 times with our kids (ages 6, 10 & 11) and are doing our 5th trip this April. There is a lot to do in Mexico, cenotes, zip lining, natural parks, snorkeling, etc. Or you can just stay at the resort as there is always something to do there as well. We stayed at Sandos Carocol 2 years ago and had a great time. Last year we stayed at Marina El Cid. I would highly recommend this property especially with the ages of your kids. They always had fun activities going on at the beach & the pool and there is a cliff jump and a waterslide in the pool. My kids spent hours on that every day. This year we're trying the Grand Palladium just for something different and because its supposed to have a great beach.

I think both DR and Mexico have their fans. For us, Mexico always just prices out so much cheaper so we have never tried DR. The Mexican people are wonderful, and we have never felt unsafe anywhere we have gone there. We have friends that would "never" go to Mexico, but I have no idea why! It is awesome.

I have been to Mexico once ... and Dominican Republic twice!! If that tells you anything, I vote DOMINICAN!! I say this for lots of reasons, nicer beaches, felt safer in dominican, and also the people in Dominican Republic were SO happy for you to come their country and visit. They really made you feel welcome! Didn't get that vibe in Mexico.

We went to the Majestic Elegance last Feb. (next to Colonial) and LOVED it! It was just DH and I, but we kept saying how much DD would have loved the pool.

We've only been to the east coast of Mexico but we really love it there. Personally I adore the Mexican and Mayan cultures and the people. The Mexican people are super family friendly. We have also been to Hawaii at least 8 times and do get near as friendly a vibe there towards tourists.

We are used to West coach beaches so for us, the Yucatan's beaches are heaven on earth! Definitely much nicer than Hawaii's beaches in my opinion though Hawaii is also a magical place.

We are definitely interested in checking out some other islands in the Caribbean in the future. However a pilot friend of mine flys in out of the Caribbean very frequently and the DR is one of his least favorite destinations so we'll probably go elsewhere. And also, this summer we are checking out Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta for something different.

I've been to both destinations and I don't think you can go wrong with either one. My kids had just as much fun in the DR as they did in Mexico.

We tend to pick Mexico more often just because it usually prices out cheaper for us. Since we've been to Mexico more often if the price was the same I would probably pick the DR, just because we haven't been as often.
