Thanks for the heads up. I am always worried to schedule excursions outside of Disney because of those problems that can come up but sometimes we can get a better price. I am just having a hard time doing any excursions...maybe I will just hire a taxi and do our own thing.

Truth be told - I prefer to go outside DCL. It is cheaper and you can barter the price much better. I don't worry about it if we are there for longer than 8 hrs. This way, I can do either. In Acapulco, I managed to do both - do a DCL excursion and then the driver offered to take us after for an additional fee. It worked out pretty good for us. You might enjoy that anyway. The only problem with this is if there is another ship in port with us. Then the boats, tenders, water taxis are more in demand and then the price goes up.
You shouldn't have any problems if you hire a private taxi, most drivers, to my experience are very friendly and helpful. They need the tourism there and most go out of their way to make sure you have a good time.
