Mexican Riviera Cruise 03/27/2011

I know that most on here probably know this already, but you must have a valid admission ticket to get on the monorail in Downtown Disney.

We're APs so no worries!

That's a fantastic bit of trivia though! We've been passholders since 2004 and have never known that in the past you could catch it by just buying a ticket - that is so cool!

CalDisFan and Penguinaddict, its great that you recognize my daughter. She loves to have people stop by and visit her. She has been away from home for almost two years and doesn't get to come home for a visit much so, she gets a little home sick sometimes.

But when she see someone she knows and they stop by at the parks it really cheers her up. She is a special girl and loves working at Disneyland as a host, she gets to move around from land to land and park to park. Everyday is different as are the guest that come to visit.

When she is done with her grad studies, that is one thing she is going to really miss. She said that she has to get a part time job and a disney store, just so she can feel a little of the magic.

OK, we are down to the single digit dance. :dance3::yay::banana::cool1::dancer:party:

Hi all, i can't believe we are down to 10 days. I am so excited. I feel like there is so much to do and not enough time. I also find myself doing a lot more shopping then I expected :) Anyhow, anyone planning any trips to Disneyland before the trip. I think its time we made a trip, maybe Thursday or Friday of next week.

I've decided to fly down to So Cal instead of driving with the cost of gas it was about the same for a ticket and it saves 16 hours of driving time and 900 miles on my suv.

DD has school all day on Thursday and Friday she works in the Plaza Inn on main street for the morning Breakfast.
So if you are going to be in the park let me know maybe we can meet up somewhere. That would be great fun.

Saturday she has another concert, her 3rd one in a week. So cruise will be a nice break for her also.

Hi all,

We're sailing on the 27th. I have been more of a stalker than an active participant in this board but I'm wondering if anyone else is concerned about the weather forecast for LA on our departure day. It shows showers. Will this affect our sail away party or make the seas a lot rougher? I'm from Northern Ca and we are having very heavy rains and rain forecasted for the next 10 days so I was hoping for better weather down south!

Kim welcome to another Nor Cal cruiser, theirs a few of us here. Where about's are you from. I'm from Woodland.

I think we will have a pretty good trip once we are off and going. Mexico is slated for mid 80's.

The captain usually steers us out bad weather as much as possible. only time will tell.

I wouldn't worry about weather forecasts this far out. Around here rain forecasts are usually accurate at 5 days outor les.

Hi Kim,

Nice to hear from you!! We're in Cloverdale - - - - you close by??

We'll be driving down on Thursday and hate the weather forecast! But I'm hoping we have 80s just like MyLove4Disney is saying...

Lori

Hi All!
It's nice to see so many posts today!
The weather forecast for LA area is rain for Sun Morn, possibly afternoon. :sad1: If it is when it's time to sail, I'm guessing they will move the Sail Away party indoors. :wizard: But I'm hoping the rain will have stopped by then! :thumbsup2

Hi Susan and Lori,

We are from Napa and I am tired of all this rain! They had to cancel opening day of little league today.....:sad1:
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some sunny skies! But whatever happens, I am just looking forward to a fun time on the Wonder! My husband and I cruised on the Wonder about 4 months after its maiden voyage....It was one of the best vacations we ever had!

Anyone started packing yet??

We are from Napa...

Hi Kim, I used to live and work in Napa! Small world... no Disney pun intended. :lmao:

Anyone started packing yet??

Wish (ok, not really) you could see the end of our bed. I pulled out dresses from the closet and proceeded to try each one on, then moved onto shirts then shorts... now there's a giant pile of clothes sitting at the end of our bed that need to be sorted and put into a suitcase. :scared1:

Napa only a short drive from me. I have a very good friend that lives there right near Justin Siena High School. I visit her about once a month.

As for the Packing I have been pseudo packed for about 3 weeks. Summer shorts, everyday clothings and swim suits. Only things I have to pack are formal and semi formal dresses, shoes and the stuff I use every day and of course our Mickey Ears....:lmao:

What is your cast of charaters, for me it will only be my adult daughter and myself. You said you and your husband went on the Wonder during her 1st year. Will it be the same or will you be bring children this time?

Anyway glad you will be joining us.

Susan

We live fairly close to Justin Sienna High School as well! It truly is a small world!

We will be bringing our DS9 this time! We haven't taken a vacation without him since he was born! My DH likes to lounge and do nothing on vacation so DS and I will be having all the fun! Unless he likes the kids club too much and then I guess I'm on my own.....:sad1:

Only 7 days to go!

I'm sure he will have a great time in the clubs. Quite Cove will be a great place to hang when he's not with you.

Ok anyone out there I see the whale watching trip has open back up it was full, so now I am contemplating doing that trip. Is anyone else doing that one with Disney?
I did notice that it is seasonal and supposed to only go up to 3/15, wonder why they are offering it.

Hi everyone!
Whew! Yes, I know,...it is 2:15am, and I AM STILL UP!! But, it's been quite the day. As many of you know, we JUST told the kids a few days ago that we are going on the cruise! They have been excited ever since, barraging us with questions everyday, and on our computer on DIS many times a day. Sunday was no different. We decided to pull out the DCL dvd again (we've watched it 4 times in the past 3 days!), and watch again. At the end, our DD said, "I wish we could go today!". My DH said that would be great, but had to wait just one more week, but it was in port right now getting ready to take another group of cruisers out this week. She said, "Here? In L.A.?!". Yes, DH said, and they all began to ask to just go see it, pleeeez! (BIG emphasis on the pleeez..) Well it was already 4:30pm, and as you all know, the ship takes off no later than 5:30. We live on a good traffic day, about 40-45 min away. But, DH said, well we needed to do a dry run there anyways, & although we may not see the Wonder there, we'd know how to get there. BUT.. it was raining like cats & dogs, and sideways! But DH said in his impromptu tone, "Shoes & coats on kids, we're goin for a drive!" So we literally grabbed & went! It was raining so hard & the wind was blowing sooooo hard. We got down there & we're trying to use the map app on the phone, as we did NOT print out the directions there! (oops..) So we got close, but must've missed the bridges/turnoffs. Finally seeing a "cruise ships" sign, we turned. But ended up infront of the Queen Mary! Yikes, wrong port! So off we went. "Uh oh", DH said, looking down at the dashboard, we are almost out of gas! So then had to make the mad gas dash, of which NONE were in sight. Finally finding one, it was 6:25pm at this point. Oh well, I was thinking, maybe we will still find the port itself. So off we were again in the pelting rain. Finally the right bridge! So we head over, but still nothing. All of a sudden a shrill from the backseat.."MOMMMMM!!! LOOK!!!" And to our left was THE WONDER!!! I could'nt believe she was still there, it was 6:45!! We pull into an empty parking lot, OMGness, it's right there infront of us!! 2 tugboats are frontways into it "holding" it in place so it won't hit the dock! (the wind was blowing that hard), and raining buckets. I am sooo excited by this point, we were all piling out of the car, but then it started to pull out! "Kids, pile back in, we're following it!" DH cries out. We pile back in like wet dogs, and proceed to each next berth along the way. Poor cruisers, no outdoors Sail Away party, but we could see many out on their verandas, and CM all in their raincoats. We pulled into 3 more berths, hurried out, waving and jumping, taking pics. The wind nearly blew us over! and our umbrellas flipped up,:rotfl2: as we were laughing ourselves silly.:lmao: I'm at this point imagining people looking out saying, "Look, no one out there, oh except that nutty group soaking and waving like crazy people!!" Then the kids did the hand motions for getting a truck driver to blow his horn. We were the ONLY people out there anywhere. Then as the kids did that, they BLEW THE HORN! the "When You Wish Upon a Star" one! That was super exciting. The last berth we parked at, we were sooo close to the ship, like RIGHT infront of us, 50 ft, we could clearly make out the people, saw kids jumping on their beds in their cabins, heard the movie playing on the big screen on deck. The ship seemed to be rocking pretty bad. The water was very choppy. So, if it rains again on next Sunday, as it says it may, my advice would be to take that Dramamine/Bonine WAY before boarding & bring a raincoat/umbrella!!
What a day!:scared1::laughing: I just had to share, it was such an exciting thing to see that beautiful ship. We saw a Carnival ship & like I said, the Queen Mary, but they DO NOT EVEN compare to the Wonder. Get pumped, only 6 more days!! :woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay:

:yay::yay::banana::cheer2:
What an exciting story! Your kids are learning such a sense of adventure and joy from you - congratulations!

:dance3::cheer2::cool2::cool1::jumping3:

Can a past cruiser tell me if Disney has "little" silverware for my toddler? :fish::fish::flower1::butterfly:dogdance::tink:

Yahoo. CalDisFans

You are getting us all pumped up. Great Pre Cruise Trip report. I'm flying down on Wednesday night, I'm getting so excited.

Question on your dry run part. Since I not really from So Cal but pretty much know my way around the Disneyland, Brea, Yorba Linda, Fullerton area, can you tell me about much time it will take us to get there. I'm not sure what direction you are coming from and how easy is it to find the parking lot.

Susan

I too am familiar with Orange Co Fullerton, Anaheim, Buena Park area (I grew up there!) We were coming from Riverside area. It would've (had we not gotten lost in the torential downpour..), about 45-60 min. Getting on that S/Vincent Bridge is what we missed. The Sunrise Hotel is pretty much across the street from the ship, and The Accapulco Restaurant is on the same side as the ship, next to the parking area. That is the place we needed as an address put in our map app.
We loved seeing it, and our spontaneous trip there and all its craziness, will be a hillarious lifetime memory!:rotfl2:

Hi everyone,

Very cool story, Becky!! I wish I could have talked my family into a test-run. Of course, the first 500 miles wouldn't have been too exciting :rotfl: .

So, Bryce keeps checking the weather and I had to tell him to stop telling me! First it's no rain, then rain, then no rain, then, the Grapevine is closed, then, rain, then.... and on and on and on.

Finally turned off my mommy-hearing and just nod and say "uh huh.... yep" and it seems to pacify his need to give me the hourly weather report. I guess I need to give him something productive to do so he stops checking the weather.

Rain or shine or hurricanes or heat wave, I'm just grateful for a vacation with Mickey and friends. Oh, and my family - I think. :lmao:

I can totally relate to the weather thing...I am constantly checking! Although at last check it looked pretty good, so maybe I should stop now while I'm ahead!
