I have never sailed on Disney but we are planing to go.

I am planning on going to the Mexican Riveira - yippee! I see that I can go cheaper in January.

And I could see that if I were going to Castaway Cay waiting until he was 5 was a better idea so he could do the Sting Ray adventure (get to touch them, etc.) For us, that would be a reason to wait - if we were going to Castaway Cay.

For those of you who have been to the Riveira - is there something like that he would miss out on if I don't wait until he is 5? How about ship activites for the kids - anything like that he would miss out if I don't wait?

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

We did the EB Panama Canal Crossing 2 years ago and the Mexican Rivera was pretty awesome. The Sting Ray thing at CC is okay. Very short time with the rays. Off the top of my head I can't recall anything like that in Mexico though. What I can tell you is that for excusions in Mexico, you are very limited for young kids being allowed to go. On the boat of course you will find nothing better than Disny's kids club. Personally I wouldn't wait either way if you have a chance to do the Mexican Riverea now.

Appreciate the response. We knew the excursions for the little ones would be limited. And we were planning on playing with him at the beach one day anyway and of course on the ship in the pools,. etc. So it would be fine.

How old is your child?

You might consider visiting the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach before you cruise. I believe they still have their "touch tank" with sting rays in it. I don't believe there is a minimum age to touch the rays at the Aquarium.

My kids will be 6 and almost 3 when we go on the MR cruise in April. We know my 2 year old son cannot do many excursions so we are looking into getting a day pass at a resort to enjoy the use of there pools. :)

Hi! Whale watching is a great excursions. They have larger boats (mainly for hte senior set) that you just sit on benches, like a ferry. We are planning to do one for our cruise in February as my son is handicapped and could not handle the smaller catamarans.

My DS was 4 when we went on the MR cruise with Disney in 2005. He did the Kids Dolphin Encounter for ages 4-8 in Puerto Vallarta and LOVED it!!! We booked it through Disney. It was really tailored to the little kids...they showed them signals to give the dolphins to make them perform "tricks," they got to pet and hug them, got a dolphin kiss, etc...all from the safety of a large "shelf" in the water.

In Mazatlan, we went on our own to a resort called El Cid. They had a HUGE pool area with waterfalls, waterslides, and rocks to climb and jump from. Lots of lounge chairs available and there was a kiddie playground too. The resort was right on the beach, and parasailing and jetskis were available to rent also (though we didn't go to the beach there). We ate lunch there, relaxed for the day, and then took a taxi back to the ship. DS4 had a great time!

In Cabo San Lucas, we pre-booked parasailing and jetskis through JT Watersports online. They picked us up at the dock where the tenders drop you off, took us parasailing (DS4 and I did tandem), and then dropped us off at the beach where we rode jetskis in the bay around the ship and then played at the beach. JT Watersports took us back to the tender dock when we were ready. It was so much fun...DS4 had a BLAST!

I think there is plenty to do at any port for kids of all ages!
