We love Mexican food and our 1st trip to Disneyland in June. Help us out by letting us know your thoughts on these two restaurants. What is your favorite one and what is your favorite dinner? Tortilla Jo's at Downtown Disney or Rancho Del Zocalo in Disneyland.

I haven't eaten at Rancho, personally, but have heard it was ok but definitely felt like park food.
As for Tortilla Jo's, I give it a big thumbs up. We ate there several times over the years and it never failed to satisfy. Nice atmosphere, tasty food, can't miss :)

I grabbed drinks at Tortilla Jo's and had the nachos. They were great. Everyone else eating also liked their food. If you go for Tortilla Jo's here is a tip: The outside sitting has a separate host/hostess. Usually we have great weather and people are unnecessarily lined up for a table inside. There was like a 30 minute wait and 0 for outside. We relaxed past midnight with the pleasant weather.

I also liked Rancho though but, if I happen to be over in DCA I'd take Cocina Cucamonga over Rancho. I like CC's tamales.

We love Tortilla Joes! We eat there every single time we go to DL!

I guess I'm the minority so far. I didn't like Tortilla Jo's at all but we LOVE Rancho. Portions are really big at Rancho so it's easy to split a meal. :)

My friend ate at Cocina Cucamonga and said the meat was sooo yummy. She's pretty picky with her food so for her to love it was kinda shocking to me! It really must be good. I have yet to eat there.

I have to say that I am not at all a fan of Tortilla Jo's. Everytime I've gone there, the guacamole tastes like it's carbonated or like soda water for some reason.

The in-the-park restaurants are actually decent, especially for Disneyland/Theme park food. I personally like the tamales at Cucina Cucomonga in DCA

tortilla jo's is the bomb!!

rancho del zocalo for inside the park rocks! I have photos from the other day....

i will post in aminute!

rancho del zocalo

the two soft taco meal(drink not included), with chicken....

the mahi mahi taco plate...

my friend had the chicken tacos, i did the mahi mahi.. i heard no complaint from her -- so the tacos rocked~ an my tacos were soo soo soo good!

We like both...RdZ for a quick in-park Mexican fix, and TJ's for dinner with adult bevvies. Neither will ever win any awards for Most Authentic Mexican Food Ever, but they are fine for what they are. Never had the weird guacamole experience another poster has had.

We tend to find that we have to really lower our expectations in general when dining at DLR, so "fine" in DLR is more like "really good". :lmao:

We like Rancho, mainly because it's a fairly "cheap" sit down restaurant and someplace everyone will eat. The food itself is on par with an Azteca...nothing spectacular but ok, IMO.

Now it's not "really" a sit down, in that you have a waiter/waitress. But you do get to actually sit down in a restaurant-type environment and the outdoor seating area can be a nice peacful break from the parks.

We also like that we can buy 2 meals and split them between the 3 of us. You can order a side of chips or an extra tortilla. We always get the meals that have rice and beans and then buy an extra tortilla for DS and make him bean burritos using our extra rice and beans. SO much cheaper this way!

Also, if you have a Disney Visa card, you save 10% off your meal at Rancho's. Not sure on the other places??

We would love to try Tortilla Jo's and CC...glad to hear they are so popular!

We ate at TJ's once, both DBF and myself got sick after. We are sure it was from eating at TJ's because only he and I were affected and only he and I ate at TJ's. The girls wanted something else so they had Jazz Kitchen Express, everything else we all ate together. So we won't go to TJ's now.
Rancho is very good, no it's not traditional Mexican but it's good either way. We can get 3 plates and share between 4 but if we are hungry enough we each get our own plate. DD10 & DD14 still like to order from the kids menu there, they really like the chicken tacos. :) Also at Rancho you can get sauteed veggies instead of rice or beans, I usually have them take away the beans and add the veggies, they are very good!! We tend to eat at Rancho around 2-4 in the afternoon, then we are usually fine the rest of the day, no "meal" needed, just a snack later. :)
Cocina Cucamonga at DCA is also good, the menu is similar to Rancho but there are some items that you can only get at one of the two places. It's not an exact menu copy, plus at CC you get the Lady Mariachi's and they are neat. :)

If you don't mind me asking...what did you eat at TJ's?? Did you both have the same thing?

And what are Lady Mariachi's?:goodvibes

Thanks everyone for all the info. Sara your pictures looked great - thanks for sharing with me!

They are both decent. The deciding factor should be whether or not you want a margarita with your Mexican food. If so, you will have to go to TJs. :)
