Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

I agree, Feb or April is MUCH better than summer, esp in August, when it seems to be hottest.

Sheryl-I am glad Alexis thought it so much fun!!! We loved hurricane parties when we were younger b/c of all that.

Now, since K, Haley is so freaked out by them that it is another reason we leave. She is really going to be upset if I have to stay at the hospital for the next one and DH and DD's leave. I am hoping and praying I don't but it wouldn't be fair to expect the F/T'ers to always do it. We have 1 more F/T'er who may pick this one up, but I would most defintely be next for another one this year or next. Plus, heck, if I hafta stay, It would be a nice extra wad of $$ to help us pay off that house stuff we are dealing with.

DH has that funky cold I had and Haley prolly had. Hopefully Ashton bypasses having it. I could not handle high fever with no symptoms in her right now. The anniversary of her diagnosis is Sept 15th. Our family's little 9/11. Plus all the stress from these hurricanes this year!!

As far as my freezer goes, well, I have enough meat and veggies for about 3 more meals. Today we are having red beans and rice! I really like it this empty but it PAINED me to throw away my huge supply of hand picked blueberries!! We got more this year than last b/c it didn't last me as long as I had hoped last year! I think , from now on, I will only keep food for a week or 2 at a time and not stock up on stuff like I was-although a full freezer surely makes you feel blessed!

Morning Y'all,

Where's Piglet, I would also recommend April.

Lori, Thanks for the update! I have lost time & days, don't quite know what's what yet! Happy to hear Lorie is enjoying an extended vacation!

My Sis in law Chris & my SonIL Josh, had to report to their prospective hospitals on Tuesday (again I think it was Tuesday). They left Ville Platte together & drove through some wicked weather. We were pretty nervous about it, but Thank God they were fine.

I think it stinks that Chris was Team B & had to report. But now Team B becomes Team A & she will have to stay for the next one. Seems like a stupid stupid plan to me. :confused3 Instead of having Team C start, let's have the people who have already reported. The same ones that worked double & triple shifts come in again. Makes no sense to me.:sad2:

I'm sure Haley will handle it. Kids are much more resilient than we think they are.

Alexis handled her Mom leaving very well! Which was surprising because her Dad, Rickie wasn't with us either. He had gone to take his dogs to his Mom's in MS. Instead of being able to come right back, he ended up evacuating his Mom to a cousin's in North MS. She lives in a trailer. So Alexis didn't have her Mom or Dad until we returned home. She was so grownup about it all. Handled it better than her Nanny did when Josh left. She only had one meltdown. We were leaving Ville Platte, a huge horsefly got into the van. She was hysterically sobbing. We had to stop our caravan & my DD had to climb & reach over all the stuff to kill the darn thing. Luckily she fell asleep for a while after that.

Piglet - Another April vote!

Lori - Please post your pics.:goodvibes

I was able to hit the 25 lb. lost mark during evacuation, that's not the way I wanted to do it though.

I only have enough food in the freezer/frig for a few more days just in case...

Kathy, I think I've gained your lost 25 lbs! The stress eating of crunchy chips & chocolate plus all the good food that was being cooked. I haven't gotten on the scale yet because I'm very afraid to see the truth. Congrats on doing such a great job especially while coping with Gustav!:thumbsup2

Morning ladies...well I restocked the fridge but I have houseguests and I will ensure we eat everything in case we have to roll out again!

DD also did very well during the storm. I agree being with cousins helped her get over some of the fear. But of course it was not thundering and lightening just rain.

Morning all.. out to do some last min shopping.
Parents spent the night last night, had a lovely dinner and a nice time visiting. Hopefully they will be back tonight to sleep again.

WOO HOO.. almost time to leave !!! My ticker says three days... but we have decided to hit the road Tuesday night/ Wed morning. Prob leave sometime around 2-3 am!!

I've never gotten over my nightmare of cleaning out my refrigerator/freezer after Katrina. I tried for an entire month to get rid of the smell but finally gave up. I told my husband that I don't consider myself a demanding or frivolous woman....I don't ask for diamonds or furs.....all I want is a refrigerator that doesn't smell like a dead animal. :rotfl2: He gave me my refrigerator! :yay:

I honestly haven't gotten past this. I can't make myself have more in the freezer than I can use in a few days, even after all this time. For months after I got the new refrigerator, I would open the doors and bask in the clean, white emptiness of it. I don't do that anymore, but I still don't stock up. I didn't have much to throw away when we left for Gustav.

Maybe I should've started an evacuation TR-but it was only 2 days!!!
I ahve more on a disposable water camera from Typhoon Lagoon, but here are a few fun suprises we encountered...

too cute!!

we thought this was going to be our last night as we had found out our power had come back on-so we do this tradition every time we go. We go to MK and sit in front of the castle with a Mickey ice cream bar and wait peacefully for the crowds to go away. This time, since we had not gone to a park(yet), we got the ice cream bars and went to the Poly to watch the fireworks from across the lake...

But to our happiness, DH said he wanted to work and not go home right away due to traffic. So he told us me and the girls could go to a park! They picked MK and we got there at 8am!(EMH)

Ashton did the pirate tutorial(Haley wasn't really awake yet-she is not a morning gal!)..
disneyevacuation048.jpg

But they gave Haley a certificate that Capt. Jack would take care of us anyway...
disneyevacuation049.jpg

Plus that shows that we got YOAMD Mickey ears-we got them coming off of Splash Mountain-which has been closed the last 2 times I have been to a Disney parks-so we rode it twice!!
This parade passed us , like, 6 times!!
disneyevacuation054.jpg

The girls begged me for this- at $7.50, I said, "okay"!

Ash got LSU colors...

I love fall and the colors and I couldn't help but take some general of the park all dressed up

More from the water parks after I get them developed!!! It may be a while!

And i must say that I am impressed with these pics now I see them bigger-they were all taken with my new cell phone(Palm centro-blue!)

Me too, I have a few. I wish I could NOT eat under stress.
I ahve taken to waters this week as we had many soft drinks last week. (My DH says it's our only vice and at least it aint alcohol!;) If it was, we'd be ,well, very "happy":rotfl: )
