Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Jenny, How did your meeting go?

all went well, we sat in on a cpl of his classes to see how he was doing and the principal wanted us to see what he would be learning in the first grade. We will get back together on Tuesday to discuss what they think about him staying in first grade or if he really needs to be in Kinder.
They didnt seem real concerned about his behavior lol!

Well that's good!!:thumbsup2 Sounds like a very good school! They seem to be trying very hard to the best thing for Jack.

I'm praying for all who may be effected. :grouphug:

My DS, DIL and little Grandson now live at Oppolousis after losing their last home to Rita. They lived at Holly Beach. I want them to come home. DIL just found out she is pregnant. :woohoo:

There are a couple of small motels here in Rayville, Louisiana. A Day's Inn (318-728-4500) and a Super 8 (318-728-5985). The Day's Inn looks nicer from the highway, I've never been in either one.

Monroe has a fair number of hotels/motels.

God Bless you all.

Penny

We love a little known place about 20 minutes south of Chatanooga called Cloudland Canyon. It is a national park with cabins. It is in a town called Rising Fawn, Georgia. It is so beautiful there.

Dallas isn't all that, but we lived there 3 years and DH knows he can work from there, so i bet, if it comes this way, we'll be there-as much as I want to wind up in WDW. He DID make a ressie at a Homewood Suites near WDW. He says he did that one for me:love: . But when it comes down to it, and with our tight budget right now, it just is not the smart thing to do. Plus, the bank DH works for is no where down there except in ATM form and further south.

Going to get my TB test read and find out our dept's hurricane policy.

I am so worried about all of you - mostly the stress you are going through.

Several of my friends in uptown say they are not going to evacuate - because there was relatively little damage (no flooding) riverside of St. Charles. That could be a big mistake. But many had terrible damage from water that came in via the roof - damage that could have been prevented if someone could have cleaned up earlier. Nothing like flooding though.

I am in Minnesota - just found out that I35W that I have been traveling back and forth on is where the bridge collapsed.

I am just going to have faith that this storm will either fizzle out or find some nice patch of uninhabited land.

Welcome Allyson.

WOW, just watched the news. Jindal is on the ball!
I was amazed at the schedule, looks like things will start in the next 48 hr if the storm stays on track.
Contraflow could start Sat!

Hey Jenny, sounds like all is going well. I like how they are trying to decipher his grade level. It gives the feeling that they want what is best for him as you do. He may be 1st grade in some subjects and kindergarten in others. Ashton was borderline after kindergarten for 1st grade/transitional 1st, but we decided on 1st grade and she did great!

Since we homeschool now, she is on a grade level higher in Language arts. Math, well, she is on target and no more. NOT her favorite subject!!

Hi all... I am trying to keep calm. Did you guys start your shopping yet?

Kathy - how are you doing?

yes, I shopped and on my way out to get gas(the lines were horrendous earlier). DH made ressies in Dallas and Orlando!! I'd love to go to Orlando if we have to be gone and have to spend money on a hotel stay, but not sure that's gonna happen. On a good note, I have an AP that expires in Feb 2009. And a DDE card.

Heard about the contra flow as well.

Lori - Where do you live? I live in Terrytown and will get gas in the morning. I wondered/asked you what type of supplies you put in your emergency kit but you must have missed it. What do you normally get? I am running out of ideas....:confused3

We wont be evacuating of course .. well we will go to a friend's house that doesnt have any trees, we have HUGE oaks around our house and I dont feel safe here but we wont leave town. I have gotten my list together and Chad and I will set out as soon as Jack gets on the bus.
He and I both filled up the cars today just in case prices started running up and we got the yard mowed and gutters cleaned out. I did get batteries today at Walgreens but thats it.
Ive got a ton to do tomorrow!

I have so much to do, and I am getting anxious. I still need to pack, get my hurricane box finished...clean the fridge and garage...
