Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

I am back already!

I just wanted to give you my 2cents worth about POP. You may already know if you read my TR. I am a value resort girl as I can stay in the world longer and more often b/c of them and for that I love them. I have stayed at ASmovies, ASsports, and POP. My favorite: ASmovies for theming, ASsports for busses. POP was disappointing for us. Yes, they have great reviews on the Disney sites, but I just didn't like it and will not go there again. They may have thier own bus system, but the wait was forever. At least the AS bus system moves. We are always the last to leave the parks after the crowds die down in the bus lines. Maybe it was bad timing:confused3 . It is a much bigger resort room-wise and so the food courts are crazier and I felt the service in the food courts was awful. Never felt that way at the AS's. I expect to get what I pay for and nothing more. Pop did suprise us a good but with towel animals and even a POP rubiks cube toy for each DD. Our room was nicely situated in the 80's right by the busses.
We got nothing we asked for , which may have started the bad taste in our mouth for the place. I asked for top floor in the back of the 60's. I asked to be near by DB and SIL but did not need to be connected. We got 3rd floor in the 80's (front)and we had connecting rooms we never used.

JMHO-once again. Everyone else sems to love it.

Lori

EDIT: wow, I just read my posts and realized just HOW opinionated I am-o'well, it is all JUST opinion.

Hey Lorie -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

birthday.jpg
Thanks! :)

The little mouse is so cute and definitely fits after Sienna's little "I touched Mickey Mouse!" episode! :rotfl:

Lori- Thanks so much for the homeschooling insight! It is definitely something I will be thinking about in the upcoming months.

Terry- I'll be doing laundry tomorrow while it rains- nothing fun! :laundy:

Happy Birthday Lorie...what did you do today?
Oh I was bad! After watching what I've been eating for the past few weeks, I wanted a fried seafood feast, which DH picked up from KJeans for dinner. I had an Abita Amber with it, followed by chocolate mousse and a praline cheesecake slice from Whole Foods (the three of us split this- I didn't want a whole cake to blow my diet). Otherwise, it was like any other day- I walked this morning and then ran some errands.

:thumbsup2 well it sounds as if you enjoyed your day! I am finishing up on the laundry now while I finish off my 3rd glass of wine! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good morning NOLA! Doesn't look like we're getting much rain.:confused3

Where's Tricia(GW) been?

Good morning NOLA.

Well it's been raining here in Mandeville since about 7 AM. Nothing really hard just steady light rain with a few gusts of wind thrown in. I really don't think we'll get too much from Fay. At least that's what I'm hoping.

I think I've got quite a lot of catching up to do on this thread. I hope all have been well. I just haven't been on the computer as much as I usually am. I'm not sure why but I plan to change all that next week.

Stay safe and dry everyone.

Afternoon Y'all,

We're getting very light rain & the wind is really whipping. But it sure feels nice & cool.

I've had a disastrous morning. Started fixing an old fashioned Sunday meal, pot roast, rice. Trying to trim some fat off the roast, I sliced open my finger. It looked bad but it's in a spot that it's staying closed. Then after carrying the cutting board to pot to dump in onions, I turned& knocked a bottle of olive oil off the counter. Shattered glass & olive oil everywhere. :sad2:

Happy Belated Birthday Lorie!!! I think every birthday girl deserves a meal like that!!! Glad you enjoyed your day!

Lori, Welcome Home.

Have a good Sunday gals!

Lori, thanks for the info on homeschooling. I did a google search yesterday and found umpteen sites about CHEF and homeschooling. I really am interested in this. I know I'm probably being silly, but I'm terrified of turning Jacie loose into the public school system. In the early 90's, when my daughter was in high school, she witnessed a drug transaction in her school and told a teacher about it. The teacher wasn't very careful about keeping my daughter's identity secret and she received many threats, including a death threat. We had to transfer her to the school in Lafitte and I had to drive her back and forth to school for 2 years. This was way back in the 90's. What is it like out there now? What will Jacie be exposed to as she gets older. You can see why I'm so concerned and so interested in homeschooling.

Thanks, Columbus was small town and very nice, but the people that we had a dinner(very fancy BBQ) with had manners less than nice. Maybe I'll just out it off to lack of hospitality that they seem to be known for. Something I had not expected at all considering the beauty of the place. NOT that 1 has to do with the other, but boy, you'd think they'd be a bit happier considering spring type weather and 1100 acre historical (hilly and winding stream) parks 10 minutes by interstate from the middle of the city. And many of them. I guess those yucky wiinters can get to you!
I got to see my cousin from Cincinnatti(we met halfway) and she homeschools too(I did not know this!!) so we had lots to talk about. I even went to the "horseshoe"-Ohio States football field. The students I met on campus were nice(for directions to a bookstore for a friend feeding my dog and a photo to text to them), but the fans we met at the BBQ were not. I am PROUD the LSU fans can at least have fun about it, even if we lose. We are a MUCH friendlier bunch.
I know we are all not like that and there a few out there who take it TOO seriously(and I KNOW we all take it seriously, but can have fun about it!), and I am sure there are Buckeyes that have fun with it like our friends do-but not the ones we met up there!

I am not worried about Fay. We flew from Columbus to NOLA, via Orlando(yeah, weird) as Fay went through on Thursday night. It as a rocky landing(everyone on the plane clapped after a safe landing), but we expected much worse. Then we had to take off in it, that was a little rough too, but only for about the first 10-15 minutes. Lots of rain and some wind. Smooth flight the rest of the way.

It bugged me to be in Orlando and not get out!!! We were supposed to have an hour and a half layover but our flight was delayed (in Columbus)due to the weather. My evil plan was to run out of the plane and find a Mickey statue for a pic and maybe even a store to grab the kids something-then run back on the plane to head home.:rolleyes1 But we couldn't get off, and we took off about 15 minutes after landing-so no time!

My DH is on his way back to the airport to go back to Columbus right now. Flying in Fay again, but less worrisome.

I'll tell you about the fancy BBQ later-all I can say was it was agonizing.

Lori

I hear ya! I totally would be looking into homeschooling if I were you! I have a friend who went to pub. school in N.O. in the 90's, she has such horrible memories she wont let her dd ride the school bus now here in Baton Rouge, even though we know its a safe area and its private school.

Wow Sheryl, sounds like an icky morning! Hope it gets better!

Lorie, sounds like a yummy dinner and nice night you had.
Happy belated birthday!

Rain rain go away! Our Sunday volleyball game has been canceled of course :sad1: I always look forward to a good afternoon of exercise. Oh well guess ill hit the gym in the am to make up for it and of course since we arent playing ball we are bar b qing at their house , they have the worlds largest back porch lol. Doesnt matter how much it rains and how the wind blows you stay dry at their house.

Stay dry everyone!

Sheryl, it seems like you should just go have a seat, rest and let someone else deal with that Sunday dinner. If not anyone else, then you need to still go chill out and collect yourself and then go back to it in a bit. If it can't be finished, then I'd say it is an ordering out night and finish your roast tomorrow!!! Hope you didn't slice it too badly. I have done this before.

Campin'cat-no problem, it was probably too wordy and opinionated, but I feel a real peace about it. I feel refreshed after a few days off from my life. Ready to jump back in tomorrow.

I was listening to Walton and Johnson Friday morning(whom I rarely listen to anymore-loved 'em in high school) and they were talking about Planned Parenthood and that public schools are using some video to "educate" kids about all that. I looked up the videos mentioned on youtube last night just to see what they were talking about. Even THEY thought it was nutty and did not agree with it. Can public schools possibly be using this to educate?? It was called Takecaredownthere.org. I guess I am naive and think that these videos are CRAZY and how could they possibly be shown to Americas youth. W&J are based in Texas now, so maybe they were talking thier public schools, who knows.
I am not sure how I feel about that type education, b/c there are so many kids out there whose parents do not educate them about all this. I just feel it is a very personal thing and up to parents to let thier kids know about all that and thier views, morals, expectations, etc. I wouldn't want my kids to see this.

OMG OMG OMG!!!???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am NOT an uptight parent BUT this had me grossed out. My oldest and I have had some crazy discussions about a range of things. He has always felt very comfortable about talking to me about anything but I wouldnt have wanted him to see this at school.
I guess they are trying to be more "hip" and get a point across to the kids. Being around my oldest and his friends, I have heard them talk like this and it sends me running quietly from the room. This kinda stuff isnt taboo amongst the kids ( which is very very sad! ) .. i mean heck watch MTV for five mins and you will learn more than we ever wanted to about threesomes and being bi sexual etc.
All in all this is a super personal thing and I cant imagine a school showing this stuff.. its crazy and the old guy is creepy.
Im kinda grossed out and embarrassed all at the same time lol, even my husband just about died.
Teaching kids about sex should be done, but not in such a way that it seems ok to run around and get it on, which this seems to say. As long as your safe its good to have sex is what I got from it .. and thats NOT all there is to it!

UGHH i feel like i need a shower after watching that!

Walton and Johnson were having most fun mocking the "Oh and I didn't even spew" one!
