Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Good morning, just checking in real quick.

My mom continues to improve. The kids and I went yesterday to visit her, and she was sitting up in her chair for about 2 hours while we were there:thumbsup2 We will go in a little while to visit her again.

Terry and Lori (BP), I hope ya'll start to feel better as the day goes on.

Kathy, 16 pounds!! That's great!!:cool1:

Thanks!

I am glad your mom is doing much better!:)

Just wanted to stop and say HELLO :wave2:

Hi!:wave2: Stick around and post with us.:goodvibes

Thanks everyone on the weight loss congrats. I've really been working hard and it's so rewarding to see those pounds just drop off, only 21 more to go.... Johnny & Kyle are both CRAVING something fried and greasy so I told them to get Popeyes tonight on their way back from picking up my grilled redfish.;)

Mary, that is wonderful news. She'll get stronger every day.:goodvibes

I have a question - Ive heard several of you mention Mona's Cafe, I believe it was Lorie and Sheryl. I just found out it's real close to where Johnny works and we're thinking about possibly getting take-out from there next week. What's good and is anything there healthy??

Speaking of food, we're excited about going to the Northshore for those chargrilled oysters tomorrow.....

Kathy, your weight loss is FABULOUS and amazing! Congrats!

Having a decently relaxing weekend-heading to Denham Springs this tomorrow for a birthday party-hope to see my DN4 and new godchild too!

Heading to Columbus the week of the 18th for a mini get away(yay, columbus.....:confused3 ), plus DH wants me to see the place just in case he gets a job offer there-uhh what?! I already know how I feel about things above the Mason Dixon line!!! But I will go wherever we need to go. Our goal is to keep homeschooling and we all know how tight things are with this crazy inflation and gas prices, plus my job is in jeopardy too.

I think we are going to garage sale in October, if not, in November.
I have SO much I was hanging onto in my attic and you know what-it ain't gonna all last to see me grandkids, so before it dry rots, I am gonna have a garage sale!! I am gonna part with more nostalgia(to me) that won't last too much longer up there.
I have 4 boxes of stuffed animals up there that Ashton got over the 3 years she was on chemo. EVERY time she was admitted, they doused her with stuffed animals and blankets(which I will keep b/c most are home-made.) and other lovely stuff donated by some wonderful souls! I am going to donate most(not all) of the stuffed animals to a kids home over here in Mandeville. They are asking for them!

See ya! I have a houseful. 2 extras tonight!

Lori

Hey y'all!

Woo, I'm beat! Me and some of my friends along with an old friend visiting from Dallas had a ladies' night in Mandeville last night, and I'm feeling ROUGH today!! :rotfl: We went to Lucy's and then had daquiris (sp?) and then visited a very pregnant friend while we were out there. I'm not used to so many cocktails and staying out late- I'm suffering today! We had a blast though, it was so worth it!

I love the chicken kabob entree- it comes with hummus, salad, and of course the yummy chicken. :lovestruc I also love their lebanese tea- iced tea with rosewater and pine nuts- so, so good! Their falafel is good too, but not necessarily healthy. ;)

You may like Coumbus. I guess since I have no family left I'd be more willing to move. If I knew that Johnny & I could get jobs, I'd leave in a heartbeat, and not having to worry about hurricanes would be another plus!!

I really am impressed with your weight loss in such a short time.

I just am SO unsure about the snow if we go up north. I hate to freeze.
I don't wanna work outside the home if we do move up there. I am interested in something from home-but who knows what!
I am not worried about it yet. We lived in Dallas for 3 years and we loved it up there, but it was like sitting in a big warm cush chair for the first time in a while when we came home.

A cardiologist I work with was talking the other day about how everyone here either lives really close to a parent and never leaves, or they leave and come back to live close to family. He is from Miami and just doesn't get it! he was saying how crazy that is!

Good morning NOLA! Yesterday marked one month since I started at the gym and dieting and I'm down 16 lbs and 4 inches.

Kathy way to go girl :yay: ....I have taken on maybe 10 of those 16 you have lost.

Kathy - that is terrific! A friend's husband told me years ago that he had a theory "There is only so much fat in the world - when one person loses some - someone else has to gain it".:lmao: :lmao:

I hope that is not true as my sister has lost 94 pounds in the past year! And not with gastric bypass either. But she has been on a medically supervised fast with packets. Although she can eat all the non-starchy vegetables she wants and limited fruit.

It's just a local (University of Arkansas Medical School) program - same one that Mike Huckabee used to lose his 100 pounds. My sister hates it when I call it the Huckabee as she is not a fan of his.

My dad is doing great. I truly cannot believe how much he has bounced back. He has done his laundry twice - all by himself. He makes his own oatmeal every morning. He even went in the kitchen and fried some porkchops - so much for my nice clean kitchen with no grease spatters.

Mary I hope your mother continues to do well. I've thought of her everyday this week. It's a hard surgery, but I've seen so many of my relatives have it and just do great afterwards. They all talk about how much better they feel after it is all over.

My other two patients (my sister and her friend) have gone back to my sister's house. My sister does Mac consulting (helps people with Macs set up ipods, iphones, etc.) She was able to take a job a week after surgery which was good.

Lori

I loved that phrase "big warm cush chair". Years and years ago I had a business trip to Denver. The air was so dry that it hurt to breathe. I was living in Houston at the time - when I got back the minute I got off the plane I loved breathing the "soft air" again.

I lived in Pittsburgh, PA for a year a long time ago. It was one of the worst winters they have ever had. I remember hearing for years how people up North knew how to handle to the snow. Well the blizzards were so bad that at times even the banks closed.

The snow in my boys' pictures is from Little Rock - fortunately the snow only lasted about 6 hours. We usually get snow once a year or maybe everyother year. It's the ice that I hate - used to get that in Dallas when I lived there.

I'm so happy to hear this Tricia, I hope he continues to do well!

That sounds neat!

Well I finally convinced Dh that dancing was the way to go with Kurt jr. He starts next month. His group is great they combine tap, ballet, and tumbling.

I am now teaching 2 classes of cake decorating at Michaels. I love it. I love having a job again and getting out of the house more often. Sept course 1 classes are still open :rolleyes1 Just saying...;)

Almost 3 years later and I thought I was done arguing with stupid people about Katrina. The mommy board I belong to has a debate board, and some idiot posted a rant about how us Katrina "victims" are still holding our hands out(no article to with this rant, just a rant). Then she and others added how we are all welfare receiving, no job having, no insurance having, leeches. After correcting many of their myths, I asked them what they would have done in the same situation, no one answered except with more of the same "you live there you deal with it", "natural disasters happen everywhere" yadda yadda yadda. Why do I even bother!:sad2: :sad1:

WOW girl! That is awesome!

Lorie sounds like you had a lovely night with your friends! Its not always fun the next day is it lol?

All is well here, my inlaws are visiting ... its nice to have them here, I miss them , but hate having extras in the house LOL... someone build me a third bathroom please! ??!!

Jack had Kindergarten testing yesterday.. i cried LMAO, holy moly im not wanting to go with him next Thursday!! Can someone take him for me, so they dont think im the crazy crying Mommy?
I swear those folks are gonna talk about me for the next yr!

OMGoodness!! Thanks gals. I can pm you my address and you can send them to me, or I can set up a time I will be on the southshore, OR I you can send them directly to the source-Methodist Childrens home in Mandeville. They are also asking for unused toiletries(even sample sized and hotel kind)

Let me know what is most convenient-I haven't even gone up there(attic) for them yet!

We had a long wonderful day in Denham Sp. and Baton Rouge. The birthday party was fun, but hot and then we headed to the mall with my DD's and DN6!!! We don't get her as often these days but I am thankful for every moment we DO have her-we headed to Libby Lu with gift cards they had gotten a from last Christmas(all 3 of them) and they had fun picking out some stuff. Went to Dillards for DH to get some dress shirts for very near future interviews and this Columbus trip where he will be meeting with his bosses boss for dinner(to talk shop/job prospects), plus with his previous boss another night.
My flight is booked and the kids are going to my MIL's-gotta board the pups I guess:guilty: .
I wish we were going somewhere MUCH more fun, much more south and a little more east:laughing: .

School has been on the slow side last week and we are revving up again with everyone else. Ironically, my hormones do surge at those times I used to .......well, you know.... and I can feel my moodiness instead of pain(thank God:banana: ), but it affected school this week just a little bit-until i get used to my body's new "ways"...

We are the AG fans!!! We have an AG club of 15+ girls in it. Wonder how Michaels will fare if we all show up!!!!
Thanks for the info!

Lori
