Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Oh Man! I didn't see this earlier! DH is at a meeting! I have to record this now! Did you watch the game last night! Awesome, coming back to win, after being down 7-2!!!

You bet we saw it.......we're up 6-0.......:woohoo: :dance3: :yay:

Ashton LOVES blue runner white beans. She can eat a can for lunch heated up.

Lorie- I agree with the others. When I was training for the Disney marathon(way back in 2002, for the 2003 marathon) for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training(that is a sentence-full!!), I started sooo out of shape and though for sure I'd lose easily. After daily walks for months and some of them LONG- in the end I only lost about 3-5 pounds:mad: . But I fit in things differently and felt good :cool1: when I was in Disney. I wound up backing down to the half-b/c Ashton wound up getting sick and she was still on chemo so we had a 8 day hospital visit. I missed my LONG runs(16 and 18 mile) and was scared of being miserable in WDW, which was NOT an option!

Going alone(for the most part) to WDW was a BLAST!!!

They are! I had my doubts the first time I used them, but I was really pleasantly surprised! Now, they aren't as good as a homemade pot that has been cooking all day, but if you're feeling lazy or are in a rush, they'll do!

Actually I was feeling lazy tonight because I'm just bummed....
For the last two weeks I've been working my butt off (or trying to work this butt off... ) with the Wii Fit and having been doing pilates and walks in the park, and I GAINED two pounds! Not only that, but my body has been feeling so sore in the mornings that I can barely move- I feel like crap! I hope there is some kind of body adjustment period before you actually start losing weight?!

remember muscle weighs more than fat....then your body will burn calories much more efficiently!! Hang in there!! :thumbsup2

ok I was bad...cooked bacon and had BLTs for dinner. but they were SO GOOD!

Sorry I haven't answered the question!

Ok so most of the people will be coming from the Metairie area. I live on the WB, but my mom and most of her friends, and my grandparents live in Metairie.

I am an only child, and while my grandparents and one of my mom's brothers will be helping with some of the cost, this is probably all coming on me!

We were at first thinking of getting Tony Angelo's back room and having a sit down dinner, but my Meme and Uncle Mark think a party room with a bar and music would be a better idea.

I have 3 1/2 months to plan this thing, so I really need to start looking at places!

Thanks guys for the encouragement! I hope you're right (I'm just gaining muscle which weighs more than fat), because I'm afraid I'll get frustruated and just quit! I would be happy with better fitting clothes and feeling better, but a little weight loss would make me happy too. I will say one thing- I've slept so much better after exercising these last two weeks! I normally have insomnia troubles, but I've been sleeping like a log! :thumbsup2

next - what kind of food are you looking for? it will probably be much easier on you to go somewhere (restaurant) than trying to do it yourself...then you can enjoy it also! Cafe East is nice (upstairs though - not sure if they have an elevator...) Don's Seafood used to have a nice room. Steak and Ale has a great room - I think we've had 50 there for banquets, although music might not be good... There is an American Legion hall on Richland (I think it is) off Cleary and Vets that is nice. Country clubs have nice size rooms...Driftwood behind Girard Playground off W. Esplanade has a nice size room - not sure if you have to be a member. Kenner Pavillion on Loyola and Vintage is nice too. You might also look at places like church halls to for rent. The Masonic Lodge on Causeway rents out their hall - it is nice with a kitchen and I know the secretary there (he does my nails). sorry - don't want to overwhelm you. would be happy to give you more ideas if you like!

thanks for your sharing with us. I went in the pool on Friday then got sick on the weekend....want to get back in it but being sick threw my sleep patterns off. I was able to stay awake today after work so hopefully I can get some good sleep tonight!

Actually food is the easiest part! My family used to own a restaurant and we usually self cater our events.

I think you have to be a member for country club rooms.

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

ooh hubby just suggested Lafreniere Park Foundation building (very classy but when they say be out by 12 midnight, be out by 11:55). he said Kenner pavillion is VERY nice. not sure if you want to go that far out.

My family founded and owned Giovanni's Sausage and Poboys. It opened in Kenner in 1989. In 1992 my Uncle Mark opened the Metairie franchise. We owned the two restaurants until my grandparents were ready to retire in 1996, and my aunt and uncle were ready for something different in 1999. If you are not familiar with this place it started out just making sausage. We sold wholesale to Breaux Mart, Tony Angelo's, Vincent's, Piggly Wiggly, Central Grocery, and a few other French Quarter restaurants that I was too young to remember. It was so popular people wanted to buy it! So the retail was opened. We eventually made Italian, HOT, country pork, Crawfish and alligator sausages. They were 96% fat free, and made with only the best ingredients and NO fillers! A year or two later my other uncle suggested we start selling poboys and my Meme's famous meatballs and spaghetti lunch plates.
A year or two after that business was doing so well my uncle Mark decided to branch off to Metairie. Next door to the famous C's pharmacy business there was huge. I can still remember spending my summer making shrimp poboys from 11am til 2pm with no gap in the line out of the door.

But as with everything all good things must end. My grandparents wanted to retire and they needed to take care of my ailing great grandparents. So they sold to brothers who eventually ran the business into the ground. My aunt and uncle were missing their kids growing up and they too sold.

Every 6 months my uncle Mark, my Pops, and my Uncle Mike still get together and make sausage.

Stephanie, If you want to have something on the WB & self-cater or have it catered, there is the Lion's Club on Barataria & an American Legion Hall on Patriot. A really good deal is a small hall in Crown Point, don't know if you want family to go that far, but we've had several showers there & it's nice, clean & cheap!

On the EB, have you checked the prices at Smilie's on Jefferson Hwy? The food is good, but that might be too pricey for a small crowd.

I know I could get the VFW hall(FIL and his dad are both members) so maybe that is an idea too.
