When does he meet the Coach for lunch?
Not sure, he's waiting for him to call....he said last week that it would be early this week?????![]()
Fingers crossed for him. I know the waiting must be driving him crazy.![]()
Did the statue of St. Joseph come in yet?
Welcome back!!!!! Are you going to do a dining review(hint hint)?? I pass that Brothers' station twice a day....![]()
We can't wait for the Insectarium (yes we're dorks)! DH LOVES bugs -there is no bug exterminating or squishing in this house, or pesticides anywhere outside either. All bugs found inside are safely escorted outside.Except for roaches and mosquitoes- those are fair game. We also have two pet tarantulas.
Everyone scared yet?
Sheryl- Oh, a little turtle- how cute! We had a few in our pond, but a big heron came down and ate them!![]()
I'm glad you're feeding it bugs- they like protein as well as vegetation. Most people make the mistake of only feeding them lettuce.
It would only be a problem if she put the turtle in her mouth- I'm sure Miss Alexis is way past that. But turtles under 4 inches (and usually only pet shop turtles) can carry salmonella, so as long as she doesn't put him in her mouth, she's good. (you might want her to wash her hands after handling him, just in case)
TURTLE-uggh-the things you do for your kids.
We kept hand gel next to the huge flat rubbermaid bin he lived in. Just in case.
My good friends son got salmonella from a wild tortoise that her some found after Katrina. He was in the hospital a couple days but faired okay. Lots of fluids.
All in all we do like toroises and they are fun to watch and play with.
Anyway, just be careful and make sure you wash hands after handling.
We had Sputnick(russian tortoise!!!)and Slow Poke(duh!).
That's our turtle story!!!
Good Morning NOLA!
Kendall's cheer practice started yesterday. This will keep us busy through the summer. She came home so excited because all of her practice uniforms came in as well as her shoes.<------ That's her on top. Yes, she's a flyer because she is such a little thing.![]()
Today's the big day for Kelsie. I'm taking her to get her Driver's License. I stopped at the insurance agency yesterday to add her to our policy. Since she doesn't have her own car it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be money wise. It's still a lot just not as bad.![]()

I'd love to do a dining review, but it would pale in comparison to some of those (including yours) I've read (and stolen advice from). At this stage of the game, Disney dining for us is still about fueling the tummy and entertaining the boys rather than the dining "experience". In other words, lots of counter service with a few character meals thrown in. Big surprise for the kids this year was Hoop-de-Do (which they loved - older DS giggled & laughed through the whole show!)
I wasn't able to book Ohana, so I subbed Kona based on reviews I read here. We had great service, and the meal was really good (not sure if that had something to do with the LapuLapu or not..... DS9 raved about the sticky wings, and even asked to go back later in the week! I couldn't convince DH to try Boma or Jiko, but I think he was more worried about transportation logistics than the food. Silly man - I think he forgot we could cab it back if he didn't want to fight buses.
Oh, and have an order of lettuce wraps for me @ PF Changs! We introduced DS9 to those last year - it's the only way I can get the kid to eat lettuce!!!
Oh we had 1st timer mistakes with our tortoise as well. We didn't buy him from anyone- he was found trying to cross Esplanade Ave and someone picked him up and brought him into Whole Foods thinking that one of the granola heads would take him. So of course, we took him home.We have had 2 russian tortoises-one succumbed to a respiratory infection(YES we actually brought it to the vet after tearsfrom Ashton to "save her turtle!"
and I learned to give a turtle fluids to save $30 per visit) and found out the cannot be kept in shavings or newspaper or anything that can give off powdery stuff when moved or ripped. #2 died after Katrina(yes, he came with us when we evacuated in his special container) from not having his ultraviolet light(he was in the window though part of the day) and probably stress. It was en expensive mistake though with the shavings-we dropped $250 in a week on a TURTLE-uggh-the things you do for your kids
.

All in all we do like toroises and they are fun to watch and play with. Our luck with tham hasn't been good but I blame Katrina for the second ones death and not knowing enough for the 1st ones death(even though we'd read a lot). The poor thing started wheezing from the shavings he was bought in. We got him from a reptile show b/c we had read NOT to get them from a pet store.
Anyway, just be careful and make sure you wash hands after handling.

I wow, I hope June is better for you too!I complain a lot too....I try to be positive and I also minimize how bad stuff is (hello we have been through the big K). I feel like "I have a bad day once in a while but sometimes they hit me all at one time"!
The whole month of May has been like that for me. My niece's husband was murdered, a very good Disney friend of ours died of a sudden heart attack, my daughter and her significant other are on the outs, and my granddaughter has been sick. I certainly hope June is better!![]()
Heh, heh, one of the reasons we have a hard time finding a sitter is that we don't have normal pets. We have a cat, two birds, two tarantulas, and one tortoise. The tarantulas aren't a problem though because we give them water and fatten them up before we leave. Otherwise, they just like to be left alone, so the sitter doesn't have to deal with them at all. We may be leaving my cockatiel with his "birth mother" this year (the breeder we got him from) because I'm normally with him all day and I'm afraid he'll get very lonely.I'm surprised the kids' summer camp hasn't added the Insectarium to their list of field trips yet. Maybe I need to suggest it - sounds like a cool trip!
OK, so I gotta ask.......what's the going rate for tarantula-sitting while y'all play in Disney????![]()
I think he may be better off in the canal. The momma turtle probably laid her eggs near your house, and when he hatched he went looking for a water source and mistook your pool for the canal. Little turtles do better in the wild unless they are bred in captivity. And as you can see from Lori and my posts, keeping turtles as pets can be kind of a pain and they often die. And I sure don't want Alexis getting sick! (although, don't worry, she's probably fine)So far all the little guy will eat is still squirming bugs. If he doesn't start eating lettuce or turtle food, we will probably go put him the canal across the street.
Well she is past that stage, BUT.... I hadn't let her touch it at all. We had just gotten out of the pool & I wanted to clean the turtle's bowl before we bathed. She begged to hold it, so I let her while I washed the bowl. I had her put the turtle back in the bowl, while I was getting the filtered water to fill the bowl up. I turn around to see her rubbing her runny nose with her hand!!!Yes I totally freaked out! (This was last Thursday.) I screamed at her to stop, scaring her to death! I immediately stuck her in the tub, scrubbed her down, made her blow her nose like a billion times! I called Chris all upset about it. She wasn't too upset & said we'd just keep a close eye on her & if she got sick we'd take her to the doctor right away. So far she is fine. It really shook me up, because a friend of our's son ( a grown man) was just in ICU so sick they thought they might lose him. At one point they were considering removing his colon! He had been sick & getting sicker really fast, he was in the hospital several days before they realized he had salmonella. When they got him on the right meds he improved quickly. He just got out of the hospital last week. They think he picked it up from a friends baby chicks. So yeah I was scared!
She was so excited about the turtle, that's why I didn't toss him in the canal right away. But he's very afraid & not even much fun to watch. When he sees anyone he hides under his rock. I told her if he didn't start eating other food & get less afraid, we'd have to set him free. She seemed to be okay with it. And I told her I didn't think I'd let her touch him again!
Kathy- Happy Birthday to Kyle!![]()

Now, go hug your mama and tell her thanks for letting you survive to this milestone!![]()
Lorie-good advice about the turtles. I do not remember his symptoms, but don't go worrying. I am SURE diahrea was a symptom, though-lots of it.
We really did enjoy the tortoises and there are LOTS of info out there about them. We fed them veggies and turtle food recommended by a few people that had russians. Our next step was to build a pen for the one that died after Katrina, but he didn't last long enough even to get it built.
Please let me know how the insectarium is. I HATE roaches, not just the normal hate, a loathsome hatred fot those little things. I'd ratherhave snakes in my home than roaches. They scare the heck out of me!! I have a problem, I know. It was lovely when we had cats, they'd just play with them till the thing died.
kmores, we have DD's the same age. I have an 8 year old who will be 9 in October.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLE!!!
Good morning NOLA! Where's lucas been???????
