Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Hope you are feeling better this evening... but not wonder you have a headache... you read all our chitchat yesterday, must have taken you all day lol!

actually that was relaxing and fun! I think either bad hotdogs over weekend or stomach flu...or just bad migraine. but I have been upset since the weekend because I have to go to a hearing on the 18th to fight the stupid OFS regarding them trying to get money back for the food stamps they gave me for Katrina. :furious: (gee that wasn't a run on sentence or anything...) as if I haven't been victimized enough by that - that - woman. GRRR. I made myself sick over it because the appeals paperwork included papers suggesting I intentionally defrauded them (uh BS:scared1: ) and they could charge me criminally. (I used to work in law enforcement so this is especially upsetting me - I am VERY ethical and would never do something like that) I have a friend who is going to look at it and I called the fraud people - they claim "oh no - we aren't filing criminal charges". and yeah I was told these were not based on income....what a bunch of hooey ...and I can't really "complain" to the media or 6 on your side cause I uh WORK for the state. this isn't media eh? ok enough sharing!

ok had to lighten up a bit...this just came in e-mail!

Walking can add minutes to your life.

This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60..Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where the hell he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again. (ain't that the truth!)

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing..

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there. (go figure!)

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them. (and that would be me)

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years,...... just getting over the hill.

You could run this over to your friends but why not just e-mail it to them!

We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads. (oh THAT's it!)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
AND
every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour:cool1: and by the time I leave, I look just fine.

So you want to be a Skinnie Minnie for Mickey!;) :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work!

we found a little green turtle in the swimming pool again last week.

good luck! I need to start walking before Disney too...I just want to be able to walk while I am there...I sit at a desk all day, then expect to be able to walk miles and miles in 8 days...last year I had to rent a scooter...I would rather not. I don't want to be stuck in bed all day either.

I am not sure but be careful with the turtle. not sure if it is an old wives tale but supposedly they can have a bacteria or something that could make her ill??:confused3

ok off to pick up DD from her nana's - and oh - this is so exciting! her nana (family friend who has "adopted": dd as her nana) has her nephew coming over tonight and guess what - he is a CM at DISNEY!!! I can't wait to pick his brain....if I get anything free/any tips I'll share them here!! oooooo oooo ooo!!!

If anyone cares...the WIGGLES will be here on July 27th, tickets go on presale Friday(code WAGS).

We are going, and I am pretty excited!

Sheryl- Oh, a little turtle- how cute! We had a few in our pond, but a big heron came down and ate them! :crazy2: I'm glad you're feeding it bugs- they like protein as well as vegetation. Most people make the mistake of only feeding them lettuce.

It would only be a problem if she put the turtle in her mouth- I'm sure Miss Alexis is way past that. But turtles under 4 inches (and usually only pet shop turtles) can carry salmonella, so as long as she doesn't put him in her mouth, she's good. (you might want her to wash her hands after handling him, just in case)

You know, I could never get Sienna into the Wiggles. Maybe she's too young, or maybe she just has no rhythm. If she takes after DH and I (or has seen us dance), that would be the answer. ;)

Kristina- Glad you are feeling better and good luck on getting tips from the CM! :thumbsup2

Oh man Kurt and Aiden are hooked. I have to keep an episode on tivo all the time. Even Aiden knows the songs and dances. They used to drive me nuts but I have learned to tune them out...:rolleyes1

We have had 2 russian tortoises-one succumbed to a respiratory infection(YES we actually brought it to the vet after tears  from Ashton to "save her turtle!" :scared:and I learned to give a turtle fluids to save $30 per visit) and found out the cannot be kept in shavings or newspaper or anything that can give off powdery stuff when moved or ripped. #2 died after Katrina(yes, he came with us when we evacuated in his special container) from not having his ultraviolet light(he was in the window though part of the day) and probably stress. It was en expensive mistake though with the shavings-we dropped $250 in a week on a TURTLE-uggh-the things you do for your kids:lovestruc .
We kept hand gel next to the huge flat rubbermaid bin he lived in. Just in case.
My good friends son got salmonella from a wild tortoise that her some found after Katrina. He was in the hospital a couple days but faired okay. Lots of fluids.

All in all we do like toroises and they are fun to watch and play with. Our luck with tham hasn't been good but I blame Katrina for the second ones death and not knowing enough for the 1st ones death(even though we'd read a lot). The poor thing started wheezing from the shavings he was bought in. We got him from a reptile show b/c we had read NOT to get them from a pet store.

Anyway, just be careful and make sure you wash hands after handling.
We had Sputnick(russian tortoise!!!)and Slow Poke(duh!).

That's our turtle story!!!

yeah I know what you mean about the expense and the dd....we have 4 birds....dropped more on them for 1 yearly checkup than 2 deductibles for our insurance!! but pets are awesome - just can't feed mine avocado?

ok I am sad...I can't get my ticker to work right...sigh

ok I am sad...I can't get my ticker to work right...sigh
I gave up on mine-sometimes it works , sometimes it doesn't . I see yours but it is getting cut off b/c you need to delete 1 line in your siggy to see the countdown part.

I'm there with you on pets,we spent a LOT of $$ on a cat I had since I was 9 years old. Back in 1997 she got really sick(she was 18) and we spent the money, gave her fluids and lots of meds for her heart-she made it to the ripe old kitty cat age of 22. She died when I was 30!!! I think I hung on to her so much b/c she was there before and after my parents divorce and she was the last thing that I held on to from back then. God,i loved that cat. We cremated her and kept her till we moved into a permanent location to bury her. Here in my backyard. But my new puppy dug up her collar that I had wrapped around the urn. Little sucker.....

I complain a lot too....I try to be positive and I also minimize how bad stuff is (hello we have been through the big K). I feel like "I have a bad day once in a while but sometimes they hit me all at one time"!

The whole month of May has been like that for me. My niece's husband was murdered, a very good Disney friend of ours died of a sudden heart attack, my daughter and her significant other are on the outs, and my granddaughter has been sick. I certainly hope June is better!

Good Morning NOLA!

Kendall's cheer practice started yesterday. This will keep us busy through the summer. She came home so excited because all of her practice uniforms came in as well as her shoes.

<------ That's her on top. Yes, she's a flyer because she is such a little thing.

Today's the big day for Kelsie. I'm taking her to get her Driver's License. I stopped at the insurance agency yesterday to add her to our policy. Since she doesn't have her own car it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be money wise. It's still a lot just not as bad. :rotfl2:

Jan, hugs to you lady. I sure hope June is a better month for you.

I almost forgot, Happy Hump Day!
