Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Hi all, hope everyone has a good Monday!!!

Does anyone know what is going on in N.O. on weekend of March 15th, im trying to book a hotel room and almost everything except crap places are booked! Ive never even had this much trouble booking a place for Mardi Gras!

telling me the Hilton Millenium (where he has stayed 2x) was booked and the ONLY OTHER hotel with availability "and actually cheaper" was the Waldorf Astoria. I looked up at him and I can tell you I was not happy-nope not even happy for HIM, which I would have normally been. Okay so I told him that we were getting the hot water heater fixed before he steps foot in some hoity toity hotel in NYC!! :rotfl:

:lmao: I can just picture the look on your face....seriously I hope this week is better for you.

St. Pat's?? Must be some big convention.

Gosh - it's gorgeous out there. I've been trying to come up with excuses to be outside instead of in my windowless office!

Lori-You sure did have a huge case of post-Disney blues! Not a fun way to get forced back to reality. Hope you had a couple of long, hot baths to soothe those hormones! Oh, and I know exactly what you mean about the green-eyed monster when it comes to the disparity between DH's office perks and mine! Let's see....my perks could be summed up in a couple of words...pay-check. DH, on the other hand, regularly takes clients out for meals, gets to fly to fun cities for "training", and gets to participate in "team building" activities that sound an awful lot like office parties! I'd just as soon not know where the next client shin-dig is happening - ignorance is bliss!

oh it isn't so bad, but it was a definite "something I'll look at and laugh at" week. I told him last night that if he's gonna travel, he better get it all on the same hotels and airlines b/c I am wanting to bring the kids to DisneyLand and that will be our next trip soon as the points and miles are accumulated. I guess it aggravates me too b/c how awesome would these travel places be for my kids? How cool would it be to homeschool them and SHOW them what we are learning about. I wish we could do that. The furthest we have been with him on his travels is Baton Rouge-haha!! Well, Dallas, if you count Katrina evacuation! We have ourselves a good bit of responsibilities here-dogs, helping friends, church, kids activities, JOB.

Cajunmommy... you and I must work for the same company-no windows, no perks, they won't even help with continuing education-just a paycheck. I have been there for 4 years almost(may) and never have gotten a raise. In fact, my pay has been the same for over 7 years now. I ask, they laugh, I go to work. It just fits my life really nice right now, plus being PRN makes that raise thing tough to get. Watching DH do all the traveling-which he claims is not that fun and "wishes we were with him" -ummmm yeah... Not so sure about THAT one!! No, I do believe him, he is REALLY a great hubby/friend. But I say 'whatever' to that!! Our hubbys must work for the same company too!!

Hope everyone is feeling better!

Off to school!

Lori

Ladies- Where is a good place to get my car detailed. We are thinking of trading it in for a minivan, but it is in a desparate need of detailing first....Any suggestions?

finally got a hotel booked for the night of the 15th Courtyard Marroitt in Metarie !!! Far cry from the Bourbon street balcony i was looking foward to spending the evening on!! Not since before Katrina did I have this much trouble getting a room! Oh well I have a list of several hotels im going to call daily and see if I can get something, I cant imagine every hotel in the city being booked, someone has to cancel. I did try all the Hotel.com, orbitz and hotwire, but pretty much all they had left too was total CRAP hotels or Harrah's luxery suite lol.

One person I talked to said there are two big conventions in town that weekend and then of course the St. Patty parades which is what im going for!

Good Morning.

Today I am goint on a field trip with Colin's class to the Young Chef's Academy in Mandeville. I wonder what goodies the kids will make while trying out their culinary skills.

It should be fun and I love going places we've never been before.

Good morning ladies. I hope you all have a great Tuesday. I am at work and I need to get busy. :)

Tricia - That field trip sounds like fun, I've never heard of it!!

It's a fairly new place that's seems to be pretty popular over here. Kids can go there and take cooking classes. I'm quite excited to check it out.

Hey y'all-

Just a quick check-in...

DH has been really sick the past few days but went back to work today, even though he should stay home a couple more days- the flu really wiped him out! And DD also finally succumbed and was really suffering yesterday :sad1: . She still has fever but looks a lot better today, so I think she's finally shaking it. I've been fighting the ick off but have started coughing and feeling worse today, so I may be next!

I hope everyone is doing well and stays healthy!

Not the same company, but part of the problem with mine is it's a 3rd generation family-owned company. They know little or nothing of "real world" benefits because this working environment is all they know. It worked for Dad & Grampa's employees, so it should be fine for our people too. Yea, right! Just like you, part of the reason I've been here for so long is the flexibility I have with the kids. If I need time for a school event, I take it.

DH's co. is just the opposite. They're international, so lots of $$ available for all that corporate "training" and supporting employee morale. And I don't complain too much about the traveling for the same reason as you - we're taking advantage of FF miles to get to Disney this summer!

I was selected to chaperone DS's Kinder class to the BR YCA last year. The kids were able to make individual pizzas and were supposed to make brownies, but the Chef talked too much! The class was pressed for time, but the staff at YCA was sweet enough to send along the finished brownies that afternoon with the 2nd Kinder group from school. It was a good time - he worked in math lessons (fractions) and really stressed hand washing!

Kathy - read on the WFD thread it's been 4 months smoke-free. :woohoo: :yay:  Way to go! Oh, and best wishes to Kyle on the Houston trip!

Hi Grumpy's wife-we have been to TCA 2 or 3 times. Our homeschool group goes once a month. The October goodies were healthy and yumy-pumpkin/chocolate chipmiffins that my kids ask for at home now. Thankfully hey give you thier recipes to use at home. The also had pumpkin soup which they did not like BUT I tried it and it wasn't as bad as i expected!

Cajunmommy- no, I really was being facetious about being the same company, although HCA is in many places. i don' think it is the whole of HCA though-i just really think our facility doesn't put much stock into the dpt. I work in-we are a money making dept and everywhere else i have worked we usually got the things we needed to run smoothly. The education people where i work SWEAR they offer us CEU's for our field and i have gone to them multiple times to see WHERE to find them b/c they are never posted. FINALLY, after some research someone admitted they do not offer CEU's in my field all that often-if any. BUT they still haven't offered anything to appease that-so i work PRN, and need more CEU's than a nurse(whom they provide for) and pay for my own.:headache:  Last year, it took nearly 1/10 of my take home pay. May not sound like a lot, but that is a months worth of pay for me and it HURT. We used to get a $25 visa card for Christmas, but now we get a card with all the big wigs siggys-no thank you. Oh a birthday card too-they used to give movie tickets. I wish they wouldn't waste the stamp and paper b/c it is all so superficial. we DO get a turkey on Thanksgiving, but I usually donate it-although this past year i did not.

sorry again for ramblin'

Lorie-hope your family is better very soon. I am sorry Sienna is sick now!! get those fluids down!!

Anyone here have a Disney VISA? I've been having some issues with my credit card company and was just wondering what the advantages and/or disadvantages of having a Disney card are.:confused3
