Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

:sad1: On a much sadder & upsetting note: The carjacking & murder that happened on Saturday, was less than 1/2 mile from my house. That"s the little grocery store I've mentioned before. If you saw the report on the news, that's A's school & our church right across the street. This has me so upset & disgusted! Makes me wonder whether or not we are making a mistake remodeling & putting money into staying here. Our subdivision is overall pretty good, but all the neighborhoods around us are really going down. The victim lived nearby & unfortunately so did the scum who murdered her.

Oh my Shovan. It really is getting pathetic, isn't it. Very scary.

I'm having a really tough time deciding between POFQ & POR.:guilty: I'm just happy to know we're going back to WDW!!!!

I just found out that F&W festival starts the day after we planned on arriving. While I'd love to partake of all that has to offer I am concerned about the crowd level??? All you F&W vets out there - are the parks more crowded during F&W?

Kurt and I were living and working at WDW during the F&W fest in 2005. While the crowds were thicker in WS, I did not think the rest of the parks were unmanageable. I think yall should go. F&W fest is not to be missed!

This is just so sad. We missed the coverage of this, I had no idea where it was.:sad1:

We were planning on 9/25-9/29, not sure now. While I'd love to do F&W, DH was really looking forward to this being a laid back kinda trip. What events do you recommend, I'd love to do PFTS!

It's funny Kathy, the trip you're planning sounds very much like the last trip we went on in October. We went only five days, only four days in the parks (MK & Epcot only), wanted to stay somewhere different than CBR (which is why we picked POR), no special events, and wanted it to be laid-back. And I only booked one ADR, which was completely different for me as I usually book at least six or seven! And I have to tell you, it totally worked- having such a laid-back trip was so freeing! I'm not saying I won't do super-planned commando trips in the future, but a relaxing different trip is nice once and awhile. You're going to have such a good time!

At least there has been 3 arrests fn connection this murder. I hope all three will be charged with murder & not a lesser crime.

I just spoke with my SIL, a friend of her's went to school with the owner of the truck that killed the lady. This guy was in the truck but not driving. She said he always lived in this area & way back in elementary school his whole family were trouble makers & druggies. So we can't blame this one on an influx from the New Orleans projects, this is one is plain old home-grown trash.

When we first saw the report on the news, DH tried to calm me byisaying they probably weren't from the area. He said " Who would be so stupid to do that in their own neighborhood?" Well clearly they are exactly just that stupid!

SIL also told me she heard that they are also suspected in the recent purse snatchings at the local Wal-Mart.

Why don't you push it back a month!;) ;) We're going 10/26 - 10/31! It's much cooler then! And Bob & I have got to be king & queen of doing laid back Disney!

Will Kyle be going with y'all? I'd have different recommedations if he'll be going. PFTS is great but very expensive. I wouldn't want to pay that price for a non-drinker, even though the food is so amazing, it really is worth the price! The Food & Wine Pairings have been great, especially at only $45. And the free wine seminars & the cooking demos (with free samples) are also great! And then there's all the booths too! Can you tell I really enjoy the Fest! :goodvibes

Well I'm not going to be quite as laid back as you, I'm making ADR's for every night, that's the best part for us!! The parks will be a laid-back version of what we normally do.;)

The resort prices increase on 10/2 (from value to regular) or I'd love to!!!! This trip will be Johnny & I, Kyle will be in college somewhere. So you think PFTS is worth it for us? All the info you can share will be appreciated!:cool1:

Kathy, My laid back trip does not mean the same thing as Lorie's does! By laid back I mean, book every F&W event I can manage & a few good dining events, eat & drink as much as we want, and sleep until it's time for the next dining event!!!!

I wonder if you rented points from someone, if you could get in at the Boardwalk at a good price! It would be worth checking into!

That's right I forgot your boy will be a college man by then!!! Well F&W is really the time for you & Johnny to go! Don't tell our DD, but our 1st trip alone to the F&W FEST was our best trip EVER!!!

On the PFTS, unless the price goes way up this year, it is definitely worth it!!! Also since the crowds around WS are so bad on Saturday evenings, it's great to go there instead of waiting in lines at the booths! Some of the food we have eaten at the PFTS has yet to be surpassed anywhere! The only problem is it's hard to get to try it all & especially hard to taste all of the wine & drinks! And be able to walk out the door! ;) Do you & Johnny like wine? They did have a good bit of beer, but only a few cocktail type drinks.

Gosh, I really wish y'all would go at the same time we're going! We'd have a blast!

I am clueless when it comes to the DVC rental stuff. Lauren did some figuring for me this morning and said the best I could do would be around $200 a night and that's a good bit more than we're wanting to pay. But if I knew what I was doing I would definitely check into it, I'd love to be there with y'all!!!!

I LOVE wine, Johnny likes it, he's more of a beer man.;)

Sheryl - I was looking at the dates and we have to go on a Thurs-Mon trip so we wouldn't be able to hook up for more than a day anyway.:sad1:

Happy Birthday Terry!! :dance3: :bday: :cake:

I need advice, or maybe just to vent. I'm the black sheep on my side of the family. I won't get into all of the dirt or drama, but I haven't seen my family in a few years. They haven't seen Sienna, they just know she exists and have seen pictures of her through my niece whom I do keep in touch with. Part of it has to do with their non-acceptance of my marrying Todd- they don't believe in interracial marriage. Other things have happened after my father and sister's deaths which just prompted me to cut off all ties which I haven't regretted.

So, my second cousin whom I also keep in touch with is hosting a huge family reunion and really wants me to come. There will be a lot of people there, lots of extended family whom I haven't seen in many years and would like to see again. However, the immediate family that I have problems with will all be there and have all started wagging their tongues when they heard I may be going. Now I just don't know what to do- I don't want to revisit the drama, but I feel guilty about not going.... my cousin sent me an email saying she needs a final count and needs to know my answer. Help! Like I said, I don't know what advice anyone can give, but this whole thing has really been bothering me...

Lorie,

That's a very tough decision. But when you said "they're wagging their tongues" my instinct told me - don't go. If there's even a chance there will be a conflict do you really want to be there? Is this reunion here in town? Maybe there could be a way you could get together with the ones you want to see without risking the drama of the immediate family.

Thanks guys!

Lori - I am inclined to say GO! I would not allow them to prevent me from seeing my family! This is your family as well. How is that fair to you! If at all possible I would say hello and then ignore them as much as possible. Kill them with kindness.

Do the other family members feel the same as your immediate family? If so, then I would not go.

Thanks. Yeah, at first I was going to go and just try to ignore the offenders, but then remembered that these aren't "normal" people- they are a bit aggressive and will just walk up and tell me exactly what they're thinking. When I heard they were already gossiping about my going, a red flag went up for me. I don't want to expose Sienna to any possible conflicts. The reunion is in town, but the family I want to see are all coming from out of town and this is on Easter weekend, so it might be difficult to see them at a separate time.

See, I feel that way too! That's why I'm so conflicted. I'm not sure if the others feel the same way...if they do, they've never said anything.

Bottom line; do what your gut tells you. You know these people best. Unfortunately you will not enjoy yourself if you go because they will make it an unpleasant experience for you and your family. if you don't go you will be feeling left out. I am sorry you are going through this.
