Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Thank you all soo much. Yeah thank goodness for insurance. I am paying above it for my rental though. i was thankful I was in a minivan so I got one to rent. I AM SO thankful my kids are okay. My van handled the impact well.
My back has been aching though. I may just have to suck it up and get a massage! I was called in to work at 3am and just got home so my paycheck will be nice- although most of it is going to the deductable. I dozed off during my last study!!! Thankfully it was only a few seconds and no one noticed. I wa working on 3.5 hours of sleep. I guess God knows I have to come upwith the $$$ so He gave me work!!;)

Thank you for the DVC info. That is a great price. So is there a thread for renting out points or is it a PM thing since you cannot sell on the Dis. How did you find someone renting it out??

I am curious for down the line. I'd love to afford DVC but we knew a new car was in our future and that is a car note!! It may be in our more near future but thisis not the car we thought we may be losing.

I don't know much about the damage yet. My radiator hissed at us about a minute after the accident. It is mostly front end-the grill is OFF the car!!

DH made it home from NYC before the snow made flights cancel. I couldn't have been happier to see him. He hadn't slept in 40 hours and I have just been crawling into my shell of embarrassmenrt and shame-so we all went to dinner after I got out of work at 7pm. We went to Copelands and I had a mai tai-I needed a drink! Then I got called in at 3am:mad: . I am going to nap.

Thank you again- i am glad I have you to tell this to, b/c like hell if I tell my family and I am hoping my neighbors don't notice that the van in my driveway is not ours. I can't deal with it right now. i am just praying for the guy in the other car. He had a previous injury and this couldn't have helped at all. Of course I am hoping he is not a sue happy guy, but that is besides the point and another reason for insurance. Again, thank you for your hugs and thoughts and prayers. I really have needed it and felt it. I'll be myself soon-but more careful. I still admit I did not see him coming at all. WHY would I have turned.

ramblin' again-Lori

Hope everyone is feeling better!

Lori - So sorry to hear about your accident, thank God everyone is safe.

Sheryl - Great pics!!!

Just finished up the baseball games, we ended up with 3 wins and 2 losses, which is much better than we thought we'd do!

We played the only undefeated team left in the tournament last night and Kyle pitched a helluva game!!!!:cool1: :cheer2: :woohoo:  We won 8-6 and this team was one of the top ten teams in the COUNTRY!!!!! I am so proud of my boy, before the game when he was in the dugout he texted me and said he said a prayer to his "Papa", my Dad and asked for him to watch over him for this game. After the game he came up to me and I had tears in my eyes and said "Papa took care of you my boy".

We had 4 boys sick yesterday, it's now up to 8 and yep, Kyle is one. Woke up with fever, aches and congestion. The worst part is that I can't take care of him. They are five miles away and have to remain with the coaches until they return to school tomorrow evening. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole team isn't sick by then.:sad2:

Lori

Good Morning NOLA. Just checking in before getting ready for Church.

Kyle ~ Way to go!

We boiled a sack of crawfish yesterday and they were so good. It seems like it's been forever since we've sat in our own backyard with friends and enjoyed these mud bugs. The weather couldn't have been better.

Hey they moved the smilies around again. :scratchin

I everybody!!!:goodvibes
Is this a nice day or what?
Am off from work and I'm catching up with the DIS.

Question to those with DVC, is it worth it?
DH and I got the DVD and we have been talking about it allot.
Do you really save money?
Has anybody here ever used it for Europe vacation?
I know you Nawlins peeps will give me the lowdown.
Thanks.:flower3: :joker:

Hi everyone!

We're home and I'm furiously starting to plan our long Disney weekend. Has anyone here stayed at POFQ or POR? We're thinking maybe one of these, any thoughts from anyone?

Hey y'all!

Lori- So sorry about the accident and thank goodness no one was seriously hurt. It sure does seem like when it rains, it pours. Don't feel bad, it was just that, an accident.

Sheryl- Cool pics!

Poppinsme- Hi!:wave2: I don't know much about DVC either, but I would like to know info as well. DH and I have been mildly discussing it, but we don't really know that much about it. I'm always up for a bargain!

Kathy- Can you take me with you? :flower3: I promise I'll be good!
I've stayed at both POR and POFQ, in fact we stayed at POR our last trip, and I would say I like POR a little better than POFQ. I know you like CBR too, and although I also like CBR a bit better, POR is a close second. It feels very relaxing and really is beautiful. I prefer the mansions over the the alligator bayou rooms, but that's just me. We stayed in Oak Manor last trip overlooking the fountain in the courtyard and it was a great location, close to the bus stop and food court. POFQ is also nice, a bit smaller than the other resorts, but really is a Disney version of the French Quarter. I think POR is just a little more picturesque, JMO. If you have any questions, just let me know! I love talking about WDW!

See I really want to stay there on our next trip(not for another 2 years  ) but DH says we can't stay there because we live here... :upsidedow

Hope everyone has a good week!

Good morning Nola! I had a busy weekend and never had a chance to check in. I hope you all had a great weekend and have a great Monday :)

I'd love to take you!!! This is going to be a short trip, 5 days, but I want to make it an all new experience for us to keep the magic alive. Staying at a new resort and eating at all new places sounds like fun, I'm so undecided. I posted a question on the resorts board about POFQ vs POR, gotta go check it out. Thanks for the input Lorie!!

Believe it or not, we always felt the same way. Why would we want to go on vacation and stay somewhere that looks like home. But we just want something totally new and different this time.;)

As far as the two resorts looking like home, I would say that POFQ looks like and reminds me more of home than POR. POR reminds me of going to plantation country and POFQ reminds me more of the French Quarter (a very clean, sterile, Disney version of the FQ :rotfl: ) if this helps. I think because DH and I love going on plantation tours is the reason we like POR so much more. POR is more woodsy, POFQ is more city-fied.

Morning everyone!

We also stayed @ the POR...we stayed there on our 1st visit. Loved smelling the magnolia trees!

We did however leave with numerous bites on our bodies which I now believe were bed bugs....I have not stayed there since.

I'm having a really tough time deciding between POFQ & POR.:guilty: I'm just happy to know we're going back to WDW!!!!

I just found out that F&W festival starts the day after we planned on arriving. While I'd love to partake of all that has to offer I am concerned about the crowd level??? All you F&W vets out there - are the parks more crowded during F&W?

World Showcase is a bit more crowded during F&W fest, but overall I don't think it makes that much of a difference normally. However, if there is free dining during that time, it will definitely be more crowded. We went in 2005 when F&W fest first started and free dining was still going on, and it was quite crowded. It was annoying because we constantly had to stand on the buses and I was pregnant and not one time during the whole trip did someone offer me their seat. Not that I expected it of course, but it still would've been a nice gesture. Anyways, I don't think they offer free dining anymore during F&W fest, so you may not have to even worry about that. Don't worry, you'll have a blast! And my vote goes to POR. ;) I forgot to add that the updated food court in POR has the make-your-own pasta bar, which we really liked.

Morning Y'all,

Glad to hear everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend. We didn't do much, I just started feeling better on Saturday.

Whew, all the DVC buying & rental questions!

Lori, On renting, here on the DIS in the DVC section, people list points for rent. You then correspond with them by pm or e-mail. We done that once for ourselves & just completed the purchase of more (for my SIL) on Friday. For those two, it's worked out great & saved big money. Just make sure you either get on a conference call with the renter & DVC to confirm the reservations are made in your name before paying them. And pay thru paypal. Even better is if they will wait for payment until after you receive written confirmation from DVC.

On buying DVC, we purchased resale from the Timeshare Store. We found them here on the DIS. Then DH did a ton of research on DVC purchasing directly from Disney & buying resale. In checking out the Timeshare Store he called FL BBB & FL Attorney General's Dept. before even considering them. When you purchase directly from Disney you can only buy at the current properties (right now that SSR & AKV). We decided we really wanted to own at the BC, so we went with resale. Right now Disney is offering some great incentives to purchase at SSR ( discounts & extras). Here is a link to the TimeShare Store http://www.dvc-resales.com/ They have lots of info on purchasing DVC on there.

For us it has saved us a TON of money! So my opinion is yes it's definitely worth it!

Kathy, When are you going? The weekends during F&W are extremely busy, the 1st weekend even more so. But the F&W booths & events are so great it's worth braving the crowds. We decided to go during the week this year to avoid some of the crowds, which means we won't be able to do the Party for the Senses, but there are a lot of other events available during the week.

On the POR, my SIL Chris stayed there last time at POR, FQ I think. (I'll check with her in a bit) & they loved it!

:sad1: On a much sadder & upsetting note: The carjacking & murder that happened on Saturday, was less than 1/2 mile from my house. That"s the little grocery store I've mentioned before. If you saw the report on the news, that's A's school & our church right across the street. This has me so upset & disgusted! Makes me wonder whether or not we are making a mistake remodeling & putting money into staying here. Our subdivision is overall pretty good, but all the neighborhoods around us are really going down. The victim lived nearby & unfortunately so did the scum who murdered her.

Shovan, that's our Church too! We are going to send the boys there...maybe even this year if Kurt gets potty trained! I was so sad to hear about that murder.:guilty:
