Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Rie's mom - loved the suggestion for Confederate Jasmine on the fence! It's one of those plants that just sort of hangs out in the background, then POW, erupts into a gorgeous springtime bloom-fest! I also think it's a better vine than ivy because it's not as invasive, plus it has pretty flowers.:goodvibes

Craving crawfish too, but not at these prices! It needs to warm up just enough to wake up those mudbugs.

Thanks!

You would know Tim decided to repair the crawfish pond this year, so if we want boiled crawdads, we have to buy them. On Good Friday, my family is coming over-19 people- we'll have boiled crabs and I'm having my housekeeper make crawfish stew and potato salad. This way we can satisfy our crawfish envie and not spend a bazillion dollars.

Mornin' y'all!

I'm not sure how Sienna's testing went- we'll get the results next week. The dr said she would test her 1 to 1 1/2 hours, and she was in there the whole time (1 1/2 hours). I hope that is a good sign!

Sienna haha of the day (not really haha, but kind of humorous): "Daddy has to go to work so he can buy me a chocolate cake for my birthday" (her birthday is tomorrow). If only life were that simple, huh? I would love just to work for cake- not the bills, mortgage, food, possible tuition, etc.

TGIF ladies.

I don't have anything planned for this weekend other than to rest a whole lot! ;)

I'm ready to buy some color for my yard too but I'm scared we will have another cold snap. I think I'll wait another 2 weeks.

Strawberries...yum!

My grandma used to say wait until tax day to plant.

Hey y'all,

We are going to redo the whole pool. Bob & I are literally making ourselves crazy trying to decide on decking, coping & tile! We've been up way too late everynight just scouring the net & the books. We're gonna go with a stamped concrete deck ( like our front driveway) but that's where the problem comes in, the choices are limitless! I want a french quarter look, either brick or slate. There are so many color choices in that, my mind is fried.

Sounds like it will be gorgeous! You're making me think about redoing our deck area. It would have to wait until next year though. Between Rie's school, the camp, not to mention Uncle Sam wanting his money, I don't have extra $$$$ for that this year. You'll have to keep us updated with pictures.

Serena - a Happy belated birthday to Aly! I remember the countdown days to summer. Seems this time of year always got crazy with year end activities.

Lorie - glad to hear the testing went well. Happy Birthday to little Ms Sienna. And yea, wouldn't it be great to work only for cake! :rotfl:

Morning y'all,

Laurie, I'm sorry about pup's eyes! How old is she?

Then A's Mom & I have a meeting with A's teacher.

Sheryl - she's 8 yrs old and doing pretty good except for the eyes. I hope everything went well with A's teacher.
Sounds like a handful with the pool re-do. I'm sure it will be well worth it in the end!!

:scared1: The last time I got my hair cut was in August! And the time before that was in February!

No....it was September 13th that I last got my hair cut. Guess it's about time....:rolleyes1

It's been since October for me, and its time to get it cut; its very thick and heavy and I'm starting to get headaches.

Yes, $200/month:scared1:. At one time I let it get completely gray. When Rie got to 5th grade, she said I looked like her grandmother, so I started dyeing it again. Funny when I look at pics with my gray hair- Rie was 100% correct. OMG, I can't believe I ever did that. When I'm 90, instead of blue hair, you can bet the bank, I'm going to be the little old lady with dark brown hair. You know the ones you see that look like really old hookers?:rotfl:

:lmao:
I haven't started coloring. Yet. But I'm really starting to think about it with all the gray thats showing up.

North Shore gang - what's the report on strawberries so far?? This week was the 1st time I saw ads for LA berries, so I'm hoping the crop is finally starting to come in. I'm craving fresh berries.

Craving crawfish too, but not at these prices! It needs to warm up just enough to wake up those mudbugs.

The prices are still a bit high, but I'm starting to see the roadside vendors. We're going to the farmers market tomorrow; I'll let ya'll know the results.

I'm dying for crawfish too. Might pick up a few pounds at Rouse's this weekend.

Kat, Don't be envious, I might just make you come over here & help me pick out this stuff! There is also a LOT of other stuff around here that needs doing! The garage driveway is in seriously bad shape. We've been planning on pulling up the carpet in the den & in 2 of the bedrooms for ages. My den walls are still painted wallpaper over paneling, yuck!

Julie, Our pool is about 29-30 years old! We've had it replastered once but the deck is the same. It's a "cool-deck" that is falling apart. I have always disliked the cantilevered deck, it juts out over the water, it's rough, tears up bathing suits & is a perfect place for dirt, bugs to stick too. Yuck, we do need to do this, just didn't expect to have to do it all at one time.

Lorie, Sienna is turning 4 tomorrow?? No way not already! :sad1:

Sheryl, I gave some of my not soo designer IMHO's on your pool redo pics on FB!:confused3;)

Lauri- get me some while you're at it:rotfl:

Lorie- I am glad it seemed to have gone well-Happy Birthday to your baby girl!!!!:cutie: How's Erik and his teeth?

Kathy- have a nice dinner!

I went to Casting and they turned me away:rolleyes:- you can ONLY apply online and IF they email you back, do you go there for an interview. HOWEVER, being this Disney fan, like you, I enjoyed seeing the murals in the building I have read about. Wish I had my camera! Soo, no email as of yet, but i am going to revise the availability- I really restricted myself. Paul says just get your foot in then then we'll figure out the rest, "if that is what I want".:cutie:

Anyway- The family seems to be doing well with this move. Paul is just bending over backwards for me to be happier. Poor guy. I do not complain to him, but he can see it anyway. I HAVE been pretty down and stressed.
We thought we had $$ coming from Uncle Sam to be used for house stuff and Disney passes, but even with the tax credit, we may not be getting what we thought(if anything) and things have the potential to be tighter than planned. The money given for the move (by the bank) has been figured into our income and it messes a LOT up. It's all pretty confusing as the contract says they'd (bank) pay the taxes on the money. So we thought all was well- but we never imagined it would be considered income- even though it went to pay the loss on our sale of the home in Covington, and the down payment/closing costs for this home.

TMI, probably, but hopefully resolved soon. he already went to HRBlock- he usually does it himslef, but with the sale of the house and the move, etc, etc.......he was afraid too.

Now I wanna get that Disney seasonal job even more! It is hard to be so close, yet so FAR from getting those passes-BUT some is to blame on the fact that I couldn't find either of our birth certs and now we have to wait even longer before getting our Fla. DL's anyway-bummer!

Lori

Thanks for your opinion, even if you do agree with Bob!

Hoping you get that email from casting!

Lori, The bank 1099'd Paul on the money to cover the move! That stinks!

Lori - I'm glad the testing went ok. Did Sienna say anything about the test? What are you doing for her big day?
Nope she didn't say anything at all about the test. She was more worried about picking up Erik from Grammy's- she was very worried about him! For her birthday, we're just having some family and friends over for cake and ice cream. Nothing fancy, very low-key. She is getting a souped-up red tricycle complete with bell and streamers (she's not ready for a real bike yet and her first tricycle is way too small now) along with some other small things for her birthday. And of course, sushi for dinner (her choice) and her chocolate cake!

I hope you have a restful weekend!

My grandma used to say wait until tax day to plant.
Sounds like good advice! Too bad I'm too impatient...:rotfl: I'm taking my chances and have planted some new things already!

Lorie, Sienna is turning 4 tomorrow?? No way not already! :sad1:

I know, I can't believe it! Can you believe that when I first started posting here she was 2 months old?

Lorie- I am glad it seemed to have gone well-Happy Birthday to your baby girl!!!!:cutie: How's Erik and his teeth?

I was hoping that we would have a break with the teething, but I see definitely one more, maybe two, coming again! So by next week he will have eight teeth! I'm hoping after this we will hopefully have a break in the teething department for our trip- a teething baby on vacation is bad news! Good luck with the casting! Sorry about the tax issues- we had a surprise like that once when Todd sold some stock (we thought it had already been taxed- it hadn't!).

Kathy- Enjoy your dinner with Kyle!

I'm so excited about our trip! Sienna will be tall enough to go on most rides this time, so Todd and I have been fighting over who will get to take her on what first! :rotfl: I already called Soarin', Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Splash Mountain...and maybe Test Track too...;) I just watched Soarin' on youtube with her and started tearing up:sad1: That ride gets me every time! It will be even worse when I take her for the first time! :lovestruc

Lori - I have a feeling we'll be paying IRS for the first time this year due to the sale of M&D's house. My friend who does my taxes will let me know this weekend.

Lorie - I can't believe Sienna is turning four! Can't wait to see pics of her with her souped up new ride!:thumbsup2

Taxes suck:laughing:-unless you're getting money back! I guess I should be thankful the tax break for the house is covering it all- if it is not wrong! Cuz then we'd probably owe.

We are heading to FW for movie night- we're gonna see "Bolt" and have s'mores! Going with some new friends.

I feel bad about it b/c DH ins't coming-he's swallowed in work from his job and then hte house, which i told him I'd help him with if he comes along, but he won't. Did I mention he is stubborn too?:lovestruc He just told me to go have fun- he needs me to smile more often.............:guilty::rolleyes:

Lorie- wow- he's got a mouth full already!

Lori

Sheryl, I love the beautiful pictures of the pools on facebook.

Kat, have a great time tonight with Kyle.

Serena, my two kids have kinda "checked out" for the school year too.

Lorie, Sienna is gonna think she's hot stuff on her new red tricycle.:thumbsup2

Sunday is my Erica's birthday. She is so excited that her birthday falls on a Sunday this year, so she planned her birthday weekend. We are going to have family over Sunday to celebrate her 16th birthday. Tomorrow night I told her we could invite some of her friends to see "alice in wonderland". She wanted to kick off her birthday weekend and go to the DMV to get her permit. She was so pumped up. We went to DMV, waited 3 hours and finally she takes the test. I was in the waiting area when she came out and told me she failed the test. You could get 8 wrong and still pass and she got 9 wrong. I felt so bad for her. She didn't cry or anything, but I know she is upset. I told her this happens a lot and a good number of people have to re-take the test. Luckily my parents called and asked if we wanted to meet them at Bozo's for lunch. That brightened her up.

I can't believe my " baby" is going to be 16 years old!!!

Ladies do any of you go to Destin during the summer? If so, can you please tell me where you stay or recommend a place for me?

We stayed at the Emerald Grande at harbor Walk. There were some wonderful deals. It's a gorgeous place! There's a Commanders and a Camellia Grill right there. It's a condo development. Here's the website:

Click on the virtual tours to see the units. Although they don't count the bunk room as a bedroom, it's really a very nice size.

Awe, Lori. That stinks about your taxes. I hope that they are able to find every possible deduction.

Happy Birthday Sienna! Wow, four already!

Sheryl, enjoy making the choices. I am sure whatever you go with with look great.

I am determined not to dye my hair ever, but with the new gray hairs showing up I am getting tempting.

I can't believe that we only have one more week of school until spring break. I really need spring break this year. I am so tired lately.

Terry- we have always stayed at Sandpiper Cove. It is 2 stories. We used to go there 2x a year and then once a year ever since I was 16. I like it b/c it is very Destin-y, but I guess that is a silly way to describe it:). I have a number for a lady that we used her unit and it is across the street(low traffic area b/c it is on a peninsula-(Holiday Isle) with a direct view of the sand and beach. There is one of those buttons for the light to change for you to cross. If you want her number just email, FB or text me. She does everything the old fashoined way, which is why we like her! You mail her a check, she mails you the keys. It is a 1 bedroom unit- has a queen bed in the bedroom and a set of bunks in a nook across from the bathroom. It has a full kitchen and balcony- the only thing it lacks is a washer/dryer- but there are those on the grounds. There are 2 pools/hot tubs on the grounds. We went in the spring 2009 and she charged $100 per night. We found her unit on VRBO and would use her again in the future. I am not sure how much she is in summer, but it is cheaper than Sandpiper Coves website rental rates.

Lori

Mary, Please wish Erica a Happy Sweet 16 from us! I hope she has a wonderful weekend! I know she must be upset about the driving test. ( Don't tell her that you might be just a little happy she won't be driving right away!;)) I sure do like the weekend she has planned!

Lorie, I hope Sienna has a great birthday!

Good morning:)

Lorie, Happy Birthday to Sienna!! I do remember when we first started this thread. She was so little and cute, now she is a beautiful little girl:thumbsup2

Julie, thanks--I am going to show her the sweet 16 birthday wishes when she wakes up:goodvibes

Sheryl, yes, I have to admit--I'm not crazy about her being on the road. I felt bad for her. Things like testing come so easily for David, she is a harder worker than him though. I just hope she doesn't feel stupid. We are probably going to go back to the DMV within the next 2 weeks.

Cara, I tried to resist hair color for the longest, but the grays won out:rotfl:

Serena, I have to agree with Julie--I love the whole Emerald Grand area. Its so pretty and festive there. I also love the Silver Shells, which is where we usually stay. Its the kind of resort where you can rent a beach chair with an umbrella, sit on the beach all day and order food and drinks. The water in Destin is the prettiest in the world!!!

Ladies thank you for the suggestions for Destin....I will definately check them out.

HAPPY BDay Ms Sienna!!!! I hope she's enjoying her day. :)

Happy 16th to Ms Ericka as well....wow!!

Kathy I hope you're enjoying your time with Kyle.
