Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Hey y'all!

Aww, don't fuss at me for going 'coon hunting! My turtle was in peril- I needed to take action!:rotfl:

Kathy- I'm so sorry that Kyle didn't make the team. You tell Kyle that we are so proud of him!

Mary- Welcome back! Sounds like y'all had a great time. I'm loving your pics on FB!

Kristina- Sorry the refi is still puttering along- ours took *forever*, so I can sympathize. I hope the Disney trip works out!

Cara- I'm definitely staying away from the water! ;) I feel like have more than I can handle with the two that I've got, and I am DONE!!

Lori- We love the new Wii Sports resort, but most of all, the HIGHLY addictive Animal Crossing! :worship: Great for both the big and little kids! ;) A cheaper alternative to Wii TSM might be Wii Carnival Games.

Hi!

I know, I know, my location says Texas and I can feel the evil stares. But, I am from NOLA (when I was born we lived in Gentilly and then we moved to Kenner when I was about 4). I twice graduated from LSU (once wasn't enough) and moved to Texas (a second S was about to slip in there again) because after I graduated the second time that's where my job was. Hoping to come back home sometime in the not too distant future, but we'll see how that goes.
:welcome:
No evil stares- we welcome all! I grew up in Gentilly too and now live in Mid-City.

...
Sunday my sister (I have two) called to say her bloodwork shows she is pregnant. My other sister (who is also pregnant) then calls to tell me my cousin also found out (Sunday) she is pregnant. I am guessing that the water is currently NOT safe to drink if you are not well protected...

Then tonight, my very pregnant sister (well, she is due in Nov and as opposed to just pregnant sister?:headache:) called to say that she is having the same complication as I had with my first two. So please send good thoughts her way as she is worried. We will know more on Thursday, but it appears she doesn't have high enough fluid levels and may need to go on bedrest and a possible induction. (Part of me want to :cheer2: since that would mean I would get to meet little Nate when we are in town, but the intelligent part hopes that all progresses naturally)

And lastly, last week we had to tell the older boys the truth behind :santa:. Broke my heart to do it, and I am sure this Christmas will be very different, but it was time. Since the two are so close in age we decided to tell them together. I couldn't figure out why they (at least the oldest one) hadn't caught on yet, especially since I was sloppy last year, but Fletcher told me with a very straight face... "because mom, you are a very convincing liar" :headache: They actually bought that I supplied Santa with the wrapping paper:confused3

I hope all goes well for your sister.

Christmas is never the same once the kids figure out the secret.

Welcome!! I am actually moving to Texas(or back to Texas) by end of year. We are just waiting for our home to sell. Showing it a lot lately but no bites. We are moving to the Houston area. Where are you at?
I am a lifelong NOLA gal who lived in Plano for 3 years in the mid 90's. But we came home. Very happily!! Had 2 girls(1 in Plano), built a little home and here we still are-till hubby was one of the lucky laid off people but then was rem-employed and their moving us to Texas!

No matter where I am, these gals will always be on my heart and I will always harass them:rotfl: on these boards!

What bothers me even more about the move is moving further from our 2 favorite vacation destinations: WDW and Destin. I feel like we are saying goodbye to them too. At least for a little while longer than our usual.

Lori - There's been a thread floating around regarding TSM - Wii. See if you can find it. It seems it's getting mediocre reviews (complaints about it being too simple). Now, this wouldn't be a problem for my kids because their mean momma restricts their Wii time.

Their current Wii fascinations are Mario Kart, Lego Batman, anything Guitar Hero, and the new Wii Sports Resort. They've played WSR at a friends' home and are asking for their own copy.

Christmas will be very different in our house, too. Oldest DS walked in on the Easter Bunny (:rolleyes1 :headache:), and quickly put 2+2 together. I've had to stop him a couple of times from mentioning something to DS#2, but I know it'll only be a matter of time before he figures it out as well.

Kathy - Aw, man, he was sooooo close! If he can take a step back and look at what he just achieved (1 person away from walking on to a Nat'l Championship program!!!) he has absolutely no reason to hang his head. You & DH should be proud. Now - tell him to have fun on that journey to find that open window!

I am sorry about all the kids learning our secrets. Haley knows too and this is her 1st year going through Christmas and knowing.

Thank you for the Wii game advice. We have played Wii Sports resort at a friends. The Wii I purchased came with some sports game- but I suppose that is not the same? I think TSM sounds fun-at least for us Disney fans. I mean are those other people that are reviewing it from a generic game standpoint?

Happy Hump Day gang.

Welcome :) We are a wild bunch. :lmao:

I think I will rent TSM from blockbusters before I buy it for Aly....I can't afford to buy another $50 game that will sit in the drawer. :rolleyes1

It really does take getting used to when the kids don't believe anymore....its fun seeing them open presents but it seems the magic is gone. :sad1:

I didn't know you could RENT games!!!!
(once again, we are game illiterate as we have never had one. My kids have a DS and that's it!) What a great way to try it out before buying!

Ok, we will have to rent a few after Christmas. Maybe Blockbuster gift cards are a must in thier stocking! Only bad thing is if you need a fancy control or somthing. I am finding you need different controls for different games. I saw light sabers for the Wii and blasters from Star Wars-now THAT is COOL!

Thank you!

I have enoug trying to keep up with this board and my current TR, maybe when i am done my TR I will hunt for the Wii threads.

Lori

Hey Y'all,

Is it a beauuuutiful day or what?!

Welcome Scott!! Now would we ever give evil stares to an LSU Grad? (my DD & SonIL are LSU alums) No way! and I peeked at your Tweet TR! Anyone who posts pics of their family with Mike is definitely in!! I go read the rest when I have time! Your DD is a cutie!

Lauri, You can get the Bunratty Meade at Martin Wine Cellar! ;)

Lorie, Has that coon come back? What can you do to protect the turtle & fish from the nighttime raider?

Kat, Have you spoken to Kyle today? How's he doing? I know he is probably sad, but this will allow him to focus on school.

Sheryl, thank you for that valuable piece of information. I might go get a bottle this week to keep in my bar:thumbsup2

Scott, welcome:flower3:

Cara, I will definitely keep your sister and her little one in my prayers.

Lori & Serena, we have Xbox over here, so I can't give any wii advice.

Lorie, I have seen people put screen on top of their ponds to keep animals out. Poor Tortimer, he must have been terrified.

Hi everyone! (I posted on the NOLA board a while back, but we were finally JUST able to move back to NOLA. -It's the 1st time that we've been able to move back since evacuating for Katrina.- And, we are SO happy to be home!) I just saw on the 1st page that you're getting together on Saturday. When/where will everyone meet? I'd love to join & put some faces with DISboard names. Plus, we should be finished unloading our POD Friday night, so I won't feel bad deserting DH while moving. I also found this (click here to open link)& wanted to share. It looks like Disney will have an art exhibit at NOMA from Nov - March. I always get sucked into the animation area at DHS, so this is a "definite" for me & I'm hoping that I can convince DH to come too by promising a trip afterwards to Liuzza's.

Awesome! I should be in for Christmas, so I'm going to put that on the list of things to do.

Well hello stranger, welcome back!!!!!!! I need to update the first page, lunch is going to have to be re-scheduled, too many of our peeps couldn't make it. However, there are quite a few of us planning on going to the Gretna heritage festival, think you could make that?????:goodvibes

I just got an email telling me I need to write a letter of resignation to the NYC Department of Education. :lmao: I DID that already....three times actually....but now I have to do it again because they didn't like the way it was worded.

I had filled out a form that asked if we were returning and selected NO, then I typed a letter for the school because the form wasn't good enough, then I filled out ANOTHER form for HR that had it on there, and now I need to write ANOTHER letter. :confused3

They owe me money though that I can't get until I re-write it to their liking. They also owe me money for a grant (possibly) but I haven't heard about that either. The only good thing about the email is that I wanted to email the person that emailed ME (wondering where said money is) but I didn't have her email address. :rotfl2:

I just have to add this:
12 months ago on this date (9/30/08) I booked the plane tickets for my FIRST trip to New Orleans.
3 months ago on this date (6/30/09) I moved here!

When I first started reading this I wondered what they would do if you didn't write yet another letter of resignation. But I see they owe you money, so, yea, I guess you should do it. I could think of a few choice words to use, but I doubt they would be any more acceptable than what you have already written ;):lmao:

:rotfl2::lmao:

It's vaguely reminiscent of last fall when I was told to write a daily schedule for my class. The school tells you what time lunch is and what times you have prep. Otherwise, it's supposedly up to you to fill in the rest as long as you get all the subjects in and for the correct length of time.

So, I fill it out and turn it in. End of story, right? WRONG. I get it back with a note about how the principal wanted certain subjects in the morning. Okay, fine...why didn't they tell us this in the beginning? So I revise it and turn it in. I get it back with another not saying something similar. I turn in revision 3....I get it back with a note. At this point I'm scratching my head. They had a specific schedule in mind for us, yet instead of just telling us what to do when, they make us play this guessing game. I think about the 5th time I turned it in I got it right. :headache: :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

It was like some real-life version of that game Mastermind that had the colored pegs that you had to guess what colors and in what order they were in. :lmao:
